Sustainability of the Water Footprint of Various Soil Types on Oil Palm Plantations

There are significant studies that have quantified oil palm water footprint as an indicator of environmental sustainability but an estimation of water footprint under varying soil types furthermore is still limited. The objectives of the study were to estimate whether annual variations of soil type and yields significantly effects for the oil palm water footprint. The data from three types of soil (spodosol, inceptisol, ultisol) were collected from an oil palm plantation in Pundu village, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. To perform the water footprint analysis we utilize water balance accounting equations via application Cropwat 8.0. From that, we determine the crop irrigation scheduling to compute the blue, green, and grey water footprint of oil palm fresh fruit bunch in the area. Our analysis found that the actual evapotranspiration of spodosol and inceptisol have the same value: 1242 mm/year whilst ultisol is 1239 mm/year. The total water footprint of oil palm varied considerably with the largest value being 1310.04 m3/ton for ultisol. The actual evapotranspiration of spodosol and inceptisol have the same value of 1242 mm/year whilst ultisol is 1239 mm/year. The higher production resulted in a lower water footprint and vice versa. Moreover, the total water footprint from ultisol soil type has the highest value due to the lowest yields. The difference in evapotranspiration value resulted in the insignificant value of total water footprint. The lower water availability, the lower water use, and the higher actual irrigation requirement in oil palm plantation yet showed the unnotable impact on water footprint in different soil types for the oil palm plantation.

A rapid,precise method for identifying waterborne pathogens is critically needed for effective disinfection and better ***,conventional methods,such as culture-based counting,generally suffer from slow detection times and low ***,we developed a rapid detection method for tracing waterborne pathogens by an innovative optofluidic platform,a plasmonic bacteria on a nanoporous mirror,that allows effective hydrodynamic cell trapping,enrichment of pathogens,and optical signal *** designed and simulated the integrated optofluidic platform to maximize the enrichment of the bacteria and to align bacteria on the nanopores and plasmonic mirror via hydrodynamic cell *** nanoparticles are self-assembled to form antenna arrays on the surface of bacteria,such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa,by replacing citrate with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in order to amplify the signal of the plasmonic optical *** to the synergistic contributions of focused light via the nanopore geometry,self-assembled nanoplasmonic optical antennas on the surface of bacteria,and plasmonic mirror,we obtain a sensitivity of detecting *** as low as 102 cells/ml via surface-enhanced Raman *** believe that our label-free strategy via an integrated optofluidic platform will pave the way for the rapid,precise identification of various pathogens.

In this paper, the response of the fiber Bragg gratings applied to vibration control of a prototype building structure is analysed. The dynamic vibration control is based on the pendulum neutralizer without damping. The primary and compound system responses were obtained using finite element method and experimentally. These analyses were performed without and with pendulum neutralizer. The tests results are in qualitative accordance with the theory. This study validates the effectiveness of the vibration measurements from the fiber Bragg gratings combined with vibrations control in low frequencies, encouraging future applications.

Document management system makes user to access information anytime and anywhere. Climate anomalies are considered as an important factor closely related to many disasters causing many human losses, such as airline crash, wildfires, drought and flooding in many areas. Many researchers have projected that the rising global temperature will increase the draught, especially in the mid-latitude areas. Taking those problems into account, studies on anomaly detection in climate are crucial. While climate prediction aims to analyze and model regular pattern of climate, climate anomaly studies aim to model climate deviation from its previous general patterns. Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) is a method employed in this research because it has been proven to work effectively in several anomaly detection studies, especially for data with similar characteristics. This paper presents empirical results of using Basic LSTM, Densely Connected (DC) LSTM, and Stacked-DC LSTM models to detect temperature anomaly as a manifestation of climate change in Semarang City. The results show that Stacked DC LSTM produced higher accuracy in detecting anomaly than the other two methods. © 2020 computer Society of the Republic of China. All rights reserved.

Integrated constructive and virtual simulations are becoming popular for tactical training in the military domain. An important aspect concerning the integration of these simulation models in the construction of virtual tactical simulations is the modelling and implementation of different kinds of semi-autonomous agents. A fundamental feature of these agents is the capability of intelligently and realistically modelling task-oriented navigation activities in large virtual terrain simulation environments, while following underlying military doctrine and tactics. This paper reviews important navigation issues that emerge in such simulation systems and prominent Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques that have been explored to solve them. From this analysis, a hybrid, semi-autonomous navigation framework is proposed aiming to fulfil the needs of virtual tactical training simulations, more specifically, in the military domain. As implemented in a system for the virtual tactical simulation of artillery battery tasks, the framework shows how to overcome the challenges of implementing realistic global and local navigation behaviours for military units and, at the same time, it shows that the semi-autonomous behaviours implemented are of primary importance to allow interaction with users for learning purposes in the simulation exercises. Weeds are one of the organisms that interfere with plant growth. Information about the identity of weeds becomes very important on plantations. Although weeds data digitization has been done a lot, currently there is still not much weeds data information system can be accessed online. Weeds management is often dealt with weeds herbarium or weeds photographs. In an effort to provide a good information system for farmers, this research aims to create a database of various types of weeds and an information system that can be accessed online. The methodology for developing a weed catalog information system uses the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Weed samples in database were collected through systematic random sampling in the form of images and text. The result of this study is a Weeds Electronic Catalog or Weeds e-Catalog that can facilitate the information of weeds identity such as names, classifications, morphology, life cycles, and habitats of various types of weeds that grow on plantation land. Weeds e-Catalog can be used by plantation practitioners and farmers to make decisions in controlling weeds.

The development of natural language processing algorithms and the explosive growth of conversational data are encouraging researches on the human-computer conversation. Still, getting qualified conversational data on a large scale is difficult and expensive. In this paper, we verify the feasibility of constructing a data-driven chatbot with processed online community posts by using them as pseudo-conversational data. We argue that chatbots for various purposes can be built extensively through the pipeline exploiting the common structure of community posts. Our experiment demonstrates that chatbots created along the pipeline can yield the proper responses. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Currently, the growth of information and technology is rapid. It makes a lot of things in various fields including education becoming more effective and efficient. In education, one of its implementation which is a game is proven to be a useful tool to support conventional teaching methods and bring a more natural understanding of learning materials. Moreover, as a product of the popular culture in modern society, video game mirrors the general culture practice in real life and reflects it via its own culture inside the game. This makes a video game can give a contribution to the social construction of reality as it affects the player's view towards learning in real life and vice versa. From there, we see that there is an opportunity for learning about religion to be supported by its utilization to provide an interactive and fun learning experience. In this paper, we discuss how a video game is implemented to support religious learning. The game was developed with the scrum method where we surveyed to gather the user requirements before the design step. The game design was made by using the use case diagram and storyboard, and it was built using Unity version 2017.3.0f3. © 2019 IEEE.
