Signatures of electronic nematicity in (111) LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interfaces

The two-dimensional conducting gas (2DCG) that forms at the interface between LaAlO3 (LAO) and SrTiO3 (STO) has been widely studied due to the multitude of in situ tunable phenomena that exist at the interface. Recently it has been shown that nearly every property of the 2DEG that forms at the interface of (111) oriented LAO/STO is strongly anisotropic with respect to the in-plane crystal direction. This in-plane rotational symmetry breaking points to the existence of an electronic nematic phase at the interface that can be modified by an in situ electrostatic back-gate potential. Here we show that the onset temperature of the anisotropy in the longitudinal resistance is T≈22K, which does not match up with any known structural transition, and coincides with the onset of anisotropy in the Hall response of the system. Furthermore, below 22 K, charge transport is activated in nature with different activation energies along the two in-plane crystal directions. Such a response implies that the band edges along the two directions are different and provides further evidence of an electronic nematic state at the interface.

In this paper the vibration analysis of a cantilever beam with viscoelastic neutralizer using fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) is presented. The optimal design, of the neutralizer, is achieved through a robust methodology developed by the Research Group on Vibrations and Sound in Mechanical Systems (GVIBS) at Federal University of Parana (UFPR). Such methodology uses the Finite Element Method (FEM) to obtain the modal analysis of the system that will be controlled. The Generalized Equivalent Parameters (GEP) and Nonlinear Optimization Techniques (NLOT) are applied. The viscoelastic neutralizer was projected to control the range of frequency 250 Hz to 470 Hz. To verify the efficiency of the neutralizer the response of the FBG was compared with the response of the piezoelectric accelerometer. Both systems were positioned close to the clamped part of the beam. The analysis presents the efficiency of the viscoelastic neutralizer, proven by decrease of amplitude for the analyzed range when using the optical technique (25 dB) and traditional sensor (32 dB). This study allows validating the effectiveness of the vibration measurements of the FBG to the viscoelastic neutralizers projects. © 2017 IEEE.

Non-invasive assessment of cognitive importance has been a major challenge for planning of neurosurgical procedures. In the past decade, in vivo brain imaging modalities have been considered for estimating the 'eloquence' of brain areas. In order to estimate the impact of damage caused by an access path towards a target region inside of the skull, multi-modal metrics are introduced in this paper. Accordingly, this estimated damage is obtained by combining multi-modal metrics. In other words, this damage is an aggregate of intervened grey matter volume and axonal fibre numbers, weighted by their importance within the assigned anatomical and functional networks. To validate these metrics, an exhaustive search algorithm is implemented for characterising the solution space and visually representing connectional cost associated with a path initiated from underlying points. In this presentation, brain networks are built from resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and deterministic tractography. their results demonstrate that the proposed approach is capable of refining traditional heuristics, such as choosing the minimal distance from the lesion, by supplementing connectional importance of the resected tissue. This provides complementary information to help the surgeon in avoiding important functional hubs and their anatomical linkages;which are derived from neuroimaging modalities and incorporated to the related anatomical landmarks.

This paper introduces a fast algorithm for simultaneous inversion and determinant computation of small sized matrices in the context of fully Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) image processing and analysis. The proposed fast algorithm is based on the computation of the adjoint matrix and the symmetry of the input matrix. The algorithm is implemented in a general purpose graphical processing unit (GPGPU) and compared to the usual approach based on Cholesky factorization. The assessment with simulated observations and data from an actual PolSAR sensor show a speedup factor of about two when compared to the usual Cholesky factorization. Geometric Methods for Robust Data Analysis in High Dimension

