In this paper, we present a method to predict the examination result for remedy, called Context Awareness Score Prediction System (CASPS). CASPS builds on an awareness environment and predicts the learning situations. The main task of the method is in the analysis of the test results and in the provision of the learning suggestion and the remedial courses. The main contributions of the CASPS system described herein are twofold: (1) The system can produce the learning curve based on the examination result, which would make it easy for the students and teachers to understand the learning results. (2) The system can provide the course contents to the students to help them review after the examination. Moreover, it provides suggestions for teaching on the not yet familiar and confused contents.

Recent catastrophic landslide events caused large human and material damages. This shows again, that there is still not enough protection against such kinds of natural hazards. In an ongoing research project a new approach to improve early warning systems of landslides is pursued: complex simulations of landslides are coupled with geoinformation systems (GIS). This allows on the one hand for a detailed investigation of unstable slopes with the help of the simulation and on the other hand for a user friendly preparation of the complex simulation results in the GIS for decision support. In this paper the interconnection between a GIS and a simulation system is briefly introduced and the main focus is put on cluster methods for the processing of the complex simulation results in a suitable way to support the user in the decision support and in the learning system, respectively.

Context-aware technologies have attracted the attention of researchers in various domains, such as e-learning, the semantic web, and web intelligence. Generally speaking, contextual information can come from many resources, and the problem is that it is very difficult to integrate it into a single system or to exchange it between systems. Ontology may be able to solve this problem by describing and sharing particular domain knowledge and building a context-aware system. In this paper, an efficient ontology system called the intelligent project management system (iPMS) is proposed. The proposed system uses the web ontology language (OWL) to build contextual information and the corresponding rules. In addition, the Jena reasoning engine and OWL are used to deal with emergent events automatically. As a result, iPMS can provide an intelligent project management service.

Since the high computational cost of the structure-based protein-Ligand docking prediction is one of the major problems in designing new drugs, many researchers keep looking for a high performance search algorithm to find the workable directions to drug design as well as a simulator platform being able to test and verify the new drugs. In this paper, an improved version of Lamarckian genetic algorithm (ILGA) is first presented for enhancing the performance of LGA by using pattern reduction to reduce the computation cost and using tabu search to increase the search diversity to further find the better results. In addition, the proposed algorithm is also applied to a well-known simulator platform (AutoDock) to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can enhance the performance of ILGA in terms of convergence performance especially for highly flexible ligands.

Grid scheduling is an NP-complete problem which the objective is to minimize the completion time (makespan). This paper is motivated by the requirement that the feedback analysis service of e-learning system needs to distribute the computing jobs for balancing the workload and getting the fast response. We propose an efficient local search method embed into the differential evolution algorithm (DE) to find a feasible solution. DE is efficiently in the computing time and the proposed local search method tries to enhance the result of DE for minimizing the makespan. Comparing with DE, our proposed algorithm reduces the makespan with the ratio 64% in the best case. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed method.

Most wireless sensor networks require that every large enough node contain certain properties. By using the Szemeredi's regularity lemma, one can approximate a complex network by a much simpler object in such a way that the approximation is "regular" for most pairs of partitions of this network. After obtaining a more traceable network, we establish bounds for the probability of the property that a random key pre-distribution sub graph satisfies that each node has a path of length to its th- hop neighbors. The end result is a sharp threshold p ≥ Cn -(-1)/ that satisfies this property and that can be considered as an application of the sparse Szemerédi's regularity lemma. © 2011 IEEE.

Adaptive filtering approach to reduce noise and enhance details readability of Landsat images is presented in the paper. As a method of the filter weights adjusting the Recursive Least Squares algorithm was used. It allows correcting images from different channels according to the reference image. This image is a simple average of images acquired by Landsat 7 ETM+ scanner but more sophisticated reference images can be used. In the analysis the misfit images were uses instead of filtered one. In the paper example of adaptive filtering of images from Cairo City, Egypt is presented. We compare the adaptive filtering results with unsupervised land classification.

In presented work the analysis of temporal trend changes of small, long period ground deformation was shown. The general analysis concerns the selected mining areas of Dabrowski Coal Basin (south Poland) and more detailed analysis was performed for "Grodziec" coal mine. The ground deformations for time period between 1992 and 2003 were determined using PSInSAR technique. Performed analysis revealed that for some stable scatterers in analysed period of time the changes of deformation's trend occurred. The location of PS points with trend changes is not random (both in time and space). It was found that for first part of studied time period when the "Grodziec" coal mine was working for most PS points the increase of subsidence velocity was detected. The situation has changed after abandon the mine. After 1998 for most stable scatterers the decrease of subsidence velocity was revealed.
