The utilization of ground mobile inspection robots in industrial applications has gained significant traction due to their ability to enhance safety, efficiency, and data accuracy in hazardous environments. This paper introduces a framework designed to assist in selecting and implementing these robots in industrial setting, addressing the critical need for choosing the most suitable for specific inspection tasks. The framework categorizes critical capabilities into several key domains including navigation, inspection, integration, constructive characteristics and support. Then, this paper evaluates nine robots based on those domains, revealing significant variances in their capabilities, and establishes a workflow for selecting the most suitable robots to address the specific needs of different inspection tasks. This paper concludes that the adoption of this framework and workflow may guide industries in making informed decisions about integrating inspection robots, thereby improving operational safety, reducing risks, and enhancing inspection efficiency.

Over the past two decades, the New Urbanism has emerged as a controversial alternative to conventional patterns of urban development. Although growing in popularity, it has received a sceptical reception in journals of planning, architecture and geography. This paper reviews criticisms of the New Urbanism and examines evidence and arguments on both sides of each issue. Critiques may be roughly divided into those involving empirical performance, ideological and cultural affinities, and aesthetic quality. While insufficient evidence exists in some cases to make final judgments, it is argued that the critical attack on the New Urbanism remains unconvincing. Much of the critical literature is flawed by the use of caricature, inadequate sampling of projects, deficient understanding of New Urbanist principles and practices, premature judgments, unrealistic expectations and ideological bias. While New Urbanists can learn from the critiques of their work, and research gaps need to be filled, the New Urbanism remains a resilient, practical and well-founded alternative to conventional land development practices.

The road to the acquisition of the USNS Impeccable (T-AGOS 23) has seen a few uncommon and challenging twists and turns, resulting in delays and disruption to the program. The saga began in 1993, when the original shipbuilder, facing financial difficulties, filed for Chapter XI bankruptcy protection. For two more years the program was stalled before the Navy was able to warrant the work that had been done up to that point. In 1995 the contract was reassigned to another shipbuilder to complete the vessel and obtain the necessary certificates to comply with all the applicable requirements of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This unprecedented approach put the Navy in the unique situation of being responsible for two of the most controversial issues in a ship construction process, i.e., detail design and equipment warranties. This paper gives the status of the program, discusses how various technical issues and production demands are being addressed, and describes the future hurdles that need to be overcome before delivery of the vessel.

At present, the affluent, medical and wellness tourism industry in Thailand is facing challenges in global tourism competitiveness that includes assessment of the country's potential and readiness to become the leading in wellness tourism and sustainable restoration of world-class quality. This research developed indicators for assessing the potential of wellness tourism destinations, in which affluent, medical and wellness tourism is among the main target industries that are important to the economic development of Thailand. This research was preliminarily conducted by using systematic literature review. The results of the study reveal that potential wellness tourism destination assessment in the Thailand context consists of seven factors and 50 indicators. Based on the results, recommendations for future research are provided. In an empirical research, a questionnaire was used as the tool for data collection and component analysis confirmation. Then, the generated factors and indicators were used to develop innovative systems for assessing the potential of wellness tourism destinations and to be tested on stakeholders of the same in Thailand.

Risk management in shipbuilding projects is important in practice, but there have been few studies about risk assessment in the shipbuilding industry. The purpose of this study is to identify critical risks in shipbuilding projects and to examine the relationships among them, according to the ship production phases. A survey analysis was conducted with 248 experts from 10 major Korean shipbuilders in April 2007, and association rule mining was used as the research methodology. Twenty-six different risks are deduced. At the beginning stage of shipbuilding, it was discovered that design and financial risks were related, and human resource risks in ship design had relatively more influence but financial risks did not. At the block manufacturing stage, important risk factors were management of production equipment, supply of raw materials and labor, and quality management. Financial, technical, and managerial risks all had an important influence at this phase. At the erection stage, technical risks such as changes in design and managerial risks such as exceeding time and budget limits proved to be important. At the project finalization, phase risks were exchange rates, interest rates, timeline, fulfilling specifications, and natural disasters. The research results could be valuable for industrial participants to understand the shipbuilding risks in each construction stage.

This paper reports on the architecture and performance of the Creative Artificially-Intuitive and Reasoning Agent Caira as a conductor for improvised avant-garde music. Caira's listening skills are based on a music recognition system that simulates the human auditory periphery to perform an Auditory Scene Analysis (ASA). Its simulation of cognitive processes includes a comprehensive cognitive calculus for reasoning and decision-making using logic-based reasoning. Caira is used as conductor for live music performances with distributed ensembles, where the musicians are connected via the internet. Caira uses a visual score and directs the ensemble members based on tension arc estimations for the individual music performers.

Thermal comfort can be defined as the ‘condition of mind that expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment.’, and adaptive control measures comprise an adjustment to indoor environmental conditions based on occupant preferences, behavior, and feedback. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) in thermal comfort and adaptive control measures has the potential to significantly improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort in buildings. The adoption of the Working-from-home modality by several institutions and companies during and after the 2020 pandemic, accelerated the development of even more advanced and effective solutions in this area. This study, in its first phase, seeks to identify input parameters related to adaptive control measures adopted by the same occupants in two work environments (office building and residences) to promote personal thermal comfort contributing to the development of individual devices and IoT applications related to thermal comfort monitoring.
