The Effects of Countermeasures for Preventing Vigilance Decrement During Manual and Automated Driving

Using driving mode (manual and automated driving) and countermeasures (chewing gum and auditory-tactile stimulation) for preventing vigilance decrement as experimental factors, this study investigated the effectiveness of chewing gum and auditory-tactile stimulation for preventing vigilance decrement during 2-hour simulated manual and automated driving. The observed reaction times and error rates for the unexpected events revealed the vigilance decrement in the latter half of the 2-hour experiment for both manual and autonomous driving conditions. The countermeasures contributed to mitigating vigilance decrement. The psychological rating on comfort and sleepiness evaluation by KSS during the 2-hour experiment indicated that the chewing gum was more effective than auditory-tactile stimulation. Vigilance decrement was less for the manual driving condition than for the Level 2 automated driving condition with less WWL score of NASA-TLX. The overload explanation applied to the vigilance decrement in manual driving, because the vigilance decrement for the higher workload condition (manual driving without a countermeasure) was more remarkable than that for the lower workload condition (manual driving with a countermeasure). Data of automated driving did not apply to either overload or underload explanation of vigilance decrement, and only the countermeasures contributed to the mitigation of vigilance decrement. © 2013 IEEE.

The 2011 flood in Thailand exposed significant vulnerabilities in industrial areas, highlighting the necessity for enhanced disaster risk management through Area-Business Continuity management (Area-BCM). This preliminary study focuses on identifying how stakeholders rely on information from each other to improve disaster preparedness and response. The research involves systematically identifying Area-BCM stakeholders and designing interview questions, which are evaluated by experts using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) to ensure relevance and clarity. All interview questions surpassed the IOC threshold of 0.5, confirming their effectiveness in capturing information interdependencies. Expert feedback led to refinements in the questions, underscoring the importance of tailored data collection. This initial plan provides a critical foundation for understanding information interdependence and highlights the importance of well-designed data collection methods. The findings have significant implications for developing more resilient disaster management strategies in industrial areas, emphasizing the need for precise and relevant stakeholder communication to enhance Area-BCM effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

A marketing policy called the"Membership Stage System" is widely used in retail business. A membership stage provides benefits to customers such as shopping points when a customer's annual cumulative purchase amount exceeds a certain threshold and the customer's stage is raised a level. As a result, the company is not only able to promote the customer's willingness to purchase, but it can also obtain the purchasing history data, thereby enabling high-quality customer analysis. The most fundamental analysis is to infer the difference of purchasing characteristics between member stages and to construct different clustering models for each member stage. However, when the clustering models are learned independently for each membership stage, it is not possible to compare the obtained clusters between membership stages. In this study, we propose a new analytical method and its learning algorithm to analyze differences in cluster distribution between membership stages. Through demonstrating the proposed model applied to an actual data set of purchasing history data on a membership stage system, the effectiveness of our proposal is clarified. © 2022 Japan Industrial management Association. Automatic speaker verification (ASV) plays a critical role in security-sensitive environments. Regrettably, the reliability of ASV has been undermined by the emergence of spoofing attacks, such as replay and synthetic speech, as well as adversarial attacks and the relatively new partially fake speech. While there are several review papers that cover replay and synthetic speech, and adversarial attacks, there is a notable gap in a comprehensive review that addresses defense against adversarial attacks and the recently emerged partially fake speech. Thus, the aim of this paper is to provide a thorough and systematic overview of the defense methods used against these types of attacks. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

Resilience in business continuity of an entire industrial complex has direct local socioeconomic impact;however, there are few methods available for objective assessment of its status. This study investigated whether change in air quality could explain the state of economic activity in an industrial complex. Concentrations of PM2.5 and NO2 above several industrial complexes in central Thailand were extracted using the Google Earth Engine™ and analyzed to examine their temporal characteristics in relation to decline in business activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Results confirmed that industrial complexes whose activities were diminished by the pandemic showed concurrent trends of reduction in each pollutant, proving that the concentration of airborne substances has potential to reveal the level of activity of industrial complexes. To enhance the application potential of the proposed method, further study should investigate specific causal inferences by extracting the characteristics of other airborne substances, and consider industrial complexes that include a greater number of companies and major industries. © 2023 IEEE.

