The urgency of gender-responsive development planning in the implementation of village legislation is needed to facilitate the results of development that can be carried out by both men and women. This research aims to determine the efforts to increase gender mainstreaming in village development planning for the implementation of Number 6 the Year 2014 concerning Villages. This research was an evaluative descriptive study conducted in Uluere District, Bantaeng Regency. The method used was a sequential mixed method, including secondary data, i.e., the identification of data and the review of documentation relevant to the research and primary data, i.e. the data collected through focus group discussion and questionnaire with Likert Scale. The sample was selected purposively from six villages. The data were analyzed by transforming qualitative data into quantitative data using basic internal measurements. The results of the research indicate that the implementation of Law Number 6 Year 2014 concerning with Villages in gender-responsive development planning in Uluere District, Bantaeng Regency has not been fully integrated properly. This by gender-responsive indicators, which are still in the moderate category. The contents of the village RPJM documents do not fully represent the integration of gender issues. The representation of women in the village in village government organizational structure and village community organizations is still in low category. The availability of human resources that understand gender and mainstreaming and regulations/policies in the village level are still relatively moderate even though budget support has been in high category. In such a condition, full commitment from village government is needed in ensuring gender-responsive development planning in the village level through continuous and gradual capacity building, information dissemination, social media and innovative in developing a policy program in accordance with village authorit

Objective To design and evaluate an information and communication intervention via a smartphone app that provides access to essential information on best practices and safety in maternity services. Participants & Methods A randomized controlled trial (RCT) utilizing a mobile application to recruit and deliver the intervention, conducted from October 31, 2020, through December 12, 2020. The study was offered to all users registered on the app who self-identified as women, with ages between 18 and 49 years, with at least one child, pregnant or interested in having children in the future. The primary outcome measured was increased participant engagement in seeking an active role and informed choices. Participants received information about best practices (intervention) or about diapers (control). The trial was registered on the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry Platform, and the protocol was published according to CONSORT e-Health guidelines. Effect size was estimated by OR, with CI and p-values. Results 20,608 users were invited to participate in the study; 17,643 enrolled, 13,969 women completed the intervention stage and were included in the analyses; 50.9% had up to high school level; 41.9% used both public and private services. The intervention group registered an increased engagement in seeking an active role or making informed choices (OR 2.06, P<.001 ). The intervention proved to be highly effective for all secondary outcomes, as well. Conclusion This affordable digital technology effectively promoted awareness of safer, empowered choices in childbirth care, facilitating the translation of evidence-based, rights-based knowledge from institutional guidelines and recommendations to a broader audience.

The strategy of women in facing agrarian land conflict: Case of female farmers of Makassar Ethnics

One of the crucial issues in developing country is land conflict. It occured since 1978 and still unsolved. This research aimed to investigate and analyze (1) the social and cultural values of Makassarese Women (2) the impact of the land conflict on Makassarese Women, (3) the strategy of female farmers in facing land conflict. The research was conducted in the villages of Timbuseng and Kampung Beru, North Polongbangkeng Sub-District, Takalar Regency, Indonesia. The research employed qualitative method combined with ethnography case study with in-depth interviews, observation, document study, and focus group discussion (FGD). The results indicate that the land conflict happened in North Polongbangkeng Sub-District had an impact on the socio-economic and cultural life of the community. The women had to play a role and the same position as the man in productive, social and domestic matters. For 25 years, the community had to avoid and wait. Since 2007, the community had thought that the contact with PTPN XIV land had ended and the community could take over the land they owned. The strategy done by women was to join the man in their fight to get back their land. They started with confronting actions to forming an organization called Polongbangkeng Farmers Unity. In 2014 the partnership program was established as an effort to settle the land conflict, though until now this program had not answered the primary needs of the community in the region.

This study reports the outcomes of daily (semi-urban areas) and weekly (remote rural regions) programs for moderately wasted children supplemented with locally produced ready-to-use foods in the form of fortified cereal/nut/legume-based biscuits on Nias Island, Indonesia (RUF-Nias biscuit). Thirty-four children in daily and twenty children in weekly programs aged ≥6 to <60 months with weight-for-height z-score (WHZ) ≥ -3 to < -2 SD were recruited (October 2007-June 2008) on Nias and admitted into existing nutrition centers in the Church World Service project area. Individual discharge criterion was WHZ ≥ -1.5 SD. Weight gain of the children in daily and weekly programs was 3.9 ± 3.8 and 2.0 ± 2.0 g/kg/day, respectively. A higher proportion of children in daily than weekly programs reached target WHZ (76% vs. 35%, P = 0.004). Weight gain at program discharge/closure was highly predicted (R (2) = 0.228, P < 0.001) by compliance to RUF biscuits: high vs. low compliance resulted in a 1.33 (95% CI 0.16 to 1.53) g/kg/day higher weight gain. Compliance and admission in daily programs were significant factors in reducing the risk of not reaching the discharge criterion. However, mothers complained more frequently about time constraints in the daily relative to weekly programs.
