Pool-riffle sediment and flow dynamics have been studied for many years, but there has been relatively little investigation on how field observations might be influenced by the variability of pool-riffle morphologies. In this letter we present a database of quantitative and qualitative measurements from sites where pool-riffle morphologies have been studied and apply two morphologic classifications that compare a) discharge and slope, and b) specific stream power and a representative coarse bed particle size. The classifications show that pool-riffles appear in different positions relative to mobility and morphologic transitions, which indicates that they occur within different flow and sediment regimes. Patterns in the distribution of studied pool-riffles show useful trends as well as an important diversity, the appreciation of which may help to clarify the importance of different flow and sediment transport phenomenon that underlie pool-riffle mechanics. © 2022, The Authors. The Sequoia Pliocene channel reservoirs within the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession, located offshore Nile Delta, pose significant challenges due to their complex stratigraphy and variable reservoir properties. This study employs an integrated approach, combining seismic data interpretation with comprehensive petrophysical analysis, to characterize these reservoirs and assess their hydrocarbon potential. Seismic data interpretation revealed a complex depositional environment, characterized by an upward-fining sequence of sandstones and mudstones. High seismic amplitudes were associated with gas sands, while lower amplitudes indicated background shale. The seismic stratigraphy indicates that the Sequoia channel system evolved from an initial high-energy erosional phase to a more subdued depositional environment, leading to significant heterogeneity in reservoir quality. Petrophysical analysis demonstrated that effective porosity values within the reservoir range from 18% to 30%, with water saturation levels between 38% and 68%, reflecting the variability in reservoir properties across different zones. The calculated Gas Initially in Place (GIIP) for the Sequoia channel ranges from 724.1 BCF to 4158.71 BCF, highlighting the substantial hydrocarbon potential within this complex system. This study underscores the importance of integrating seismic and petrophysical data to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Sequoia channel reservoirs. The results provide a robust framework for optimizing field development strategies, which is crucial for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery. The findings also offer valuable insights into the geological complexities of the WDDM concession, serving as a reference for future exploration and production efforts in similar deep-water environments. © 2025 The Author(s). Bogor Regency is one of Regencies in Jabodetabek area that is experiencing rapid urban growth. This condition impacted the decreasing conditions of 39's from 95's urban small lakes or locally known as 'situ'. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of situ Kebantenan and situ Cikaret as Ciliwung flood mitigation measure in the Bogor Regency. The SWAT model was employed for quantification the water balance of situ and watershed management. The simulation results of the water balance analysis indicated that the monthly average of volume of Situ Kabantenan and Situ Cikaret (2008-2015) were 136,955 m3 and 508,907 m3, the annual inflow Situ Cikaret were 24,693,822 m3/year and outflow were 25,177,593 m3/year, precipitation were 648,520 m3/year, evaporation were 166,543 m3/year, delta storage (1,794) m3/year, respectively. The result of hydrological responses analysis on application of situ and watershed management scenarios that combined the structural and non-structural measures was the best scenario for decreasing maximum discharge at situ outlet which is decreased 41% discharge. So that, in order to enhance the effectiveness of situs for Ciliwung flood mitigation, the combination of the structural and non structural management of 13 situ's in Ciliwung river basin within the Bogor Regency is recommended that can increase the storage capacity from 1.8 million m3 to 4.7 million m3. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study investigates hydrothermal silicification along rift border faults in the Cretaceous Rio do Peixe Basin, Brazil, using field geology, petrography, mineralogy, microtexture, and fluid inclusion microthermometry. We distinguish three main diagenetic domains: (1) a non-silicified damage zone, (2) a silicified damage zone composed of deformation bands and centimeter-scale quartz veins in the hanging wall and footwall, respectively, and (3) a silicified fault core with meter-scale wide quartz veins and mosaic breccia textures. We recognize three main events of deformation and silicification in the fault zone. The first silicification event occurs after the widespread development of deformation bands in the hanging wall damage zone that may reach 200 m in width. During subsequent deformation events, multiple fracturing episodes were accompanied with precipitation of the second quartz generation in hydraulic mosaic breccias and the third quartz cement in vein stockworks. The Choushui River groundwater basin (CRGB) in Yunlin County, Taiwan, is a significant groundwater source for the western part of the region. However, increasing groundwater demand and human activities have triggered a potential crisis due to overexploitation. Therefore, groundwater potential zone (GWPZ) maps are crucial for mapping groundwater resources and water resource management. This study employs the normalized index–overlay method and fuzzy extended analytical hierarchy process (FE-AHP) to map GWPZs cost-effectively. The methodology objectively incorporates weightings from various thematic layers by normalizing and correlating parameters with observed groundwater availability (GA). Site-specific observations, including aquifer thickness, depth to the groundwater level, and porosity, inform GA calculations. Seven comprehensive layers derived from remote sensing (RS) data are processed to obtain weightings and ratings for the groundwater potential index (GWPI) in the CRGB. Selected parameters are categorized into hydrological processes, human interventions, geological, and surface profiles. Hydrological processes include precipitation, modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI), and drainage density. Human interventions consist of the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) and normalized difference building index (NDBI). Surface profiles encompass the terrain ruggedness index (TRI) and slope, enhancing the study’s multi-criteria approach. The observed GA validates the GWPZ accuracy, classifying zones into five categories. According to the GWPI of FE-AHP, about 59.56% of the CRGB area can be categorized as "moderate" to "very good" potential groundwater recharge zones. Pearson’s correlation coefficient between GWPI and GA, based on FE-AHP, outperforms the conventional AHP. This RS-based approach efficiently evaluates GA in aquifers with limited wells, highlighting crucial zones in CRGB’s proximal-fan and southeastern mid-fan for informed groundwater management

