作者: NACHTSHEIM, JOHN J. MIEHE, F.W. WILSON, COMMANDER T. B. Mr. John J. Nachtsheim is Chief Naval Architect of the Hull Design Branch of the Bureau of Ships. Prior to this position he held the position of Deputy Chief Design Engineer at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and a Bachelor of Law degree from the George Washington University Law School. He was civilian project coordinator for the Hull Design Branch for the design of USS Enterprise CVA(N)65 and has been engaged in hull design for the Navy since 1948. Commander Frederick W. Miehe Jr. U. S. Navy is a student in the Navy Graduate Financial Management Program at The George Washington University. Prior to entering this program he was project officer for major combatant ships in the Machinery Design Branch Bureau of Ships. Earlier duty assignments include shipyards staff and shipboard engineering as well as a brief interlude flying blimps. He received the Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Naval Academy in 1943 and the Degree of Naval Engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949. Lieut. Commander Thomas B. Wilson Jr. U. S. Navy is project officer for aircraft carriers in the Hull Design Branch Bureau of Ships. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Naval Academy in 1948 and his Master of Science degree at Webb Institute of Naval Architecture in 1953. He has been concerned with the construction conversion repairing docking and operation of aircraft carriers since 1951.

作者: OREM, JB The authoris currently group technical director at Advanced Technology Inc. where he is engaged in system engineering and ship design programs. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951 he served in various surface assignments until attending MIT in 1955. Subsequent to becoming an engineering duty officer he served in naval shipyards afloat engineering ship design and fleet ship salvage billets. He directed the preliminary design of FFG-7 and later served as project technical director. Subsequent tours included duty as project manager nuclear cruiser acquisitions and assistant to the deputy under secretary of defense (acquisition). Upon retirement he joined Sun Shipbuilding and Dry dock Company serving as V. P. program management and V. P. engineering. His education includes a B. S. from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M. S. in naval architecture and marine engineering and a naval engineer's degree from MIT in 1958.

He is also a visiting scholar in the Civil Engineering Department at the University ofMaryland at Colkge Park. He is conducting research with Dc Bilal M. Ayyub in the area of develupment of reliability-based design of ship structures and systems. He is a member ofASNE and SNAME. He has authored or coauthored several papers and reports. Bilal M. Ayyub: Ph.D. RE. is aprofssor of civil engineer-ing at the University of Maryland at College Park. He is also a researcher and consultant in the areas of structural engineering inspection methods and practices reliability and risk analysis. Dc Ayyub completed his B.S. degree in civil engineering in 1980 and completed both his M.S. (1981) and Ph.D. (1983) degrees in civil engineering at the Georgia Institute of Echnol-OD. Dc Ayyub has an extensive background in uncertainty modeling and analysis risk-based analysis and design simula-ion and marine structural reliability. He is engaged in research work involving structural reliability marine structures uncer-tainty modeling and analysis and mathematical modeling using the theories of probability statistics and fuzzy sets. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1969 he is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer and designated Engineering Duty Officer (ED). He received his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and his professional degree of Ocean Engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and holds a patent right on an Electronic Control and Response System. His naval assignments include tours in USSRamsey (FFG-2) Aide and Flag Lieutenant to the Commander Naval Electronic Systems Command and Ship Superintendent Surface Type Desk Officer and Assistant Design Superintendent at NA VSHIPYD Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished performance at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. As an author he has contributed articles to the ASNEJournaland given presentations at local sections on ship design the use of innovative technology in ship repair and maintenance and the costs and risks associated with engineering progress. Commander Baskerville is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia an adjunct professor teaching marine engineering at Virginia Tech. and in addition to ASNE which he joined in 1975 is a member of SNAME Tau Beta Pi Sigma Xi ASME and the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Dr. Earl R. Quandt:received his degree of Chemical Engineer from the University of Cincinnati in 1956 and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961. Carlson received his B.S. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1970 and began his career with the Department of the Navy at the Naval Ship Engineering Center (NAVSEC). In 1972. he returned to the University of Michigan under the NAVSEC Long Term Training Program and received his M.S. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. After returning to the Ship Arrangements Branch at NAVSEC. he was assigned as Task Leader for General Arrangements for the PGG PCG PHM. and MCM ship designs and was awarded Outstanding Performance Awards in 1974 and 1975. In addition he was Manager of the Arrangement Subsystem of the Navy's Computer-Aided Ship Design and Construction Program (CASDAC). In October 1979. he became Manager of the CASDAC Hull Design System. Currently. he also is enrolled in the M.S. of Computer Science Program at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Carlson previously has presented technical papers at ASNE Day 1974 and 1978 as well as at the 1979 DOD Manufacturing Technology Advisory Group Conference. Besides ASNE. which he joined in 1972. he is a member of SNAME. ASE. and the U.S. Naval Institute. Mr. Robert A. Johnson is a Naval Architect in Surface Combatants Design (SEA 03D3). Ship Design Integration Directorate Naval Sea Systems Command. He received an Associate in Engineering degree in Drafting and Design Technology in 1959. his B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1965. and his M.S. degree in Engineering Mechanics in 1970. all from the Pennsylvania State University. LIVELY graduated from the University of Colorado with a BS in applied mathematics and an MS in mathematics in 1976 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an MS in electrical engineering and the degree ocean engineer in naval architecture and marine engineering in 1984. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1989 after 23 years of service. Assignments included electrical officer on the USS Constellation (CV 64) project engineer for the DDG 51 machinery control system (NAVSEA) and DDG 51 Technical Director (NAVSEA). He was vice president of the PDI Division of Bird-Johnson Company from July 1989 to November 1998 where he managed various gas turbine and machinery controls related development projects. He joined Anteon Corporation's Systems Engineering Group as senior controls engineer in December 1998 where he provided technical support to the integrated power systems program (NAVSEA PMS 510) and managed the Office of Naval Research Afloat Laboratory. DR. MARK KIRKPATRICK is currently an independent consultant in human factors and work-load/manning analysis and modeling. He holds a Ph.D. degree in experimental psychology from The Ohio State University and has 34 years of experience in applied human factors. From 1982 through 2000 Dr. Kirkpatrick served as the senior vice president of Carlow International.
