The escalation of energy prices and the pressing environmental concerns associated with excessive energy consumption have compelled consumers to adopt a more optimal approach towards energy usage and an advanced infrastructure such as smart grids. Blockchain technology significantly improves energy management by creating supply chain resiliency in a distributed smart grid. This study proposes a blockchain-based decision-making framework with a dynamic energy pricing model to manage energy distributions, particularly during an energy crisis. Empirical data from U.S. consumers are employed to show the applicability of the proposed model. We include price elasticity to address changes in energy market prices. Findings revealed that the proposed framework reduces total energy costs and performs better when a disruption has occurred. This study provides a post hoc analysis in which four machine learning algorithms are used to predict energy consumption. Results suggest that the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) algorithm has the highest accuracy compared to other algorithms. © 2024 The Authors

This paper aims to fabricate functionally graded dental crown using a multi-slurry tape casting additive manufacturing technology. The different luminescence of the dental crown was obtained with different composition of zirconia and yttria. Zirconia with tunable mechanical properties and translucency are obtained by adding 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, and 5 mol% of yttrium oxide to zirconia powder. After obtaining the printable slurry with maximum solid loading, the green bodies are prepared using the in-house built high-speed multi-ceramic tape casting technology. They are later sintered with two-stage sintering method. After the successful fabrication, the mechanical properties and translucency of the specimens were evaluated with Vickers hardness, three-point bending and translucency parameter tests. Finally, an FGM tooth crown with five photocurable slurries is proposed to demonstrate the translucent gradient effect of sintered part. The solid loading of 80% zirconia and 20% resin delivered samples without any surface cracks. The shrinkage ratio analysis showed that the sintered sample dimension was reduced by 20%, 20%, and 23% along X, Y, and Z directions. The samples fabricated with 3% yttrium oxide to zirconia delivered excellent hardness (1687 HV) and flexural strength (650.6 MPa). However, the relative luminescence increased with increasing the yttrium oxide for 3–5 mol%. With the optimized process parameters, the proposed dental crown is fabricated and analyzed for their shrinkage ratio, mechanical, and translucency properties. The study proposes the potential of fabricating customized dental crown with gradient translucent appearance. © 2024

Syntactic representation learning for neural network based TTS with syntactic parse tree traversal

Syntactic structure of a sentence text is correlated with the prosodic structure of the speech that is crucial for improving the prosody and naturalness of a text-to-speech (TTS) system. Nowadays TTS systems usually try to incorporate syntactic structure information with manually designed features based on expert knowledge. In this paper, we propose a syntactic representation learning method based on syntactic parse tree traversal to automatically utilize the syntactic structure information. Two constituent label sequences are linearized through left-first and right-first traversals from constituent parse tree. Syntactic representations are then extracted at word level from each constituent label sequence by a corresponding uni-directional gated recurrent unit (GRU) network. Meanwhile, nuclear-norm maximization loss is introduced to enhance the discriminability and diversity of the embeddings of constituent labels. Upsampled syntactic representations and phoneme embeddings are concatenated to serve as the encoder input of Tacotron2. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach, with mean opinion score (MOS) increasing from 3.70 to 3.82 and ABX preference exceeding by 17% compared with the baseline. In addition, for sentences with multiple syntactic parse trees, prosodic differences can be clearly perceived from the synthesized speeches. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Controlled drug release by using nanomedicines (NM) is one of the significant methods in chemotherapy. In this study, cancer cells were treated by modulating the release of cyclophosphamide using copper doped mesoporous bioactive glass (Cu-MBG) nanoparticles (NPs). These NPs were also used to repair and regenerate the lost bone-tissues. One-pot synthesized NPs were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, BET, and BJH. Size, surface area, and pore size of these NPs were determined to be 60 ± 5 nm, 313 m2/g, and 10.74 nm respectively. Their osteogenic potential was established by using biomarkers such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and osteocalcin (OC) assay. Biocompatibility was evaluated by MTT assay, which showed no cytotoxicity in normal human fibroblast (NHFB) cells. By using different initial concentrations (2-10 mg/mL), the amount of cyclophosphamide (Cpa) loaded was varied and NM expressed a cumulative release of 65-89%, which inhibited the viability of U2OS cancer cells. Keeping in view of all these results, it was endorsed that these biocompatible Cu-MBG NPs can be potentially used for controlled drug delivery, antibacterial applications, and bone regeneration. © 2023, The Authors. VAENAR-TTS: Variational auto-encoder based non-autoregressive text-to-speech synthesis

