The study of performance assessment based on problem based learning not only done in the field of technical vocational education but also in the health education, economic education, environmental education. The development of performance assessment based on problem based learning is still rare in vocational schools. Using 2013 curriculum which is required to use 21st century learning strategies, one of which is Problem Based Learning (PBL). Performance assessment is said by its advocators to be more in line with instruction than multiple-choice tests. Performance assessment is seen as having a better possibility of measuring more complex skills and communication. This article aims to design based performance assessment based on problem based learning using design based research method. The validation used in this article is expert judgement. The result of the study revealed that the cronbach alpha valu for the entire measurment scale was 0.97. The cronbach alpha value is between 0.8 to 1.00. Therefore , design performance assessment based on problem based learning has a good reability. This article aims to find out how to design performance assessment based on problem based learning for students geomatics engineering. This article provide an overview of the development of design performance assessment based on problem based learning for vocational students.

Investigations on acoustical coupling within single-space monumental structures using a diffusion equation model

Sound energy distributions and flows within single-space rooms can be exploited to understand the occurrence of multi-slope decays. In this work, a real-size monumental worship space is selected for investigations of non-exponential sound energy decays. Previous field tests in this single-space venue indicate multi-slope formation within such a large volume and the multiple-dome upper structure layout. In order to illuminate/reveal the probable reasons of non-exponential sound energy decays within such an architectural venue, sound energy distributions and energy flows are investigated. Due to its computational efficiency and advantages in spatial energy density and flow vector analysis, a diffusion equation model (DEM) is applied for modeling sound field of the monumental worship space. Preliminary studies indicate good agreement for overall energy decay time estimations among experimental field and DEM results. The energy flow vector and energy distribution analysis indicate the upper central dome-structure to be the potential energy accumulation/ concentration zone, contributing to the later energy decays.

Multiple-slope sound energy decay investigations in single space enclosures with specific geometrical and material attributes

Acoustical coupling until now has basically been studied to define the peculiar sound field within acoustically coupled enclosures in which multiple-slope energy decays can often be observed. The key concern of this study is to reveal the potential of multiple-slope energy decay formation in over-size single space structures with particular geometry and distribution of materials in different acoustical performance characteristics. Specifically, multiple dome superstructures, composed of one central dome supported by semi-domes and transitional elements, are selected for the case studies. The interpretation of the acquired data is carried in order to broaden the definition of “the coupled volume system” with an emphasis on invisible sources and apertures of acoustical coupling in a “single volume system.” The methodology of the research involves joint use of in-situ acoustical measurements, acoustical modeling/simulation methods, and computational analyses. Bayesian analysis approach is applied in quantifying multiple-slope decay parameters. Initial results for selected cases indicate double and triple slopes for field tests and even more slope natures for simulations at various frequency bands. Future work aims to elaborate the mechanism of multiple-slope decay occurrence by energy feedback and distribution analysis.

Topside design of warships: A 100 year perspective

From 1976 to 1987 he served in a variety of senior Washington positions: aircrafi carrier (CW) ship design manager Director NVSEC's 450 man Hull Division Director NAVSEC Ship Design Division Commander of the 3000 man David Taylor Research Center (now NSWC CD) and a second three year tour as Director NAVSEA Ship Design Group. He was professor of Navad Construction and Engineering at MIT for three years. While on active duty he received numerous personal decorations including two awarad of the Legion of Merit. Currently he is the Chief Systems Engineer for John J. McMullan Assoc. the country's largest naval architecture and marine engineering company. Since 1986 he has published twelve Papers on naval ship technology design and acquisition. He is a member of SNAME's Ship Design Committee an Overseas Fellow of RINA lectures at the NAVSEA Institute and DSMC and remains on the MIT faculty as a senior lecturer. Neil T. Baron:Mr. Baron is a graduate of Marquette University. He provided senior systems engineering support to ship and system design programs including MCM-1 MHC-51 LHD-5 and headed the the Topside Design branch under the Weapons Systems Directorate at the Naval Sea Systems Command. The Topside Design branch is involved in all new construction and active fleet upgrade programs related to antennas/weapon systems/ship architecture systems engineering integration. Mr. Baron has been instrumental in forwarding the “Topside Vision” for the Navy and currently supports OPNAV and senior NAVSEA steering groups in the development of topside technologies and their application to ship and system acquistion programs. Mr. Baron was recently assigned as technology director for the Warfare Systems Engineering Directorate at NAVSEA and is currently acting as the deputy director for the Navy Afloat Y2K Test Program. The warship design process requires competition, compromise, and iteration. This is as true today as it was when David Taylor was a young officer in the Construction Corps at the turn of the century when the U.S. was struggling to develop a world class navy. The naval architects and ordnance engineers of his day wrestled over topside arrangements much as do their current counterparts. They tried to anticipate future threats, and they worried about cost because they were in an arm's race. These were total ship engineering issues, although the phrase had not yet been coined. What is different today! It is tempting to say that the short answer is technology. And, more importantly, the rate of change. Yet, an objective appraisal of David Taylor's era tells us that they too experienced an explosion in technology. Just the years 1900-1910 alone saw the introduction of dreadnought battleships, submarines, and aircraft. We are still trying to grapple with the implications of the last two warfare systems. History tells us that our predecessors got it right more often than wrong. Why? Because they recognized the need to change the way they did business in the face of new technologies and new threats.

