Aerogel is a material with unique nanoscale properties. In monolithic form aerogel is too costly to be practically used in acoustic applications. Recently a cost-effective technique for producing granular aerogel has been developed, but the acoustic properties of granulated aerogel were not well known. The normal incident acoustic absorption and attenuation of three configurations of granulated aerogel have been determined by means of the transfer function and the transmission matrix methods of measuring normal induct acoustic properties: using the granules as a loose fill, woven into glass fiber blankets, and bound into a solid plate with a poly-vinyl acetate binder. Measurements were conducted using a 64 m impedance tube, the design of which is also discussed.

The development of better User Interface (UI) and Tangible User Interface (TUI) for 3D modeling has lasted for decades. With the popularity of free form style achieved by algorithmic methods, the existing solutions of UI/TUI for CAD are gradually insufficient. Neglecting the steep learning curve of algorithmic design requiring solid background of mathematics and programming, the common drawback is the lack of interactivity. All actions rely heavily on mental translations and experimental trial and error. Even though a large variety of innovative façade technologies has been developed to refine the control of solar radiation and increase the amount of useful natural illumination, their effective implementation in buildings is still uncommon. Increasing the awareness of designers to their existence and facilitating an understanding of their potential thus appears as a priority. An important step in that direction is to make the search and selection process more intuitive. This paper proposes a way to address this issue with a new database format. It focuses on the generation of visual strategies to express technical aspects and performance data with a more intuitive and architecturally based language, adapted to a designer's needs and respectful of a realistic design process.
