In this paper, based on 3d wavelet moments we present a new method called fractal scale descriptors for 3d objects. Just like wavelet moments, they are still robust to translation, rotation and scale, and have the multi-resolution features in the radial direction, which can handle noise to some extent and provide multi-level features to satisfy various requirements. Furthermore the new method is prior to the original 3d wavelet moments in computational complexity by using the fast algorithm of the spherical harmonics together with the Mallat algorithm of the wavelets.

This paper used surface curvatures and support vector machines for the identification of manufacturing processes in a database of mesh based CAD artifacts. The target is to classify prismatic machined and cast-then-machined parts into their respective classification to assist the manufacturing cost estimation. Current research on shape matching techniques has used shape functions to match the gross shapes of mesh models. However, they do not adequately discriminate artifacts manufactured by different processes. Our approach shows how different kinds of surfaces can distinguish different manufacturing processes. Statistics on surface curvatures are used to construct shape descriptors; then supervised machine learning classifier support vector machines are applied to separate the two classifications.

Design repositories are an evolution of such databases to include more heterogenous information and to provide enhanced capabilities through the application of knowledge representation techniques. The gene section ordering on solving traveling salesman problems is analyzed by numerical experiments. Some improved crossover operations are presented. Several combinations of genetic operations are examined and the functions of these operations are analyzed. The essentiality of the ordering of the gene section and the significance of the evolutionary inversion operation are discussed. Some results and conclusions are obtained and given, which provide useful information for the implementation of the genetic operations for solving the traveling salesman problem.
