Intrusion detection systems continuously watch the activity on a network or computer, looking for attack and intrusion evidences. However, host-based intrusion detectors are particularly vulnerable, as they can be disabled or tampered by successful intruders. This work proposes and implements an architecture model aimed to protect host-based intrusion detectors, through the application of the virtual machine concept. Virtual machine environments are becoming an interesting alternative for several computing systems due to their advantages in terms of cost and portability. The architecture proposed here makes use of the execution spaces separation provided by a virtual machine monitor, in order to separate the intrusion detection system from the system under monitoring. As a consequence, the intrusion detector becomes invisible and inaccessible to intruders. The prototype implementation and the tests performed show the viability of this solution. The management of distributed software development projects presents many challenges. One of them happens right at the start of the project and consists of the allocation of tasks between remote teams. When allocating a task to a site, the project manager takes into account several factors such as technical knowledge of staff and proximity to the client. The project manager usually takes this decision in a subjective way. The verbal decision analysis is an approach based on solving problems through multi-criteria qualitative analysis, which means it considers the analysis of subjective criteria. This paper describes the application of verbal decision analysis methodologies ORCLASS and ZAPROS III-i to classify and rank the most relevant factors that the project managers should take into account when allocating tasks in projects of distributed development of software.

This paper presents an implementation of a P2P Web Browser, called We2Peer(1), for publishing web pages on internet through peer-to-peer networks. The present proposal overcomes the problems involving entities dependency and content availability, by the user side, changing the conventional way used to publish web pages on Internet The proposed solution allows anyone who has a computer connected to the Internet, even through domestic ADSL connection, to publish web pages on their own machines. By using a peer-to-peer web browser another mechanism for searching web pages is offered based on DHT (Distributed Hash Tables). The user interface, provided by Web2Peer, carries all functions needed for creating, editing, publishing, searching, downloading and replicating the web pages on the peer-to-peer network.

Infrastructure-as-a-service clouds enable customers to use computing resources in a flexible manner to satisfy their needs, and pay only for the allocated resources. One challenge for IaaS customers is the correct provisioning of their resources. Many users end up underprovisioning, hurting application performance, or overprovisioning, paying for resources that are not really necessary. Memory is an essential resource for any computing system, and is frequently a performance-limiting factor in cloud environments. In this work, we propose a model that enables cloud customers to determine whether the memory allocated to their virtual machines is correctly provisioned, underprovisioned, or overprovisioned. The model uses two metrics collected inside a VM, resident and committed memory, and defines thresholds for these metrics that characterize each provisioning level. Experimental results with Linux guests on Xen, running four benchmarks with different workloads and varying memory capacity, show that the model was able to accurately diagnose memory provisioning in 98% of the scenarios evaluated. Digital road maps have gained fundamental role in population's daily life, so they need to be accurate and up-to-date. A viable solution is to generate maps by processing GPS data. However, one of the most challenging tasks regarding this approach is how to extract road centerlines from the cloud of georeferenced GPS points. The literature presents various methods that do it, but none have been found that is prepared for the continuous update of the map and refinement of its roads' accuracy. In this context, the objective of this work is to propose a method to identify road centerlines using an evolutive algorithm in order to generate and update road maps. This work uses as source of data GPS traces collected by smartphones. Although suitable to obtain a large amount of georeferenced data, these devices bring the additional problem of identifying the transport vehicle used along each trace. Preliminary results indicate that the method's performance is satisfactory, with an average variation of 2.95 meters in relation to satellite images.

One of the main factors that impede the practice of the telemedicine is not the lack of new technologies for the communication, but the lack of studies on the use of the technology already installed in the distant areas, in way to be used of a rational way. The objective of the telemedicine is to provide help to the cares with the health with quality the distant areas of the great attendance centers. Therefore, it cannot ignore the fact that these areas do not make use of point technologies for communication. Then, it is justified the need to accomplish studies that facilitate the practice of the independent telemedicine of the installed technology. Then, the objective of this work is to use as pilot an unit of remote health, contributing with a support system that allows the practice of the telemedicine using the technology of available transmission in the respective place, avoiding that the factor cost is a barrier for the telemedicine projects and can begin an improvement process in the quality of the attendance in units of distant health of the great centers of medical attendance.
