The assessment of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is important for training as well as CPR related research to validate new method or to confirm efficacy of existing one. Infant CPR, in particular, has been received great attention due to its controversy over appropriateness of or superiority between two different methods, two-finger (TF) and two-thumb (TT) CPR, suggested by the resuscitation council. Accordingly, the development of assessment tool that is capable of reliably investigating different CPR techniques has become critical. One of the most challenging task in the infant CPR is to provide consistent and accurate finger placement throughout the performance. Here, we suggest a new method to measure accuracy of the finger placement for both TF and TT CPR using manikin-integrated digital measuring system developed in the previous study. Center of forces of force sensitive resistance sensors used for assessing different finger placements were measured in each compression and scattered on 2D plane to quantitatively and qualitatively probe the finger position. The appearance of the scattered data turned out to be significantly different depending on the performance capability. In the comparison between beginners and experts, stdY and meanDist were significant parameters differentiating these two groups for both techniques, meaning beginners are poor at providing consistent forces along y direction and targeting a specific region while relatively good at balancing in x direction.

This work aims to analyze the relation between the movement of an anthropomorphic robotic manipulator with the brain cortex response elicited in healthy subjects for three experimental conditions. The experiment was divided in three parts: in the first one, the subject only observes the movement of the robotic manipulator; in the second part, the subject follows the robot movement with his right arm; finally, in the third part, the subject imagines the execution of the corresponding movement synchronized with the movement of the robot. Event related (de)synchronization in each of the recorded electroencephalogram (EEG) channels was analyzed. Event related desyn-chronization was present in alpha and beta bands in various areas of the cortex, including occipital, parietal, central and prefrontal areas. The results provided some physiological insights into human-robot interaction for future developments in brain-machine interfaces.

The computation of relaxation time from quantitative magnetic resonance (MR) imaging depends on the applied algorithms. The purpose of this project was to use the algebraic curve fitting algorithm to quantify T2 mapping of knee articular cartilage for T2 relaxation time calculation. The T2 images of a healthy male volunteer's right knee tibiofemoral joint cartilage were generated by a 3T MR imaging scanner using a spin echo multislice multiecho (MSME) Carr-Purcell Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) sequence. The medial and lateral condyle cartilage regions were further subdivided into three compartments - anterior, middle and posterior for identifying T2 values variation in between them. The T2 relaxation time mean and standard deviation in each region of interest (ROI) was calculated using the algebraic fitting algorithm and compared with conventional nonlinear algorithms. The results show that the algebraic fitting algorithm is feasible for T2 relaxation time calculation of knee tibiofemoral condyle cartilage. It is not only clear but also sensitive to T2 MR imaging of knee articular cartilage.
