This paper presents an experimental study on steady‐state sound pressure levels and reverberation times in a tenth long‐space scale model. The purpose of this work is to validate a recently developed one‐dimensional transport equation model for acoustic predictions in long spaces. A series of measurements has been conducted in the scale model to reveal receiver‐position dependence of measured and modeled parameters in the long spaces. Experimental results at different octave bands are obtained. This paper will compare the acoustically measured results with that of simulations.

This paper presents a one‐dimensional transport equation model for acoustic field predictions in urban streets. Considering urban streets as elongated enclosures, acoustic properties of the surfaces are typically quite different. For example, the top and two ends are often open and the streets are usually reflective. A recently developed one‐dimensional transport equation [Jing et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 125, 2735 (2009)] is extended to model non‐uniform absorption and scattering coefficients and is applied to urban streets acoustic predictions. This paper discusses preliminary experimental results obtained from a tenth scale‐model to validate the model.

In this work, a diffusion equation model [J. Xiang, J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 123, 145–153 (2008)] is applied to two coupled spaces to study the time‐dependent sound energy flows through the coupling area (aperture). The energy feedback is found when the primary room is less reverberant than the secondary room. The Bayesian framework is applied to quantify double‐slope characteristics of sound‐energy flow decays obtained from the diffusion equation numerical simulations. This work also reveals that the turning point on a double‐sloped energy decay is highly correlated to the time instant when the energy flow direction flips over.

Nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) is Indonesian native tree species originating from Maluku Island, especially Ambon and Banda. The spread of nutmeg in Bogor area can be traced back to the Dutch colonial period when different kinds of spices were traded across the Indonesian archipelago and beyond. Having this long history, nutmeg is now widely used in Bogor's culinary. At the national level, it has high economic value and become one of Indonesia's main export products. However, there is little research on nutmeg tree spatial distribution. The objectives of the study were : (1) identify the nutmeg trees spatial distribution in Bogor city (2) mapping the existence and identification of nutmeg trees conditions and growing environment. This research was conducted Bogor City from February - May 2018. The data was obtained through direct interview, study field, and study literature. Data collection is determined based on the distribution of nutmeg trees in Bogor City, and extinct status based on study literature. Furtehermore, the existence of nutmeg trees in Bogor collected used purposive and snowball technique. The results showed that a total of 108 nutmeg trees were found in all sub-districts of Bogor city. These trees grow in a variety of areas such as green corridor, public park, agriculture farm, riverbanks, yard, office park, and cemetery. The results of this study can be used as the basis for determining the preservation strategy and area for nutmeg conservation in Bogor city.

Conventional metrics for predicting speech intelligibility are commonly described using the speech intelligibility index (SII) and speech transmission index (STI)--both of which are calculated using a monophonic signal. Under binaural conditions, these predictors often underestimate intelligibility due to the fact that beneficial binaural cues for unmasking detrimental effects are not accounted for. Beutelmann et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 127, 2479-2497 (2010)] proposed a binaural speech intelligibility model that determines the SII after suppressing spatially-separate noise using the equalization-cancellation (EC) process. This research expands on previous work by extending the model to analyze auditory scenes with more complex room acoustics, namely reverberation. In order to account for speech intelligibility degradation in the presence of room effects, the SII calculation is replaced by the STI. The current work also incorporates binaural release from reverberation by introducing an additional reverberation suppression mechanism into the model based on interaural coherence. The use of speech intelligibility metrics as an objective form of measurement may be used as a means to further understand binaural suppression processes within various room acoustic configurations through subjective listening tests.

The present paper focuses on the effect of air jets through a perforated thin plate on the characteristics of an acoustic absorption coefficient. We measured the flow rate, internal pressure, acoustic pressure, and transfer function by using an improved acoustic impedance tube. The normal incidence absorption coefficient was calculated from the measured transfer function using transfer function methods. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the acoustic absorption coefficient against the frequency showed a maximum value at the local frequency. The peak frequency of the acoustic absorption coefficient depended on the thickness of the background air space and the thickness of the perforated plate. As the flow rate increased through the micropores, the peak level of the acoustic absorption coefficient also increased until a flow rate of 80?l /min. As the flow rate further increased, the peak level of the acoustic absorption coefficient decreased and that of the high frequency band increased.
