Topside design of warships: A 100 year perspective

作者: Tibbitts, B Baron, N Captain Barry Tibbitts USN (Ret.):He received his education at the U.S. Naval Academy and MIT. He served five years at sea and eight years at shipyards. From 1976 to 1987 he served in a variety of senior Washington positions: aircrafi carrier (CW) ship design manager Director NVSEC's 450 man Hull Division Director NAVSEC Ship Design Division Commander of the 3000 man David Taylor Research Center (now NSWC CD) and a second three year tour as Director NAVSEA Ship Design Group. He was professor of Navad Construction and Engineering at MIT for three years. While on active duty he received numerous personal decorations including two awarad of the Legion of Merit. Currently he is the Chief Systems Engineer for John J. McMullan Assoc. the country's largest naval architecture and marine engineering company. Since 1986 he has published twelve Papers on naval ship technology design and acquisition. He is a member of SNAME's Ship Design Committee an Overseas Fellow of RINA lectures at the NAVSEA Institute and DSMC and remains on the MIT faculty as a senior lecturer. Neil T. Baron:Mr. Baron is a graduate of Marquette University. He provided senior systems engineering support to ship and system design programs including MCM-1 MHC-51 LHD-5 and headed the the Topside Design branch under the Weapons Systems Directorate at the Naval Sea Systems Command. The Topside Design branch is involved in all new construction and active fleet upgrade programs related to antennas/weapon systems/ship architecture systems engineering integration. Mr. Baron has been instrumental in forwarding the “Topside Vision” for the Navy and currently supports OPNAV and senior NAVSEA steering groups in the development of topside technologies and their application to ship and system acquistion programs. Mr. Baron was recently assigned as technology director for the Warfare Systems Engineering Directorate at NAVSEA and is currently acting as the deputy director for the Navy Afloat Y2K Test Program. 作者: CARLSON, CM FIREMAN, H Craig M. Carlson:is a general engineer in the Computer Aided Engineering Division (SEA-507). He received his B.S. degree in naval architecture from the University of Michigan in 1970. In 1972 he was selected for the NAVSEC Hull Division's Long Term Training Program at the University of Michigan and received his M. S. E. degree in naval architecture in 1973. Additionally he has done graduate work in computer science at The Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Carlson began his career with the Naval Ship Engineering Center in 1970 where he worked in the Ship Arrangements Branch. While in ship arrangements he was task leader for the PGG PCG PHM and MCM ship designs. In addition he was project engineer for shipboard stowage ship space classification system and ship standard nomenclature. He was technical manager of the CASDAC arrangement subsystem and the CASDAC hull design system. In 1982 he joined what is now the Computer Aided Engineering Division. Currently he is the manager for the computer supported design version XX system. Besides ASNE which he joined in 1972 he is a member of SNA ME and the U.S. Naval Institute. Howard Fireman:is a naval architect in the Ship Arrangements Design Division (SEA-55W1). He received his B. S. E. degree in naval architecture from the University of Michigan in 1979. In 1983 he was selected for NavSea's Long Term Training Program at the University of Michigan and received his M. S. E. degree in naval architecture with a specialization in ship production and computer aided ship design in 1985. Mr. Fireman began his career with the Naval Ship Engineering Center in 1977 as an engineering cooperative student. Since graduating from the NavSea EIT program he has worked in the Ship Arrangements Design Division. He was task leader for the AOE-6 AE-36 T-AH ARS-SO and SWATH T-AGOS ship designs. Sisson USN (RET.) is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received his degree of Master of Science in Naval Architecture from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. From 1964 to 1969 he was the Planning & Estimating Superintendent at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. From 1969 to 1976 he was the Director Naval Shipyard Management Systems Division Naval Sea Systems Command during which period he initiated the development of the improved Shipyard MIS. From December 1976 until his retirement from the Navy on 1 July 1978 he was the Manager Naval Shipyard Management Information System Improvement Program Naval Sea Systems Command.