He received his B.S. degree in naval architecture from the University of Michigan in 1970. In 1972 he was selected for the NAVSEC Hull Division's Long Term Training Program at the University of Michigan and received his M. S. E. degree in naval architecture in 1973. Additionally he has done graduate work in computer science at The Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Carlson began his career with the Naval Ship Engineering Center in 1970 where he worked in the Ship Arrangements Branch. While in ship arrangements he was task leader for the PGG PCG PHM and MCM ship designs. In addition he was project engineer for shipboard stowage ship space classification system and ship standard nomenclature. He was technical manager of the CASDAC arrangement subsystem and the CASDAC hull design system. In 1982 he joined what is now the Computer Aided Engineering Division. Currently he is the manager for the computer supported design version XX system. Besides ASNE which he joined in 1972 he is a member of SNA ME and the U.S. Naval Institute. Howard Fireman:is a naval architect in the Ship Arrangements Design Division (SEA-55W1). He received his B. S. E. degree in naval architecture from the University of Michigan in 1979. In 1983 he was selected for NavSea's Long Term Training Program at the University of Michigan and received his M. S. E. degree in naval architecture with a specialization in ship production and computer aided ship design in 1985. Mr. Fireman began his career with the Naval Ship Engineering Center in 1977 as an engineering cooperative student. Since graduating from the NavSea EIT program he has worked in the Ship Arrangements Design Division. He was task leader for the AOE-6 AE-36 T-AH ARS-SO and SWATH T-AGOS ship designs. The ever increasing complexity of ships coupled with cost, schedule, and resource constraints require innovative methods by the Naval Sea Systems Command's ship design community to meet this challenge. This paper describes the effort by the NavSea Ship Arrangement Design Division to dramatically improve its ship design capability by the use of a system of computer-based design tools called the General Arrangement Design System. The General Arrangement Design System (GADS) is based on the engineering requirements of the ship arrangement design process. GADS is currently being used as a production engineering tool. This paper is organized into two parts. Part I describes the General Arrangement Design System, and Part II describes the general arrangement design methodology.

Phase change materials (PCM) for building envelope applications: A review of numerical models

Phase Change Materials (PCM) present a great potential for energy efficiency gains in thermal systems, e.g. by storing solar energy in buildings or heat loads in industrial processes. This is because a great amount of energy can be stored per mass unit within a small temperature range. Significant applications of this peculiar characteristic of PCM regard the effective adoption of macro-encapsulated PCM into building envelopes. Several studies on this topic tend to be limited to a sort of “material selections” on PCM and a lack of systematic analysis has consequently emerged. In order to guarantee an effective use coupled with economic feasibility, a deep understanding of the phase transition phenomenon is needed. The study of PCM using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is documented in several works, in accordance with the current trend of CFD to become increasingly widespread. Numerical studies on solidification and melting processes use a combination of formulations to describe the physical phenomena related to such processes, mainly the latent heat and the velocity transition between the liquid and the solid phases. The methods used to describe the latent heat are divided in three main groups: (i) source term methods (E-STM), (ii) temperature transforming models (E-TTM) and (iii) enthalpy methods (E-EM). The description of the velocity transition is in turn divided in three main groups: (i) switch-off method (SOM), (ii) source term method (STM) and (iii) variable viscosity method (VVM). In this context, the main objective of the present paper is to review the numerical approaches used to describe solidification and melting processes.