The research area is one of the areas that have potential of hydrothermal deposit mineralization in Pacitan regency. This research aims to identify the presence of hydrothermal deposit mineralized zones through geophysical exploration by using induced polarization method in the study area. The induced polarization method is used to obtain anomalies in the form of contrast of resistivity and chargeability values in the study area. The results showed that the mineralized zones of hydrothermal deposit in the study area were characterized by significant anomaly contrast with the intensity of medium-high (> 100 Ωm) resistivity values associated with medium-value chargeability (20-50 ms). The association of resistivity and other chargeability values shows an intense alteration zone around the metal mineral deposits zone in the subsurface. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. A good characterization of a reservoir is required to understand its properties. One of the methods known is Rock Physics Template (RPT). This method attempts to characterize a reservoir in order to predict the behavior of the reservoir under different porosities and water saturation. However, most of RPT technique applications are limited to granular rocks and not for carbonates. Although carbonates generally suitable as reservoir rocks, it is proven to be more challenging. The complex system of carbonates porosities often gives scatter pattern on the correlation between porosity and P-wave. Therefore, this research attempt to use RPT to model carbonate reservoir. We use Kuster Toksoz as the basis for carbonate rock modeling with the help of the Biot-Gassmann equation. The target of this paper is the Baturaja formation that is located in South Sumatra Basin. This formation is known to be a carbonate reservoir that has produced gas hydrocarbon. This study offers an approach on how to better understand the application of RPT on carbonate formation. Based on the RPT modeling done in this research, specific parameters need to be obtained in order to develop a functional RPT model. These parameters are the aspect ratio of the porosities and the elastic modulus of the minerals. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The reservoir has a significant role as a place of hydrocarbon accumulation in a petroleum system. Therefore, during exploration, a good understanding of the reservoir characterization becomes important to recognize the hydrocarbon migration path. There are several types of reservoirs which are commonly found;one of them renowned as carbonate reservoir. This type of reservoir is hard to be understood due to the heterogeneity of its pore type as a result of intense cementation and diagenesis. Information of pore type can be obtained based on core analysis or rock physics analysis. There are some rock physics approaches commonly used such as Kuster-Toksöz, Self Consistent Approximation (SCA), and Differential Effective Moduli (DEM). On the other hand, there are also other approaches but less famous. Parameters such as spherical porosity(S ), pore shape parameters -pore shape factor (S) and relative pore shape factor(ΔS) - are sensitive to identify pore type which may be developed in a carbonate reservoir. A positive value of S and ΔS is the characteristic of carbonate rocks with the domination of stiff pore (high aspect ratio). These characteristics also can be informed by a value of S > 1. On the opposite, a negative value of S and ΔS is the characteristics of carbonate rocks dominated by soft pore (low aspect ratio) that also can be informed by a value of S © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Seismic tomography is a method that is widely applied to obtain seismic velocity structures below the surface. This method is applied to various cases, from global to regional scales, as well as local scales such as in the case of volcanoes, geothermal areas and underground mining. Until now, the grid form that is still widely used is the regular grid form. With a very rigid grid shape, it will be more difficult and inflexible to model the geometry of certain geological models that are very varied, even though mathematically there is no reason to avoid certain grid shapes and sizes. In order to minimize the uncertainty of the subsurface geological model grid, we developed a script to perform seismic tomography where the shape and size of the grid can be made irregular based on the Voronoi diagram. The number of grids in the inversion process can also adaptively increase or decrease based on the number of the raypath data. We then applied it to the synthetic crosshole tomography data and compared the results with the regular grid. With the irregular shape and size of the grid, better inversion results are obtained and are more suitable with the synthetic model.

From the geological aspect, Bandung is a basin surrounded by mountain area. The stratigraphical setting of Bandung is also dominated by thick and soft sediment which makes Bandung needs a mitigation plans needed to reduce the risk of ground motion. Horizontal to Vertical Spectrum Ratio (HVSR) is a popular method developed by (Nakamura, 1989) in microtremor study to use for seismic characterization which is used in this research. This method is used to determine the seismic characteristic in Bandung Basin. The seismic characterization estimated in this research are amplification and dominant frequency. Those values are obtained from HVSR curves which then used to determine the shear wave velocity and depth of Bandung Basin with inversion method. Amplification value in Bandung Basin and its surrounding area is between 2-11.5 with its highest value is in the south-eastern part of observation area. The segmented amplification values based on natural period of building are varies in values based on the range of period and location points. The other seismic characteristic in this research is dominant frequency which value is between 0,1-8 Hz with the highest values are in the north and south part of observation area, while the middle part has the lowest value. Bandung Basin has low shear wave velocity underneath it which less than 800 m/s within depth more than 200 m of depth. There is also a high velocity structure which divide Bandung Basing into two major parts: west part and east part. Those seismic characteristics can be used as a guide to carry-on mitigation procedures to minimize the risk if any disasters happen. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