This paper describes a variational auto-encoder based nonautoregressive text-to-speech (VAENAR-TTS) model. The autoregressive TTS (AR-TTS) models based on the sequenceto-sequence architecture can generate high-quality speech, but their sequential decoding process can be time-consuming. Recently, non-autoregressive TTS (NAR-TTS) models have been shown to be more efficient with the parallel decoding process. However, these NAR-TTS models rely on phoneme-level durations to generate a hard alignment between the text and the spectrogram. Obtaining duration labels, either through forced alignment or knowledge distillation, is cumbersome. Furthermore, hard alignment based on phoneme expansion can degrade the naturalness of the synthesized speech. In contrast, the proposed model of VAENAR-TTS is an end-to-end approach that does not require phoneme-level durations. The VAENAR-TTS model does not contain recurrent structures and is completely non-autoregressive in both the training and inference phases. Based on the VAE architecture, the alignment information is encoded in the latent variable, and attention-based soft alignment between the text and the latent variable is used in the decoder to reconstruct the spectrogram. Experiments show that VAENARTTS achieves state-of-the-art synthesis quality, while the synthesis speed is comparable with other NAR-TTS models. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This research is using methods model experiments and numerical simulation in tunnel respectively to discuss what influence that stationary vehicles located in upwind fire source would have on backlayering length Lb of thermal fume. In this experiment, the same scale of the fire source was adapted, and the variables are the obstacles height of upwind fire source. There are two kinds of obstacles: lower obstacles and higher ones;the configuration is divided into two kinds: no stationary vehicles (M0) and both sides of stationary vehicles (M2). This experiment is using 1/5 model of the tunnel, and the model material Biot number and Fourier number is close to the full-scale tunnel. In terms of numerical simulation, a full scale model was built by original code which is self-developed and then calculated the fire source scale and time range of quasi-steady used in numerical simulation with dimensionless formula and Froude scaling methods respectively. Comparing the relation between dimensionless backlayering length Lb/H and Q*1/3/Fr with curve fitting equation proposed by Kunikane (11th International Symposium on AVVT, Luzern, Switzerland, pp. 87–101, 2003 [1]), it shows that under the same Froude number circumstance, the Lb with obstacles is shorter than that without obstacles. Also, model experiments and numerical simulation both show similar result. Thus the original code used for numerical simulation in this study is suitable for studying the effect of stationary vehicles on Lb. After analyzing the effect of stationary vehicles on the longitudinal velocity, it is found that in the case of M2, the longitudinal velocity on the upper part of the tunnel is bigger than that of M0. Therefore, the Lb in M2 is shorter than that in M0. Because, in the case of M2, higher obstacles cause the wind speed of the upper part of the tunnel to become faster, which in turn causes the Lb to become shorter and the slope of the fitting curve to become smaller. © Springer Nature Singapore

The operational capability of drones is limited by their inability to perform aerial refueling. This can be overcome by automating the process with a computer vision solution. Previous work has demonstrated the feasibility of automated aerial refueling (AAR) in simulation. To progress this technique to the real world, this thesis conducts experiments using real images of a physical aircraft replica and a motion capture system for truth data. It also compares the error between the real and virtual experiments to validate the fidelity of the simulation. Results indicate that the current technique is effective on real images and that the simulation can predict errors in real world experiments.

Patent value quantification methods are in great demand in formulating intellectual property, development, and investment strategies. Various methods have been studied to date. Among them, a method using citation information has been proposed because patent citations have a significant impact on the market value of a company. However, conventional methods are based on static models using PageRank, etc., and do not reflect the growth potential of the technical community that a patent belongs to. In this study, we developed a patent value evaluation method that considers the technical community's growth potential. Furthermore, we compared the patent value calculated by our method with company sales. We investigated the necessity and effectiveness of considering the growth potential of technical fields.

This present research examines the behavioral intentions of Filipinos to use online grocery applications during the novel COVID-19 pandemic. The study proposes an integration of the health belief model (HBM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) to identify the factors affecting the acceptance and usage of Filipinos of online grocery applications in terms of the impact of health risk for COVID-19. To accurately measure the factors and their relationship to behavioral intentions and usage behavior, a questionnaire was developed and distributed to 373 residents in the Philippines. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied as an analytical method for this study. The results revealed that performance expectancy, perceived benefits, perceived severity, and cues to action significantly influenced the behavioral intentions and usage of online grocery apps during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study’s findings can be utilized as a theoretical framework for future researchers of consumer behavior;e-commerce developers;and grocery industry retailers, to enhance the innovation and services of online grocery applications. The results of this study may also be used and capitalized on by investors and managers to apply in strategizing when developing and marketing online grocery applications among con-sumers. Moreover, the framework of this study may be adopted and utilized by other online markets, even in different counties.
