Building large-scale quantum communication networks has its unique challenges. Here, we demonstrate that a network-wide synergistic usage of quantum memories distributed in a quantum communication network offers a fundamental advantage. We first map the problem of quantum communication with local usage of memories into a classical continuum percolation model. Then, we show that this mapping can be improved through a cooperation of entanglement distillation and relay protocols via remote access to distributed memories. This improved mapping, which we term αpercolation, can be formulated in terms of graph-merging rules, analogous to the decimation rules of the renormalization group treatment of disordered quantum magnets. These rules can be performed in any order, yielding the same optimal result, which is characterized by the emergence of a "positive feedback" mechanism and the formation of spatially disconnected "hopping" communication components-both marking significant improvements in quantum network connectivity. © 2024, CC BY.

Accelerating Radiochemistry Development: Automated Robotic Platform for Performing Up to 64 Droplet Radiochemical Reactions in a Morning

The growing discovery and development of novel radiopharmaceuticals and radiolabeling methods requires an increasing capacity for radiochemistry experiments. However, such studies typically rely on radiosynthesizers designed for clinical batch production rather than research, greatly limiting throughput. Two general solutions are being pursued to address this: developing new synthesis optimization algorithms to minimize how many experiments are needed, and developing apparatus with enhanced experiment throughput. We describe here a novel high-throughput system based on performing arrays of droplet-based reactions at 10 μL volume scale in parallel. The automatic robotic platform can perform a set of 64 experiments in ~3 h (from isotope loading to crude product, plus sampling onto TLC plates), plus ~1 h for off-line radio-TLC analysis and radioactivity measurements, rather than the weeks or months that would be needed using a conventional system. We show the high repeatability and low crosstalk of the platform and demonstrate optimization studies for two 18F-labeled tracers. This novel automated platform greatly increases the practicality of performing arrays of droplet reactions by eliminating human error, vastly reducing tedium and fatigue, minimizing radiation exposure, and freeing up radiochemist time for more intellectually valuable pursuits. © 2023, The Authors. 探索行星形成的过程不仅揭示了地球及其生命的起源,还为寻找地外生命提供了关键线索。行星在原行星盘中形成。原行星盘是由气体和尘埃构成的扁平盘状系统,围绕在新生恒星的周围,其跨度可达数千亿公里。近年来,通过分析行星对原行星盘的引力扰动,并比较观测和数值模拟,天文学家得以推断正在盘中形成的行星的质量和轨道。然而,这种方法依赖于复杂的流体力学数值模拟,因计算成本高昂而难以普及。为了克服这一挑战,我们开发了一款基于机器学习的工具。该工具应用数据驱动的深度算子网络(DeepONet),将系统的参数映射到流体力学偏微分方程的解,从而无需昂贵的数值模拟即可实现两项功能:1)快速求解正问题,即从行星参数预测盘中物质分布和速度场;2)高效求解反问题,即从观测到的扰动图像中推断行星参数。我们展示了该工具在求解速度、精确性和鲁棒性方面的显著优势,并讨论了其在理论研究和观测中的潜在应用。我们还探索了物理信息神经网络(PINN)在这一问题的应用,特别是针对原初行星盘中旋转吸积流的时间依赖性二维可压缩Navier-Stokes方程。行星引力扰动引入显著的时间依赖性空间特征,使问题复杂化。通过对物理定律而非标注数据的训练,PINN在捕捉系统演化的空间高频特征方面展现潜力。标准PINN在此任务中存在收敛困难、预测误差随时间累积、长时间解偏离物理定律以及捕捉空间高频特征能力不足的问题。为此,我们的研究引入了自适应激活函数、时间推进策略和网络权重继承方法,以提升PINN性能。改进后的PINN模型在与标准PINN的比较中表现出显著更低的预测误差,成功再现了大部分空间高频特征,无需标注数据。这项研究为将PINN应用于类似的时间依赖性流体力学问题提供了重要参考。

The next-generation ground-based gamma-ray Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) will consist of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) of three different sizes distributed in two sites. The Large-Sized Telescopes will cover the low-energy end of the CTA energy range, starting at about 20 GeV. After its first years of operation at the CTA northern site, the Large-Sized Telescope prototype (LST-1) is in the final stage of its commissioning phase, having collected a significant amount of scientific data to date. In this contribution, we present the physics performance of the telescope using low-zenith Crab Nebula observations and Monte Carlo simulations fine-tuned accordingly. We show performance figures of merit such as the energy threshold, effective area, energy and angular resolution, and sensitivity based on the standard Hillas-parameters approach and following the source-independent and dependent analysis methods. The analysis threshold is estimated at 30 GeV. The energy resolution is around 30%, and the angular resolution is 0.3 degrees at 100 GeV. The best integral sensitivity of LST-1 is about 1.1% of the Crab Nebula flux above 250 GeV for 50 hours of observations. We also show the spectral energy distribution and light curve from Crab Nebula observations, which agree with results from other IACTs and link smoothly with Fermi-LAT when considering statistical and systematic uncertainties near the energy threshold. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

