This paper proposes a mashup framework for creating flexible mashup applications in which the user can selectively browse through mashup items. Our framework provides a data management engine for on-demand data generation, and GUI components called widgets that can be used to browse through mashed-up data selectively. The application developer has to only prepare a mashup relation specifying the web service combinations and widget configurations specifying how to display the mashed-up data. On the basis of these configurations, widgets monitor user interactions and requests data from the data management engine that processes the demand-driven creation of mashed-up data. To enable selective browsing, a table widget, for instance, allows selection of columns to be displayed, provides a limited view with scroll bars, and filtering facilities. Our framework also offers a mechanism for widget coordination where a widget can change the display target according to states or events of other widgets. We introduce a sample application for tour planning using five cooperative widgets, and discuss the usability and performance advantages of our framework. Copyright 2008 ACM.

Noise removal from an observed signal is an important problem in signal processing. PDE-based methods have been widely used because of their common property being good at removing the noise while preserving the edges. These methods restore images by modifying towards cartoon-like images. Therefore, other important features such as textures and certain details tend to be degrad.d in the denoising process. In this work, we propose a modified variational denoising algorithm that adaptively selects the parameters according to the local nature of the image. In order to estimate the locally appropriate parameters, neural network based learning is employed. This method can adaptively change the denoising level by changing the regularization parameter and the smoothing kernel according to the local image. The results of denoising by the proposed method show both visual and objective improvements.

Anomalous environmental electromagnetic (EM) radiation waves have been reported as the portents of earthquakes. We have been measuring the Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) range all over Japan. Our goal is to predict earthquakes using EM radiation waves. Previously, we proposed a method of detecting anomalous signals by focusing on linear prediction errors. However, this method also sensitively respondsto earthquake-unrelated anomaly. For accurate earthquakeprediction, we should eliminate earthquake-unrelated signals. In this paper, we try to reduce false detection rate by global signal elimination using Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) and evaluate the effectiveness of this method.

TTM is a type of multivariate public key cryptosystem. In 2007, the inventor of TTM proposed two new instances of TTM to resist the existing attack, in particular, the Nie et al attack. The two instances are claimed to achieve a security of 2 109 against Nie et al attack. In this paper, we show that the instance I is still insecure, and in fact, it do not achieve a better design in the sense that we can find a ciphertext-only attack utilizing the First Order Linearization Equations while for the previous version of TTM, only Second Order Linearization Equations can be used in the beginning stage of the previous attack. Different from previous attacks, we use an iterated linearization method to break the instances I. For any given valid ciphertext, we can find its corresponding plaintext within 2 31 F 2 to power of 8 -computations after performing once for any public key a computation of complexity less than 2 44 . Our experiment result shows we have unlocked the lock polynomials after several iterations, though we do not know the detailed construction of lock polynomials.

The aim of this study is to develop a feature subset selection (FSS) method based on the margin of Support Vector Machines (SVM). The problem of directly using the SVM margin is that it does not always provide clear relationship between its value and the performance of SVM, and the best obtained subset is not guaranteed to be the best possible one. In this paper, a new solution is describe by the introduction of the Confident Margin (CM) in the subset criterion, which permits to get near the best recognition rate by monitoring the peak of CM curve without directly calculating the recognition rate, in order to save computational time. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated in artificial and real-world data experiments. © 2005 IEEE.

We have developed a system called "Web-Com "for Web-based education: the Web browser provides a multi-layer drawable canvas on which users can draw annotations on Web pages. Annotations can be shared with other users in real-time and non-real-time for use of synchronous and asynchronous learning. This paper mainly discusses the asynchronous function including processing of annotation by recorded voice. That is, it can replay the process of annotations including the process of voice recording, which enables asynchronous learning. In our previous work, we conducted a subject experiment to evaluate Web-Com's synchronous functions. The experimental results showed that the learners could learn fairly interactively with an instructor in a Web-based class. In this paper, we conducted a subject experiment in an actual class, to evaluate its asynchronous functions and validity of asynchronous learning. The experimental results indicate that Web-Com has advantages for the learners to understand given lectures

We describe a cell bank construction which was designed by a content-based image retrieval system using SQL database and XML for breast carcinoma images. However, the conventional pathological images for storage, management and data sharing have been done by a manual handling. We attempted to find a solution for the occurred processing problems by constructing a computerized standard system and a large dataset for the breast carcinoma images. It is possible that the system could classify the images according to the categorized cancer, text retrieval- and content-based retrieval system color- and texture features were applied. The software was designed and developed by using Visual Basic and the database constructed by using SQL the extract the texture features from the images. That was then stored in XML for MPEG-7 based retrieval standard system. © 2004 IEEE.

The final goal of this research is to develop a mobile system to collect 3-D information and panoramic image in rubble to search human bodies and situation in the rubble. This system has abilities to collect and deliver infomation and cooperate with other robots etc. As a part of this project, multiple CMOS cameras are integrated in a sensor head, and software for generating panorama image and distance information is developed.