Physics is a lessons that related to students’ daily experience. Therefore, before the students studying in class formally, actually they have already have a visualization and prior knowledge about natural phenomenon and could wide it themselves. The learning process in class should be aimed to detect, process, construct, and use students’ mental model. So, students’ mental model agree with and builds in the right concept. The previous study held in MAN 1 Muna informs that in learning process the teacher did not pay attention students’ mental model. As a consequence, the learning process has not tried to build students’ mental modelling ability (MMA). The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement of students’ MMA as a effect of problem solving based learning model with multiple representations approach. This study is pre experimental design with one group pre post. It is conducted in XI IPA MAN 1 Muna 2016/2017. Data collection uses problem solving test concept the kinetic theory of gasses and interview to get students’ MMA. Suppose you receive a sequence of qubits where each qubit is guaranteed to be in one of two pure states, but you do not know what those states are. Your task is to either determine the states or to construct a POVM (Positive Operator Valued Measure) that will discriminate them. This can be viewed as a quantum analog of unsupervised learning. A problem is that without more information, all that can be determined is the density matrix of the sequence, and, in general, density matrices can be decomposed into pure states in many different ways. To solve the problem additional information, either classical or quantum, is required. We show that if an additional copy of each qubit is supplied, that is, one receives pairs of qubits, both in the same state, rather than single qubits, the task can be accomplished. We then simulate numerically the measurement of a sequence of qubit pairs and show that the unknown states and their respective probabilities of occurrence can be found with high accuracy. Visitor perspectives and satisfaction index towards ecotourism potential in the Leang-Leang Prehistoric Park, Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park

The Leang-Leang prehistoric park is one of four leading destinations in Bantimurung Bulusarung National Park, however, the evaluation of visitor perspectives and satisfaction index in this site were still limited. This study aimed to analyze the importance-performance analysis based on visitor perspectives and to assess visitor satisfaction index in the Leang-Leang destination. Fifty people selected through convenience sampling method were involved as respondents. Consumer perspective assessment was focused on 33 ecotourism potential subcomponents and the scoring method referred to Likert scale, prior to group into the IPA matrix/Cartesian diagram. The visitor satisfaction assessment was calculated based on the formula of customer satisfaction index. The result showed that there were 7 ecotourism potential subcomponents that need to be prioritized by managerial team, i.e local cultural arts, guide and interpreter, public lavatory, garbage dump, rest area, security facility (tourist police) and shopping facility. Flora attraction, panorama, specific attraction, historical heritage, hospitality of local people, the easiness access to locations, the easiness access to get information about the distance from the nearest city, brochures, maps or other directions, clean water availability, service, care and skill of human resource had been already in the good condition, so keep up the good work. Fauna attraction, local traditions and customs, festival, carvings and crafts, local food, homestay, hotel, camping ground, the easiness access to get transportation, telephone, faximile or internet and health facility were included in low priority subcomponents. Moreover, cultural landscape, local people daily life and transportation costs were categorized as possible overkill subcomponent. The score of visitor satisfaction index was 55.57 and categorized as a moderate satisfaction level.

Sisson USN (RET.) is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received his degree of Master of Science in Naval Architecture from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. From 1964 to 1969 he was the Planning & Estimating Superintendent at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. From 1969 to 1976 he was the Director Naval Shipyard Management Systems Division Naval Sea Systems Command during which period he initiated the development of the improved Shipyard MIS. From December 1976 until his retirement from the Navy on 1 July 1978 he was the Manager Naval Shipyard Management Information System Improvement Program Naval Sea Systems Command. He joined the staff at ORI Inc. Silver Spring Md. in September 1978 and is a member of SNAME and the Society for Management Information Systems.

The standard Naval Shipyard Management Information System (Shipyard MIS) in use at the eight United States Naval Shipyards is a computer‐based system that processes data related to virtually every element of naval shipyard operations. It has had almost thirteen years of operation constantly growing and improving along the way. In early 1976 a major improvement program was initiated to modernize this batch processing oriented system to meet the needs of management for information in a more responsive manner. Some of the products of this improvement program offer the potential to shipyard managers for improving productivity. This paper describes some of these products and the challenges to shipyard management to utilize them effectively such that improved performance or productivity and significant cost savings can be realized. © 1979 American Society of Naval Engineers
