In this paper we present the use of participatory design in a public health management system, called PRONTO, that is being developed in Brazil. This system involves a partnership between the city hall and the University of Blumenau and it is being developed by the Development Laboratory and Transfer of Technology. The project involves a health network with 64 units of family health, 8 ambulatories and 1 polyclinic. The paper describes the experience in the project phase of the Multidisciplinary Treatment System module and presents the obtained results.

A wavelength-tunable, silicon photon-pair source based on spontaneous four-wave mixing, integrated with a pump rejection filter in a single, flip-chip packaged CMOS chip, is demonstrated with a coincidence-to-accidentals ratio of 9.1 with no off-chip pump filtering. The discussion about how to put together Gentzen's systems for classical and intuitionistic logic in a single unified system is back in fashion. Indeed, recently Prawitz and others have been discussing the so called Ecumenical Systems, where connectives from these logics can co-exist in peace. In Prawitz' system, the classical logician and the intuitionistic logician would share the universal quantifier, conjunction, negation, and the constant for the absurd, but they would each have their own existential quantifier, disjunction, and implication, with different meanings. Prawitz' main idea is that these different meanings are given by a semantical framework that can be accepted by both parties. In a recent work, Ecumenical sequent calculi and a nested system were presented, and some very interesting proof theoretical properties of the systems were established. We report the structural and optical properties of ten-period ZnO/MgxZn1–xO multiple quantum wells (MQWs) prepared on the most widely used semiconductor material, Si. The introduction of a nanometer thick high-k Y2O3transition layer between Si (111) substrate and a ZnO buffer layer significantly improves the structural perfection of the MQWs grown on top of it. The high structural quality of the ZnO/MgxZn1–xO MQWs is evidenced by the appearance of pronounced high order satellite peaks in X-ray crystal truncation rods; high resolution cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy images also confirmed the regularly arranged well and barrier layers. When the well width is less than ∼2.7 nm, the quantum-confined Stark effect in MQWs can be negligible. Not only the increasing exciton-binding energy but also reducing exciton–phonon coupling determined in temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra indicate quantum-size effect. Our results demonstrate that ZnO/MgxZn1–xO MQWs integrated on Si have great potential in UV optoelectronic device applications.

A self-adaptive system can dynamically monitor and adapt its behavior to preserve or enhance its quality attributes under uncertain operating conditions. This article identifies key challenges for the development of microservice applications as self-adaptive systems, using a cloud-based intelligent video surveillance application as a motivating example. It also suggests potential new directions for addressing most of the identified challenges by leveraging existing microservice practices and technologies. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. The crystal orientation of an exfoliated black phosphorous flake is determined by purely electrical means. A sequence of three resistance measurements on an arbitrarily shaped flake with five contacts determines the three independent components of the anisotropic in-plane resistivity tensor, thereby revealing the crystal axes. The resistivity anisotropy ratio decreases linearly with increasing temperature T and carrier density reaching a maximum ratio of 3.0 at low temperatures and densities, while mobility indicates impurity scattering at low T and acoustic phonon scattering at high T.

Software projects are affected by technical knowledge as well as the personality of the team. Such factors can reduce or increase the software quality and development speed. For successful task allocation, it is essential to consider the skills and profile of each developer, thus maximizing their productivity. In projects with large teams, task allocation can be challenging, and the help of tools can facilitate its execution. In this work, we propose an intelligent approach for allocating software development tasks suitable to the profile of developers. From the literature, we define the appropriate skills and technical profiles for a development team, and the assessment is based on the developer completing a questionnaire. We developed a recommendation system to suggest tasks to be allocated to developers, employing text processing techniques. For validation, 495 tasks were used from an actual project developing simulator software for military training. The recommended allocations were evaluated by the project developers and used to improve the system. Validations showed that the developed approach makes consistent and coherent task recommendations to developers according to the developer profile, as participants agree with the recommendation for 76% of tasks.

Combinatorial optimization problems are ubiquitous in various disciplines and applications. Many heuristic algorithms have been devoted to solve these types of problems. In order to increase the efficiency for finding the optimal solutions, an application–specific hardware, called digital annealer (DA) has been developed for solving combinatorial optimization problems using quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) formulations. In this study, we formulated the number partitioning problem and the graph partitioning problem into QUBO forms and solved such problems with the DA developed by Fujitsu Ltd. The QUBO formulation of the number partitioning problem was fully connected. The DA found the overall runtime for the optimal solution to be less than 30 seconds for 6500 binary variables. For the graph partitioning problem, we adopted modularity as the metric for determining the quality of the partitions. For Zachary’s Karate Club graph, the modularity obtained was 0.445, a 6% increase against D–wave Quantum Annealer and Simulated Annealing. Moreover, to explore the DA’s potential applications to real–world problems, we used the search for communities or virtual microgrids in a power distribution network as an example. The problem was formulated into graph partitioning. It is shown that the DA effectively identified community structures in the IEEE 33–bus and IEEE 118–bus network. © 2023, CC BY.

With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) vision, RFID technology has attracted more and more interests from many industries. In the EPCglobal standard which standardizes RFID architectural framework and interfaces, the Electronic Product Code Information System (EPCIS) - the repository in the RFID network - plays a pivotal role in storing dynamic and historical RFID trajectory data, well-tailored to supply chain applications. However, in the IoT era, EPCIS should be capable of storing a large amount of realtime and continuous time-series RFID data in a scalable manner. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the requirements and current design of EPCIS and report current limitations of SQL-based approaches for IoT applications. To cope with these limitations, we explore a NoSQL-based approach for EPCIS in the IoT and propose a column-family-based data model and customization for Cassandra-based EPCIS. Using real-world implementation, we also conduct a performance comparison between MySQL and Cassandra in different deployment scenarios (i.e., physical and virtual machines). As a result, we show the benefits of using Cassandra datastore for EPCIS in the IoT in terms of response time, throughput, and flexibility.