The research on Variational Quantum Algorithms (VQAs) has gained significant momentum because of their promising practicality in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era. Recent studies highlight the potential of VQAs in reinforcement learning (RL) by replacing classical components with parameterized quantum circuits (PQCs). Building on this, we propose a quantum Q-learning model for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP), combining a PQC with an RL training process. We present a PQC for embedding both static and dynamic states in RL environments. The proposed PQC approximates the Q-value function by using the expectation values of different observables. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed PQC outperforms the existing PQC for the CVRP with fewer quantum resources. Furthermore, our method shows competitive performance compared to the classical counterpart. © 2024 IEEE.

eLearning has been utilized as a mode of instruction among medical students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines by employing the latent variables of UTAUT2, along with two additional latent variables gathered from various related literature. A sum of 360 medical students participated and answered an online survey that consists of 40 questions. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized and found that performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC), can successfully predict the actual use (AU) of medical students with a precision of 54.22%. A higher performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC) can enhance and promote the acceptance of medical eLearning platforms. This is the first study that has examined the acceptance of eLearning platforms among medical students in the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcomes of this research can serve as guidelines for the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines for the enhancement of eLearning platforms. Although this study only utilized the latent variables of UTAUT2 along with two additional variables: Learning Value and Instructor Characteristics;the findings of this study would still hold significant value for promoting open innovation in eLearning platforms in medical fields worldwide. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). There has been little research comparing patients’ perceptions of the quality of care in outpatient and inpatient settings between general and specialized hospitals. This study aimed to address this gap by examining 1,337 outpatients and 1,833 inpatients across all general (n=5) and specialized (n=7) tertiary public hospitals in a major city in China. Patients’ perceptions of the quality of care were assessed across six dimensions: safety, tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Dimension gap scores were used to compare perceptions of each dimension between the two hospital types, and statistical differences were determined using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Negative dimension gap scores were identified in the safety, tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy of outpatient and inpatient care in general and specialized hospitals, except for the tangibility of inpatient care in general hospitals. The negative dimension gap scores for specialized hospitals were significantly larger than those for general hospitals across all six dimensions of both inpatient and outpatient quality of care, except for assurance of inpatient care. Overall, outpatients and inpatients in both general and specialized hospitals did not experience the care they expected, and outpatient and inpatient care in specialized hospitals were perceived as lower quality than in general hospitals. Patient perceptions indicated that both outpatient and inpatient care in both general and specialized hospitals need further enhancements. © 2024 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

Superior and quality human resources are based on healthy human resources with indicators of adequate nutritional intake according to age development. However, the world still faces the problem of hunger and malnutrition today. According to a UNICEF report, the number of people suffering from malnutrition in the world will reach 767.9 million people in 2021. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that malnutrition is a dangerous threat to the health of the world's population. Stunting also has an impact in Indonesia, the prevalence of toddlers experiencing stunting in Indonesia is 24.4% in 2021. The solution created is to classify and cluster the prevalence of stunting to produce a pattern that can be used as best practice to be transmitted to other affected areas. The algorithm used is Euclid. The Euclid algorithm can cluster stunting prevalence data into 4 clusters with the very little category at 79%, the little category at 67%, the many categories at 51%, and the very much category at 21%. The results of the classification and clustering of the best stunting prevalence in cluster one with a very small number, can be used as a source of accurate and updated information that can be used by the government in its efforts to optimize stunting handling in each district/city based on artificial intelligence which can provide handling and optimization patterns. stunting in every district/city. © 2023 IEEE.

This research aims to build a mathematical model to formulate the problems of implementing knowledge management systems in companies that often face obstacles in achieving the desired objectives and goals. With increasing competition in the business sector, organizations or organizations realize the importance of utilizing the knowledge assets that reside in each individual and organization. If this knowledge can be managed optimally, it can become a competitive advantage for the company due to the emergence of innovative ideas by the concepts of knowledge management theory. By implementing optimal knowledge management (KM), companies can design innovative solutions to improve business operations and increase overall revenue. The factor analysis method will be used to find the determining factors for the success of the implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) and the regression analysis method will also be used to form a mathematical model of several new factors which are formed as independent variables with the current level of community understanding of KMS as the dependent variable. The research results provide insight into strategies to improve success factors to successfully facilitate KMS implementation. This study contributes to existing knowledge management by providing insight into dynamics that go beyond the technical aspects of KMS, ultimately developing strategies for more effective and efficient utilization of knowledge and organizational growth and supporting competitive advantage for companies. © 2024 IEEE.
