Benefit for clinical melanoma treatments, the transdermal neoadjuvant therapy could reduce surgery region and increase immunotherapy efficacy. Using lipoplex (Lipo-PEG-PEI-complex, LPPC) encapsulated doxorubicin (DOX) and carrying CpG oligodeoxynucleotide;the transdermally administered nano-liposomal drug complex (LPPC-DOX-CpG) would have high cytotoxicity and immunostimulatory activity to suppress systemic metastasis of melanoma. LPPC-DOX-CpG dramatically suppressed subcutaneous melanoma growth by inducing tumor cell apoptosis and recruiting immune cells into the tumor area. Animal studies further showed that the colonization and growth of spontaneously metastatic melanoma cells in the liver and lung were suppressed by transdermal LPPC-DOX-CpG. Furthermore, NGS analysis revealed IFN-γ and NF-κB pathways were triggered to recruit and activate the antigen-presenting-cells and effecter cells, which could activate the anti-tumor responses as the major mechanism responsible for the therapeutic effect of LPPC-DOX-CpG. Finally, we have successfully proved transdermal LPPC-DOX-CpG as a promising penetrative carrier to activate systemic anti-tumor immunity against subcutaneous and metastatic tumor. © 2022

Considering Product Life Cycle Stages and Worker Skill Level in Seru Production systems

The product life cycle (PLC) stages can be considered as introduction, growth, maturity, and decline. Seru production systems has a potential to perform better where products have high demand variability and low volume during the introduction and decline stages. On the other hand, the assembly line is popular in the final processes of mass production systems due to its high efficiency, low product cost owing to economy of scale, and low labor cost by low-skilled workers. Therefore, an assembly line design is more successful for growth and maturity stages of a product where the demand is more stable. Likewise, if skill level of workers for different tasks have higher variation, assembly line can be considered as a better option. Hybrid system of assembly line and seru production system performs better with workers who have less skill variation. A worker is expected to improve his/her skill levels when performing a task continuously leading to seru production system with low skill level variation. Therefore, this study aims to introduce the details of a preliminary approach considering product life cycle stages and worker skill requirements.

Speech-XLNet: Unsupervised acoustic model pretraining for self-attention networks

Self-attention network (SAN) can benefit significantly from the bi-directional representation learning through unsupervised pretraining paradigms such as BERT and XLNet. In this paper, we present an XLNet-like pretraining scheme "Speech-XLNet" for unsupervised acoustic model pretraining to learn speech representations with SAN. The pretrained SAN is finetuned under the hybrid SAN/HMM framework. We conjecture that by shuffling the speech frame orders, the permutation in Speech-XLNet serves as a strong regularizer to encourage the SAN to make inferences by focusing on global structures through its attention weights. In addition, Speech-XLNet also allows the model to explore the bi-directional contexts for effective speech representation learning. Experiments on TIMIT and WSJ demonstrate that Speech-XLNet greatly improves the SAN/HMM performance in terms of both convergence speed and recognition accuracy compared to the one trained from randomly initialized weights. Our best systems achieve a relative improvement of 11.9% and 8.3% on the TIMIT and WSJ tasks respectively. In particular, the best system achieves a phone error rate (PER) of 13.3% on the TIMIT test set, which to our best knowledge, is the lowest PER obtained from a single system. In behavioural economics, a decision maker’s (DM’s) preferences are often expressed by a preference functional such as expected utility or a distortion risk measure, which assigns a numerical value to a risky prospect. Preference robust optimization (PRO) is about decision making where the DM’s preference functional is ambiguous and the optimal decision is based on the worst-case preference functional from a set of plausible ones constructed from available partial information about the DM’s true preferences. In this paper, we propose a choice function (a particular class of preference functionals) based PRO model where the DM’s preferences over a prospect space satisfy Von Neumann-Morgenstern’s (VNM’s) axioms of completeness, monotonicity, and continuity. We concentrate on the class of choice functions which are monotonic, quasi-concave, and multi-attribute. The resulting PRO model is broader than the existing expected utility-based PRO models in that: (a) it captures a broader class of DM’s preferences;and (b) it can be effectively applied to multi-attribute decision making problems where the DM’s preferences over different attributes are related in a nonlinear manner. We propose a cutting plane-type method for evaluating the worst-case choice function and solve the resulting PRO problem by solving a sequence of convex optimization problems. We examine the behavior and scalability of the proposed model and computational schemes numerically on a multi-portfolio optimization problem and a capital allocation problem. The 2011 Thailand Floods heavily impacted 7 industrial complexes, in which 56.7% were Japanese companies. Many notable companies received severe damage until they had to cease their production. Area Business Continuity management (Area-BCM) implemented in Thailand stems from this disaster which causes both private and public sectors to think about their business sustainability. The Area-BCM project is an on-going implementation in Thailand aiming to enhance collaboration among stakeholders in industrial areas for coping with upcoming threats. One of the most significant factors before launching a plan is to understand individual attitudes and perceptions pertaining to the Area-BCM project for the best practice, effective and continuous outcomes. This study aims to investigate various factors that affect the perceived usefulness (PU) about implementing Area-BCM. Our proposed research model is developed aligning with the behavioral model and factors influencing flood mitigation consisting of Subjective norms, Experience, Worry about flooding, and Flood hazard knowledge. Questionnaires were distributed to employees in the industrial areas which were flooded in 2011. The developed model was tested by Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results consequently show that subjective norms and flood hazard knowledge significantly influence perceived usefulness. This can be implied that, in an organization, major thoughts of related people could shape individual perceptions about using a disaster management plan. Moreover, the governmental and local authorities should be a significant force, that helps support plan implementation and educate people about disaster knowledge.