Data-driven applications are growing. Machine learning and data analysis now finds both scientific and industrial application in biology, chemistry, geology, medicine, and physics. These applications rely on large quantities of data gathered from automated sensors and user input. Furthermore, the dimensionality of many datasets is extreme: more details are being gathered about single user interactions or sensor readings. All of these applications encounter problems with a common theme: use observed data to make inferences about the world. Our work obtains the first provably efficient algorithms for Independent Component Analysis (ICA) in the presence of heavy-tailed data. The main tool in this result is the centroid body (a well-known topic in convex geometry), along with optimization and random walks for sampling from a convex body. This is the first algorithmic use of the centroid body and it is of independent theoretical interest, since it effectively replaces the estimation of covariance from samples, and is more generally accessible. We demonstrate that ICA is itself a powerful geometric primitive. That is, having access to an efficient algorithm for ICA enables us to efficiently solve other important problems in machine learning. The first such reduction is a solution to the open problem of efficiently learning the intersection of n + 1 halfspaces in Rn, posed in [43]. This reduction relies on a non-linear transformation of samples from such an intersection of halfspaces (i.e. a simplex) to samples which are approximately from a linearly transformed product distribution. Through this transformation of samples, which can be done efficiently, one can then use an ICA algorithm to recover the vertices of the intersection of halfspaces. Finally, we again use ICA as an algorithmic primitive to construct an efficient solution to the widely-studied problem of learning the parameters of a Gaussian mixture model. Errors in data transmission cannot be known directly when the data transmission process is fulfilled, but error is often prevalent in data transmission. Faulty or missing frames or bits are standard errors and to control or check errors requires a unique method, in this case, the Stop-and-wait method, Go-Back-N and Selective Reject are methods that can be used to do so, comparison of time of error checking process with Stop-and-wait method, Go-Back-N and Selective Reject is very important to get the right method to check the ignorance, from testing performed that the method of Go-Back-N is much faster than the other methods. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Improve of the overall network efficiency between source and destination relay selection and interference free communication is important criteria in WSN. In this paper we are proposing SON based algorithm capable of simultaneous Scheduling and Routing in WSN. The proposes scheme contains the three stages, in first stage the sensor nodes are classified into different clusters and each nodes having different weight based on distance from base station. In second stage the IRSS (Improvised Received Signal Strength) based scheme used select Routing path based on the Node weight, Residual Energy and Probability of Link Loss values of Relay Sensors. On the other side the channel estimation algorithm executed simultaneously with previous two stages. In final we are implementing the Data Logging based Scheduling and Routing scheme (DLSR) for WSN with Energy and Maximized Throughput. We are applying path recovery algorithm in presence of Void path or node failures. The proposed scheme additionally will form the virtual relay path to make communication with nearly zero loss. © 2017 IEEE.

Nowadays, messaging technology in digital data form more often used and not less messages that confidentially wanted. Then it should be modified so that can be understood only by the sender and the intended recipients. All of this system can be realization by using cryptography. LUC algorithms are introduced by Smith and Lennon in 1993. LUC algorithm is an algorithm that based on the use of Lucas sequence (specific arithmetic operations derived from Lucas row) that rarely used to enhance the security of the messages. In this research, LUC algorithm is combined with visual cryptography to process the encryption and the description of a colored image. Four different images were used in the trial here. The performance of the system is assessed using Structural similarity (SSIM) which has an assessment similar to human eye. If the image quality is the same as the original image, then the SSIM value is one. Whereas if the quality of decryption image is very different from the original image then the value of SSIM is zero. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work shows the production steps of two optical fibre sensing setups which were specially designed for the activities of the 2018 Photonics Lab Open Day realized at the Federal University of Technology—Paraná in Brazil as a celebration of the first International Day of Light (16 May). The systems are based on the sensing properties of fibre Bragg gratings, a well-established photonic sensing technology but not covered in regular undergraduate Optics courses. The demonstrations of optical fibre sensing properties by means of funny scientific activities intended to stimulate high school and college students' interest in science, seeking greater engagement of these students in the research projects developed at the University. Fibre Bragg ability of detecting mechanical vibration and temperature changes was used to measure the temperature of the attendee's breath and vibrations produced during a short walk. Demonstrations were realized in a contest where students were challenged to walk smoothly over a flat surface instrumented with vibration sensors, as well as to blow into a tube containing the temperature sensor. Steps of the sensing systems implementation are provided in detail including aspects concerning to the choice of the apparatus design and the installation of the sensors.
