Human comfort, safety, and performance are severely hampered by extremely cold environments, necessitating the ongoing development of innovative fabric technologies. The ability of materials to keep people warm is crucial, but conventional fabrics frequently have drawbacks in terms of comfort, durability, and thermal performance. To trace the development of fabric technologies insights from historical perspectives are drawn to trace the evolution of fabric technologies and key challenges highlighting their crucial impact on fabric performance in extremely cold situations. Design considerations are explored to improve comfort, movement, and protection by emphasizing the importance of layering systems. Standardized testing methods for the evaluation of fabric performance in cold environments are delved into. These evaluation criteria will be reliable and effective for future fabric solutions in extremely cold environments. Finally, the actual case studies are presented to show how emerging technologies can be successfully used in extremely cold environments. © 2024, idd3. All rights reserved.

Citronella essential oil (CEO) has multitudes of industrial applications like insect repellents, aroma therapeutic substances, personal care products, food preservatives, etc. due to the presence of citronellal and geraniol as the two vital volatile organic compounds (VOC). Herein, a low-cost electronic nose (E-Nose) setup has been developed employing a Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) based dual sensor array system for effective simultaneous detection of citronellal and geraniol in the CEO sample. The sensors have been prepared using molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) technology for better sensitivity and selectivity. Principal component analysis was used to assess the performance of this multi-sensor array setup. The system could detect and discriminate both citronellal and geraniol simultaneously from the same CEO sample with a high separability index of 38.996. © 2024 IEEE.

Effect of zero bus load flow on network reconfiguration of distribution network

In this paper, a novel Student Psychology Based Optimization (SPBO) method with Zero Bus Load Flow (ZBLF) is proposed for the optimum placement of distributed generation sources (DGs) in the 33 bus distribution network (DN) with and without the network reconfiguration. To reduce the stress on the utility, a predefined/constant energy is considered to be imported from the utility at different load levels (annual hourly load patterns). The proposed method is used in the presence of multi-objective functions for the optimum placement of DGs with and without network reconfiguration that shows a considerable reduction in active power loss and voltage deviation as well as an increment in the annual energy savings. Besides, the comparative statistical analysis shows that the proposed method scored the first rank for all the cases and all the load percentages. This confirms the superiority of the proposed method over the different existing methods available in the literature. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The main goal of using core yarn is to take benefit from the various qualities of its components. The filament used in core yarn adds strength to the yarn, while the sheath fibers gives the appearance and physical attributes. As the property of yarn is influenced by the core, the variation of core provides option for widening application of core spun yarn. In recent days, stretch denim fabrics have raised the potential application of denim fabric in apparel sector. The process parameters influence the structure and ultimately the behavior of the yarn and that of the product made out of it. Optimization of the parameters can help in economic production of the best quality of product using available resources. In our study process parameters such as linear density, stretch percentage of lycra and testing parameters such as gauge length and speed of testing are optimized to get high elastic recovery and tenacity of yarn. The error percentage for optimized results is not more than 7 percent so model is valid for actual usage. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

Cancer remains a major contributor to mortality rates across the globe, causing nearly 10 million fatalities in 2020. Among all cancer types, breast cancer has the highest incidence, around 2.26 million cases reported across the globe by the World Health Organization. In the last few years, breast cancer was diagnosed in approximately 2.3 million people and caused around 685,000 deaths. In this paper, our investigation entails executing a statistical scrutiny of the worldwide proliferation of breast cancer, as well as delving into various machine learning and deep learning techniques for detecting breast cancer, along with their constraints and intricacies. Additionally, we have proposed a hybrid Machine Learning (ML) approach for detecting breast cancer with utmost accuracy, which streamlines the assessment procedure presently employed by radiologists in screening mammograms. © 2023 IEEE.

DNA microarrays can simultaneously measure the expression level of thousands of gene within a particular mRNA sample that provide information about the state of cells and tissues. Though these expressive values are useful in cancer classification, and understand the mechanisms involved in the genesis of disease processes, however, only a few genes out of these thousands of genes contribute towards disease classification. On this basis, usage of feature selection algorithm is favourable, as the main goal of feature selection algorithm is to identify the relevant features (here genes) efficiently. In this paper, we have applied four filter Feature Selection (FS) methods, namely, Mutual Information (MI), Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC), Chi2, ReliefF along with three well-known classifiers, namely, Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT), and K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN) on six microarray datasets (both binary and multi-class) namely, Leukemia, Lung, Lymphoma and Leukemia, Gastric, SRBCT and Childhood Tumor and recorded the accuracies. © 2023 IEEE.

In order to achieve better benefits, distributed generation (DG) sources of optimum size need to be placed at optimum location. A new optimisation algorithm, named as mixed discrete student psychology-based optimisation (MDSPBO) algorithm, is applied to solve the DG optimisation problem with the objective of real power loss minimisation. Using the proposed MDSPBO algorithm, the location and the sizing of DG have been optimised simultaneously. In this work, optimum placement of unity power factor (UPF) DG and shunt capacitor to two different distribution networks (DNs) are studied. Simultaneous placement of UPF-DG and shunt capacitor is also studied for both the DNs. To analyze the performance of the proposed MDSPBO, statistical analysis has been performed. From statistical analysis, it may be established that the MDSPBO may find the optimum solution and the performance of MDSPBO is quite better compared to other considered optimisation algorithms with high-level of significance. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Core spun yarn gives denim fabrics durability and flexibility, which has increased the focus on these yarns among denim manufacturers in recent years. These yarns undergo tensile fatigue loading, a typical phenomenon that happens on various parts of clothing, during use and wear. The study on the response of yarns during cyclic loading is essential because it leads to a better understanding of the growth characteristics when repeatedly loaded during the use of core spun yarn fabrics. In this study, the impact of various production parameters such as linear density, stretch percentage, twist multiplier, and the number of cyclic loading on the fatigue value of core-spun yarns was investigated. 18 different core spun yarns were manufactured by modified ring spinning to investigate the effect of various production parameters on fatigue value before and after 10, 20, and 30 load cycles. Experimental results showed that there is an increase in fatigue value with an increase in the number of load cycles. Statistical analysis showed that there is a significant effect of linear density, stretch percentage, and twist multiplier on the fatigue value of yarn. There is a reduction in fatigue value with an increase in linear density, stretch percentage, and twist multiplier of yarn. The contribution of the number of cyclic loading was found to be more dominating in comparison to other process parameters like linear density, twist multiplier, and stretch percentage on the fatigue value of core-spun yarns. © 2022 Universitat de Barcelona.