Organizational models of production systems that focus on services and servitization are experiencing an increase in an application. These models emphasize the value proposition for the customer and a better understanding of the value creation process. Additionally, the emergence of new technologies such as those associated with Industry 4.0 also requires well-structured and results-oriented processes. In this perspective, although there are several tools for measuring both operations and organizational performance, the literature still lacks tools that integrate and align these two perspectives, accounting for activities at the operational level that reflect objectives at the strategic level, and vice-versa. Therefore, a procedure for aligning process performance (operations' performance) and strategic performance (organizational performance) in a service context is proposed. This procedure is based on three main components identified through a literature review: (1) guidelines associated with enterprise engineering that focus on processes, developed by Deschamps (2013);(2) a set of critical success factors for implementation of performance measurement systems that focus on organizational performance, developed by Keathley (2016);and (3) ten determinants of service quality, proposed by Parasuraman (1985). The alignment procedure is presented as being mediated by Parasuraman's model, relating enterprise engineering guidelines and critical success factors. © 2018 Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Droughts are natural hazards that exist in nature and can have a serious impact on the environment and society, which includes water shortages, crop failures, fires and, in some cases, soil manipulation. To assess and predict droughts, various methods, such as the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), were designed to segregate drought trends and excess rainfall over a period ranging from 3 to 48 months. This study proposes an innovative approach to predicting drought use, the Evolutionary Polynomial Expansion with Feature Selection (EPEFS) model, a hybrid method that integrates polynomial regression with feature selection to increase accuracy and interpretability. The methodology was applied to historical precipitation data from six meteorological stations in Türkiye, covering the period from 1971 to 2016. The drought index Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was used as the primary indicator, with predictions made for three different time scales: SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12. Furthermore, a time series cross-validation strategy was employed to ensure performance assessment. The EPEFS model obtained R 2 coefficients of 0.880, 0.903 and 0.929 for SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12, respectively, surpassing the other models analyzed. Furthermore, the model presented less complexity in the generated expressions. The results suggest that the EPEFS model holds promise as a robust and interpretable tool for drought forecasting, with potential applications in early warning systems and mitigation strategies.

Ringdown gravitational waves of compact binary mergers are an important target to test general relativity. The main components of the ringdown waveform after merger are black hole quasinormal modes. In general relativity, all multipolar quasinormal modes of a black hole should give the same values of black hole parameters. Although the observed binary black hole events so far are not significant enough to perform the test with ringdown gravitational waves, it is expected that the test will be achieved in third generation detectors. The Japanese gravitational wave detector KAGRA, called bKAGRA for the current configuration, has started observation, and discussions for the future upgrade plans have also started. In this study, we consider which KAGRA upgrade plan is the best to detect the subdominant quasinormal modes of black holes in the aim of testing general relativity. We use a numerical relativity waveform as injected signals that contains two multipolar modes and analyze each mode by matched filtering. Our results suggest that the plan FDSQZ, which improves the sensitivity of KAGRA for broad frequency range, is the most suitable configuration for black hole spectroscopy.
