This paper presents a novel algorithm for reachability analysis of nonlinear discrete-time systems. The proposed method combines constrained zonotopes (CZs) with polyhedral relaxations of factorable representations of nonlinear functions to propagate CZs through nonlinear functions, which is normally done using conservative linearization techniques. The new propagation method provides better approximations than those resulting from linearization procedures, leading to significant improvements in the computation of reachable sets in comparison to other CZ methods from the literature. Avobenzone (AVO) is a sunscreen with high global production and is constantly released into the environment. Incorporating sewage biosolids for fertilization purposes, the leaching from cultivated soils, and the use of wastewater for irrigation explain its presence in the soil. There is a lack of information about the impact of this sunscreen on plants. In the present study, the ecotoxicity of AVO was tested at concentrations 1, 10, 100, and 1,000 ng/L. All concentrations caused a reduction in root growth of Allium cepa, Cucumis sativus, and Lycopersicum esculentum seeds, as well as a mitodepressive effect, changes in the mitotic spindle and a reduction in root growth of A. cepa bulbs. The cell cycle was disturbed because AVO disarmed the enzymatic defense system of root meristems, leading to an accumulation of hydroxyl radicals and superoxides, besides lipid peroxidation in cells. Therefore, AVO shows a high potential to cause damage to plants and can negatively affect agricultural production and the growth of non-cultivated plants. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This study examines the effects of germination induced by natural elicitors on the bioactive properties of phenolic compounds in Trigonella foenum-graecum L. (fenugreek) seeds. Extracts from ungerminated seeds (FG7) and germinated seeds treated with deionized water (FG1[SGA]) or Aloe vera gel (FG2[SGB]) were analyzed using pressurized propane extraction (4 MPa, 333.0 K). Germinated extracts (FG1, FG2) showed enhanced lipid profiles, higher linoleic and linolenic acid levels, a 1.54-fold increase in β-carotene, and elevated antioxidant capacity. Mixed extracts (FG3-FG6) displayed intermediate improvements, including increased phytosterols and antioxidant activity (1.90-fold). Extracts FG5 and FG6 demonstrated significant anti-hyperglycemic effects and potent inhibition of colorectal and cervical cancer cells. This study concludes that germination enhances bioactive compound concentrations, while mixed extracts optimize yield and bioactivity, providing promising potential for anti-tumor and anti-diabetic applications. © 2025, The Authors. Propylparaben (PrP) and dichloropropylparaben (diClPrP) are found in soil worldwide, mainly due to the incorporation of urban sludge in crop soils and the use of non-raw wastewater for irrigation. Studies on the adverse effects of PrP on plants are incipient and not found for diClPrP. PrP and diClPrP were evaluated at concentrations 4, 40, and 400 µg/L for their phytotoxic potential to seeds of Allium cepa (onion), Cucumis sativus (cucumber), Lycopersicum sculentum (tomato), and Lactuca sativa (lettuce), and cytotoxic, genotoxic potential, and for generating oxygen-reactive substances in root meristems of A. cepa bulbs. PrP and diClPrP caused a significant reduction in seed root elongation in all four species. In A. cepa bulb roots, PrP and diClPrP resulted in a high prophase index;in addition, PrP at 400 µg/L and diClPrP at the three concentrations significantly decreased cell proliferation and caused alterations in a significant number of cells. Furthermore, diClPrP concentrations induced the development of hooked roots in onion bulbs. The two chemical compounds caused significant changes in the modulation of catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase, disarming the root meristems against hydroxyl radicals and superoxides. Therefore, PrP and diClPrP were phytotoxic and cytogenotoxic to the species tested, proving dangerous to plants. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Brazil has a wide variety of fruits that remain insufficiently *** encourage the use of one such fruit,the bacupari((Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.)),the current study produced flours from its by-products(the peel and seed)at two maturation stages and subsequently evaluated their proximate composition,physical,antioxidant,bioactive,microstructural and thermal *** results revealed that the flours have a high in fiber content(>15%)and are a potential source of protein(>5%).Seed flour has an energy value similar to that of wheat flour and other conventional *** flour micrographs indicate the presence of starch,a fact confirmed by viscosity *** flours contain phenolic compounds and exhibit antioxidant activity,especially the unripe peel *** the compounds identified by chromatography,those present in the greatest concentrations were quinine(≅111μg/g),p-coumaric acid(≅25μg/g),m-coumaric acid(≅15μg/g),and formononetin(≅21μg/g),all of which are known to have several human health *** flour crystallinity diminished as the fruit *** flour exhibited similar thermal transitions but less thermal stability than seed *** summary,this study revealed that flours produced from the peel and seeds of bacupari,which are generated in large quantities as agro-industrial by-products,can be used as alternative ingredients in various sectors of the food industry.

