Effectively balancing the losses from mobility restrictions and hospital capacity strain has drawn significant attention in the aftermath of COVID-19. Reinforcement learning (RL)-based strategies for human mobility management have recently advanced in addressing the dynamic evolution of cities and epidemics; however, they still face challenges in achieving coordinated control at the township level and adapting to cities of varying scales. To address the above issues, we propose a multi-agent RL approach that achieves Pareto optimality in managing hospital capacity and human mobility (H2-MARL), applicable across cities of different population scales. We first develop a township-level infection model with online-updatable parameters to simulate disease transmission and construct a city-wide dynamic spatiotemporal epidemic simulator. On this basis, H2-MARL is designed to treat each division as an agent, with a trade-off dual-objective reward function formulated and an experience replay buffer enriched with expert knowledge built. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we construct a township-level human mobility dataset containing over one billion records from four representative cities of varying scales. Extensive experiments demonstrate that H2-MARL has the optimal dual-objective trade-off capability, which can simultaneously minimize hospital capacity strain and human mobility restriction loss. Meanwhile, the applicability of the proposed model to epidemic control in cities of varying scales is verified, which showcases its feasibility and versatility in practical applications.

Although the genetic algorithm has been widely used in the polarity optimization of mixed polarity Reed- Muller （MPRM） logic circuits, few studies have taken into account the polarity conversion sequence. In order to im- prove the efficiency of polarity optimization of MPRM logic circuits, we propose an efficient and fast polarity optimiza- tion approach （FPOA） considering the polarity conversion se- quence. The main idea behind the FPOA is that, firstly, the best polarity conversion sequence of the polarity set wait- ing for evaluation is obtained by using the proposed hybrid genetic algorithm （HGA）; secondly, each of polarity in the polarity set is converted according to the best polarity con- version sequence obtained by HGA. Our proposed FPOA is implemented in C and a comparative analysis has been pre- sented for MCNC benchmark circuits. The experimental re- suits show that for the circuits with more variables, the FPOA is highly effective in improving the efficiency of polarity op- timization of MPRM logic circuits compared with the tradi- tional polarity optimization approach which neglects the po- larity conversion sequence and the improved polarity opti- mization approach with heuristic technique.

Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

A Power and Area Optimization Approach of Mixed Polarity Reed-Muller Expression for Incompletely Specified Boolean Functions

The power and area optimization of Reed-Muller （RM） circuits has been widely concerned. However, almost none of the exiting power and area optimization approaches can obtain all the Pareto optimal solutions of the original problem and are efficient enough. Moreover, they have not considered the don＇t care terms, which makes the circuit performance unable to be further optimized. In this paper, we propose a power and area optimization approach of mixed polarity RM expression （MPRM） for incompletely specified Boolean functions based on Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II （NSGA-II）. Firstly, the incompletely specified Boolean function is transformed into zero polarity incompletely specified MPRM （ISMPRM） by using a novel ISMPRM acquisition algorithm. Secondly, the polarity and allocation of don＇t care terms of ISMPRM is encoded as chromosome. Lastly, the Pareto optimal solutions are obtained by using NSGA-II, in which MPRM corresponding to the given chromosome is obtained by using a chromosome conversion algorithm. The results on incompletely specified Boolean functions and MCNC benchmark circuits show that a significant power and area improvement can be made compared with the existing power and area optimization approaches of RM circuits.

DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) service is becoming a cheap new media with good performance. Since 2008 Beijing Olympic Game DAB traffic information broadcasting has being severed at Beijing Radio Station by 1039 channel. Under the framework of project Metrasys (Mega Region Transport System for China) which is funded by the Ministry of German Education and research, a TPEG based DAB traffic information broadcasting system is built at the city of Hefei by Germany-Sino experts at the beginning of 2010. In the first section of the paper the background of DAB technology was introduced, then the system diagram and its configuration was mentioned in the second section. The unique feature of Hefei DAB system was to adopt the international TPEG standard, in the third section eight classes of traffic information was defined by TPEG. In the fourth section the structure of OBU (On Board Unit) was described briefly. Section described DAB broadcast program flow at Anhui Radio Station and its performance, and finally a conclusion was given.

Component-based software engineering has been continuously improved and successfully applied over the past years. Future systems, like ultra-large scale systems, are a vast array of decentralized, distributed, autonomic, heterogeneous, organically grown and continually evolving subsystems respectively components. Components may join or leave these systems during the life cycle of these systems, even at runtime. Despite this enormous complexity, we depend more and more on these dynamic adaptive systems. Hence we have to care about dependability although the systems are evolving at runtime. To achieve dependable dynamic adaptive systems which support hot plug and binding of components during runtime we claim to integrate specific concepts, like runtime testing, into the component infrastructure. In this paper we will show that existing approaches cannot guarantee the correctness of component bindings in dynamic adaptive systems. Therefore we introduce a technique for runtime testing and show how it can be integrated into a component-based approach.

Complex real world systems are currently developing to become a decisive instrument for IT-supported problem solving of a great number of problems posed by science, economy and society. By this, we for the first time face the chance of being able to find new solutions, visions, and strategies for sustainable development on the basis of complex, real world simulations. M3-Simulations is a simulation approach that actively involves man in a simulated world based on scientifically-founded simulation models driven by current data of measurement. This new kind of simulation concept combines reality-based modeling of scientific simulation systems with the intuitive graphic representation, complex communication and interaction structures of virtual worlds in order to support the process of investigation into the possibilities of sustainable development.

We present a method for the analysis of non-stationary time series from dynamical systems that switch between multiple operating modes. In contrast to other approaches, our method processes the data incrementally and without any training of internal parameters. It straightaway performs an unsupervised segmentation and classification of the data on-the-fly. In many cases it even allows to process incoming data in real-time. The main idea of the approach is to track and segment changes of the probability density of the data in a sliding window on the incoming data stream. An application to a switching dynamical system demonstrates the potential usefulness of the algorithm in a broad range of applications.