We propose a simple and generic construction of the variational tensor network operators to study the quantum spin systems by the synergy of ideas from the imaginary-time evolution and the variational optimization of trial wave functions. By applying these operators to simple initial states, accurate variational ground-state wave functions with extremely few parameters can be obtained. Furthermore, the framework can be applied to spontaneously study symmetry-breaking, symmetry-protected topological, and intrinsic topologically ordered phases, and we show that symmetries of the local tensors associated with these phases can emerge directly after the optimization without any gauge fixing. This provides a universal way to identify quantum phase transitions without prior knowledge of the system.

Dimensionality plays a crucial role in long-range dipole-dipole interactions (DDIs). We demonstrate that a resonant nanophotonic structure modifies the apparent dimensionality in an interacting ensemble of emitters, as revealed by population decay dynamics. Our measurements on a dense ensemble of interacting quantum emitters in a resonant nanophotonic structure with long-range DDIs reveal an effective dimensionality reduction to d¯ = 2.20(12), despite the emitters being distributed in 3D. This contrasts the homogeneous environment, where the apparent dimension is d¯ = 3.00. Our work presents a promising avenue to manipulate dimensionality in an ensemble of interacting emitters. © 2023, CC0.

Triangular lattice quasi-two-dimensional Mott insulators based on the bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF) molecule and its analogies present a possibility to produce exotic phases by coupling charge and spin degrees of freedom. In this work we discuss magnetic properties of one such material, κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Hg(SCN)2Cl, which is found at the border of the phase transition between a Mott insulator into a charge ordered state. Our magnetic susceptibility and cantilever magnetization measurements demonstrate how the charge degree of freedom defines magnetic properties for few different charge phases observed in this material as a function of temperature. Between TCO=30K and TS=24K we observe charge and spin separation due to one-dimensional charge stripes formed in this material below TCO=30K. Below TS=24K charge and spin degrees of freedom demonstrate coupling. Spin-singlet correlations develop below 24 K, however, the melting of charge order below 15 K prevents the spin-singlet-state formation, leaving the system in the inhomogeneous state with charge ordered spin-singlet domains and charge and spin fluctuating ones.

Magnetism and astronomical infrared spectrum of fullerene C60 and void induced graphene molecules

Fullerene C60 shows astronomical four infrared bands (IR) of carbon rich planetary nebulae. However, there remain many unidentified bands. Our previous paper revealed that single void-defect induced graphene molecule reproduce many astronomical bands. In this paper, we investigated a series of multiple-void induced graphene molecules. We tried spin dependent DFT calculation. Model molecules are C23 (one carbon pentagon ring among hexagon network), C22 (two), and C21 (three). Those were all magnetic molecules with spin state of Sz =2/2, 2/2 and 4/2 respectively. Calculated IR was compared with astronomical observation. The largest astronomical band at 18.9 micrometer was found in C23. Second largest band at 17.4 micrometer appeared both in C22 and C21. Other major bands from 6 to 10 micrometer were reproduced well by a combination of C23, C22 and C21. Similarly, larger size graphene molecules of C53, C52 and C51 were also magnetic and reproduced astronomical bands as well. Weighting sum IR of those molecules could successfully trace astronomical 12 bands from 6 to 20 micrometer. A series of multiple void induced graphene would be major component of astronomical carbon. The Galactic Center region is known to host a wide variety of very-high-energy gamma-ray sources. In 2018 the prototype of the Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) for CTA was inaugurated, and has been regularly observing the Galactic Center since 2021. To observe the Galactic Center in the southern sky, LST-1, located in the Northern hemisphere, requires an observation mode at a low telescope elevation. In this study, we assessed the performance of LST-1 at the large zenith angle, based both on simulations and observational data for the standard candle Crab Nebula. Analyzing LST-1 data from the Galactic Center observations, we obtained the spectral energy distributions of Sagittarius A* and G0.9+0.1, which were comparable with the results from the current imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes, with a broad energy coverage owing to the large-zenith-angle observation and the low energy threshold of LST-1. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

The prototype Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) was inaugurated on La Palma, Canary Islands, in 2018. Since then, the telescope is in the commissioning phase and takes regular gamma-ray data on astrophysical sources while waiting for other CTA telescopes in La Palma to be constructed. Here we present the status of the commissioning, lessons learned, the telescope performance, and scientific highlights achieved in the last couple of years. The science results include the detection of active galactic nuclei flares, studies of pulsar wind nebulae and pulsars, the detection of a Nova, and searches for gamma-ray emission from gamma-ray bursts. We also present the status of the construction of the three further LST telescopes (LST-2-4) in La Palma and plans for their commissioning. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.