This study investigates the influence of waste characteristics,especially zeta potential,on the properties of cement pastes and *** focus is to evaluate the impact of the zeta potential of cement particles and waste materials on the sedimentation speed,rheology,and hardening time of stabilized cement *** Cement II F 40,retarder additive,silica,and fly ash were used in the *** pastes were prepared,and during the stabilization period,their rheological properties and pH were *** zeta potential and sedimentation speed of the cement and waste particles were measured at the pH that the pastes presented during the entire stabilization *** the stabilization period,the pastes were subjected to the hardening time *** zeta potential analyses revealed diverse values for the different powder types,with the cement particles exhibiting a zeta potential of−3.0 mV,the silica particles exhibiting−10.5 mV,and the fly ash particles exhibiting−20.3 *** influence of the high zeta potential modulus was observed on the sedimentation speed,with the solution containing fly ash exhibiting a speed of 40.01μm/s,whereas the solution containing only cement exhibited a speed of 99.38μm/*** the pastes,the results indicate that the presence of fly ash particles with a significantly negative zeta potential led to a 16%reduction in hardening time compared to particles with a lower modulus of zeta *** tests showed that the inclusion of fly ash particles prevented the formation of *** the zeta potential influenced agglomerate formation and hardening time,it was found to have no effect on yield stress or viscosity.

Analysis of the Most Likely Regions of Stability of an NCS and Design of the Corresponding Event-driven Controller

In this paper, some issues related to design and analysis of real networked control systems （NCS） under the focus of the most likely region of stability are addressed. Such a system is cumbersome due to its inherent variable time delays, ranging from microseconds to hours. To show the influence of such huge variations in the control performance, a laboratory-scale luminosity system has been setup using the Internet as part of the control loop with dominant time constant in the order of milliseconds. Proportional and integral （PI） control strategies with and without explicit compensation for the time-delay variations were implemented using an event-driven controller. Using the well-known Monte Carlo method and subsequent analyses of time responses, it has been possible to identify the most likely region of stability. Some experimental results show the influence of the statistical parameters of the delays on the determination of the most likely regions of stability of the NCS and how these can be used in assessment and redesign of the control system. The experiments show that much larger delays than one sample period can be supported by real NCSs without becoming unstable.

In recent decades, global warming has intensified temperature changes, placing substantial pressure on organism survival. Understanding how temperature variations impact development and behavior is crucial for conservation strategies. This study examined how temperature affects zebrafish embryo development and behavior, focusing on mRNA expression changes under thermal challenges. Zebrafish embryos were reared at 27 °C (control), 22 °C, and 30 °C, monitored from 24 to 120 hpf for structural development, and tested for optomotor responses at 7 dpf. Juvenile (30 dpf) and adult (90 dpf) fish reared at 27 °C were subjected to acute temperature shifts (22 °C and 30 °C for 2 h), followed by behavioral assessments and brain sampling for hsp90a and hspb1 mRNA expression analysis. Survival rates were significantly lower at 22 °C, with higher hatching rates at 30 °C but decreased at 22 °C. Developmental abnormalities varied: head malformations were more common at 30 °C, pericardial and yolk sac edema at 22 °C, and tail malformations at both extremes. Optomotor responses were impaired in fish from 22 °C. Social and aggressive behaviors were mostly unaffected, but fish from extreme temperatures showed increased risk-taking and reduced response to alarm substances. hsp90a mRNA expression was elevated in fish raised at 30 °C and those exposed to the 30 °C challenge, while hspb1 mRNA expression remained stable across temperatures. Cooling environments detrimentally affected embryo growth and survival, while warmer conditions induced pronounced growth defects. Elevated temperatures posed greater risks, triggering heightened hsp90a expression crucial for stress adaptation. Understanding thermal variation impacts on embryo development is crucial for mitigating climate change effects on species' viability and reproduction. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The rapid evolution and complexity of medical-hospital equipment (EMH), as well as the appearance of adverse events that had not occurred until then, resulted, in the United States, in the emergence of the area of activity called Clinical engineering (CE). In Brazil, although the profession does not have its proper recognition and regulation, the need for a qualified and designated professional to manage health technologies, within a Health Care Facility (EAS), has been increasingly evident. To manage these technologies, in addition to being mandatory, is the responsibility of each Hospital, requiring dedication and control. The use of computerized systems (SI), aiming at successful management of health technologies, including the preparation of inventories and control of technical intervention events (e.g., maintenance), has been consolidated. Despite having available in the market diversified software intended for the realization of maintenance management, notoriously, the foundation, structuring and functionality of these, are convergent. The present work aimed to list, through bibliographic references, parameters and essential functions, which should make up an SI for the management of EMH, applied in the Departments of CE in Hospital Units. Thus, through the study carried out, it was observed that a software for this purpose can be divided into four main modules: Module of registrations, EMH inventory, service orders (maintenance) and, reports/indicators. Finally, given the functionalities identified in the analyzed SI, it is suggested to conduct new studies related to the incorporation of specific tools and functionalities, aimed at CE in Brazil. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
