Indication of ore mineralization in Bora Area, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi

Bora area have a mineralization system associated with geothermal activity, characterized by the presence of veins in the rock. This study aims to determine the indication of ore mineral. The method that used in this research is geological field survey and mineragraphic analysis. The results showed that the vein texture in the study area was in the form of crustiform-colloform, moss, and zoned crystal textures. Mineragraphic analysis results show the mineral content of ore associated with veins in the rock including pyrite, chalcopyrite and covelite. This proves that indication ore mineral in bora area is associated with the veins formed in the rock.

Increasingly limited residential land in urban areas results in residents looking for and making settlements around landfills. This affects people's lives in fulfilling their daily needs, clean water. To meet the demand for clean water, some residents use well water as the primary drinking water source. Judging from the condition of the residential areas located in the landfill area, there may be an effect of waste, especially liquid waste, on well water sources. For this reason, research is carried out using the geoelectric method by combining two configurations, namely Schlumberger and dipole-dipole. So that it can provide an overview of the boundaries of liquid waste contaminants in the soil, which are associated with conductive fluids that affect the quality of clean water from residential areas around the landfill. In this study, it was found that the fluid flow associated with liquid waste has a lateral movement to the right with a depth of 24.5 meters.

Shear wave velocity (Vs30) is one of the local condition parameters often used to determine buildings’ vulnerability to potential damage if an earthquake occurs. This parameter is essential for planning and evaluation in infrastructure development. Tadulako University, which is repairing the building and the layout of the campus area after the September 28, 2018 earthquake, needs to consider the parameters of the shear wave. Measurements of the Vs30 value have been carried out at 20 points spread across Tadulako University using the microtremor method. The value of Vs30 is then estimated to determine the classification of the surface soil. The results obtained indicate that the variation in value is not too significant; it is between 424 m/s – 530 m/s. This value is included in the C class site and has very dense soil and soft rock soil profile classification. The highest value is in the southwest part, and the lowest value is in the northeast part.

A single ambient noise measurement has been found to be useful in investigating the near-surface geology in particularly for estimating site fundamental frequency. This single microtremor method is very attractive and has been successfully applied in many projects as the method is non-destructive, low cost, feasible for urban environments, fast, and deep penetration. Furthermore, this single microtremor method has been successfully applied in many projects. This paper presents the application of the single microtremor method to estimate the site fundamental frequency at a site in the historical city of Byblos, Lebanon. Pre-processing of industrial origin detection was carried out. Several durations of the measurements were investigated to obtain the most stable results. The site fundamental frequency was validated using one-dimensional site response analysis. The results are presented in this paper. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The geochemical method is one of the methods used to know the characteristics of hot spring, and the estimation of subsurface temperature or geothermal reservoir. Analysis of chemical properties of hot springs through thermal chemistry by using trilinear diagram. The methods used are literature study and field observations such as mapping the distribution of hot water spring, titrimetric laboratory analysis, gravimetric, and spectrophotometer for the analysis of hot water spring through the geochemical approach in determining the type of hot water spring. The average temperature of 480C and pH of 7,85, clear color, smelled sulfur and taste salty. The result on the percentage value of the ion content in the hot springs samples that have been analyzed their chemical content, especially the anion content of CI, SO42−, and HCO3− CO32− indicates that hot spring type of Barasanga is a type of chloride. This is indicated by the large chloride ion content ranging from 85.486% to 90.627%.

Sumatra Fault as product from tectonic events in Sumatra is the boundary between west and east blocks. Sumatra Fault reactivation could be generated several hazards, especially in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP). Morphology of Sumatra Fault dominated by hill pattern variations from hill shade form, which should be delineated. The hazard potential has been identified by fault fracture density method combine with geological map and earthquake map. This research used ASTER GDEM and Regional Geology Map as basic data. Lineament interpretation is carried out on drainage map, DEM, and structural geology map. Earthquake data refer by earthquake history occurred near Sumatra Fault and subduction zone in western of Sumatra Island. The earthquake from Sumatra Fault potentially triggers landslide and liquefaction around BBSNP area. There is three regions as having geological hazard potential by Sumatra Fault movement, namely earthquake, landslide and liquefaction. Landslide will be collapsed relatively to the south and affected the main road of BBSNP. Furthermore, in eastern part of Sumatra Fault has liquefaction potential in Semaka and Suoh districts.

The greywacke sandstone in the Bulukuning area, Banjarnegara where was previously proposed as the Bulukuning Formation is part of the Luk Ulo Mélange Complex. In general, these molassic deposits show alternation between siltstone and siltstone with thin bedding deposited in the foreland basin. The Eocene sandstones are in some parts associated with the boudin structure, folded and cut by faults in the contractional regime. This study aims to determination of boudin type, structural orientation is highly correlated with deformation mechanism. This mechanism of deformation can be formed in different deformation periods. The correlation between the orientation of the systematic fault P-foliation, Y-shear, and R shows that the formation of boudinage is thought to be affected by the presence of a right movement (dextral), which follows the principle of the riedel shear. The deformation mechanism in the formation of sandstone boudin structures embedded in the scaly clay matrix is thought to be affected by plastic (ductile) by following the simple shear principle.

This study investigates the grain size characteristics and sediment types of the Aceh's coastal deposits that are primarily based on the sieve analysis. This study is mainly driven by two reasons. Firstly, this study is a preliminary effort to identify coastal sediment in the Aceh coastal areas. Secondly, this information is important to interpret the support mechanism of sediment during transportation and depositional processes. In this study, many sediment deposits from both the east and west coasts of Aceh were collected. Laboratory sieve analysis was carried out to these samples. Then, further analysis of this sieve analysis results is carried out. The analysis reveals the past transport mechanism of this study sand deposits which is river's channel. However, such finding should be investigated further as all the tested sand were taken at the top surface and big main rivers are not indicated at both sand locations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Leaching of limonitic nickel from Sorowako with sulfuric acid at atmospheric pressure

Indonesia has the largest nickel laterite reserves in the world that it plays an important role in fulfilling the demand for stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, and the issue of using electric cars in the future. Currently, low-grade nickel laterite ore has not been maximally processed into value-added products domestically. The extraction process that is widely applied in the industry for low-grade laterite nickel ore through the hydrometallurgical route, which is the leaching method at atmospheric pressure in a sulphuric acid solution. The characterization of nickel ore from Sorowako has been studied that included water content analysis, sieve analysis, XRF analysis, XRD analysis, and leaching in sulphuric acid solution with agitation method at various leaching times. The results showed that the nickel ore sample from Sorowako had a water content of 5.51% with a dominant size fraction of -4 +14 mesh. XRD and XRF analysis results have shown that the chemical compositions of laterite nickel from Sorowako were Limonitic type of goethite (FeOOH) and quartz (SiO2) with the content of Ni, Co, Mg, and Fe of 1.5%, 0.02%, 0.05%, and 23.82%, respectively. The highest percentages of nickel and iron extract that were obtained at the 12 hour leaching time were 90.01% and 97.11%, respectively.

Evaluation of heavy metal (Cu, Pb, Zn) distribution in base metal mining area at Sangkaropi: implication for land use planning

Settling-pond treatment systems have been applied in the base-metal mining area at Sangkaropi, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, before being discharged into the Koyan River through the agriculture area. This study aims to conduct a valuation of pollutant Pb, Cu and Zn in areas impacted by base-metal mining in sediment materials as a sensitive indicator for monitoring contaminants in the aquatic environment. Sediment sampling location, the first is in the upstream before the mining location, the second is located in the mining area to settling pond, and the third is in the area after settling-pond to the agriculture area. The concentrations of heavy metal were analyzed using uses AAS method. The assessment is performed based on the value of contamination degree, enrichment of heavy metal pollutant and ecological risk. The arrangement of the average frequency of heavy metal concentrations is Pb>Cu>Zn, which Cf and I-geo values have the almost same behavior. All metal in the upstream and agriculture site is classified as a low category, the Cu on the second and third sites is moderate. The assessment results from this study represent that Pb has a considerable ecological risk category value. However, polluted-Cu are categorized moderately need to be cautious, because metal enrichment comes from mineralization bedrock in the river. Therefore, the result of this study shows that geologic data, especially mineralized bedrocks associated the heavy metal concentration, should be taken into consideration in land-use planning policy in areas that have been impacted by mining and in the assessment of environmental health impacts.
