This work presents extensions of the general methodology of employing quadratic approximations of the objective function and constraints for handling non-linear equality constraints in single-objective optimization problems. The methodology does not require any extra function evaluation since the quadratic approximations are constructed using only information that would be already obtained in the course of the optimization algorithms. The methodology is coupled with the Real Biased Genetic Algorithm to tackle non-linear single-objective optimization problems with two equality constraints. The modified algorithm is tested with a set of analytical problems. The results show the modified algorithm finds the constrained optima with enhanced precision and faster convergence. Considering that the new technique does not impose any additional cost to the algorithms, it can be stated that the technique is also suitable for costly black-box problems.

Genetic variation of somaclonal mutants from the 8th generation of Pekalongan accession rodent tuber (typhonium flagelliforme lodd.) based on RAPD-PCR analysis

Rodent tuber is a potential plant which can be developed as an anticancer drug. The rodent tuber plant has a low anticancer compound which does not have an economic value to be utilized on an industrial scale, particularly to explore as an anticancer drug. The material plant was used 30 clones of Rodent Tuber Pekalongan to increase its bioactive compounds using a combination of in vitro culture with gamma-ray irradiation. The selection process has been done until the 8th generation and obtained 14 somaclonal mutants that have higher bioactive compounds than control plant (non-mutant). This study aimed to analyze the genetic variation of 14 somaclonal mutants of rodent tuber using RAPD with 14 primers. The results were produced 513 total bands with the size of 200-5000 bp and 380 polymorphic bands between somaclonal mutants. OPB-18 primer produced the most polymorphic bands and five specific polymorphic bands of 1336 bp, 1070 bp, 901 bp, 861 bp and 728 bp in the somaclonal mutant M23 (20-4-2-1-1-1). OPD-20 primer produced seven specific polymorphic bands of 1574 bp, 1557 bp, 1501 bp, 1496 bp, 1234 bp, 1229 bp and 1086 bp in the M23 somaclonal mutant. The phylogenetic analysis showed that there were two main groups with the coefficient similarity between 0.77 and 0.83. The highest genetic variation obtained was found in the M23 somaclonal mutant with a genetic difference of 23% compared with control. There are five somaclonal mutants (M24, M22, M21, M16, M14) that have a genetic variation of up to 22% over the control. This study shows that OPB-18 and OPD-20 primers were efficient in detecting somaclonal mutant variants.

The transfer of land has an impact on the decreasing of the agricultural land area, so it is necessary to plan the right cropping pattern as an effort to increase the productivity of agricultural cultivation. Also, Climate is one of the factors influencing the determination of cropping pattern in a region. Analysis of climatic characteristics in the determination of cropping pattern not only based on oldeman climatic classification. At the same time, the study of groundwater availability for plants and climogram of climatic elements is needed in determining planting schedule which is suitable for planting and determination of irrigation water supply, either the right amount of time. This study aims to identify and build spatial of the oldeman climate classification. It also determines the cropping pattern for seasonal crops based on the calculation of water balance and climogram (rainfall and air temperature) in each type of climate oldeman district of Cirebon and surrounding areas. Data used monthly rainfall data period 1981-2010 from BMKG Jatiwangi station and air temperature data, plant coefficient and the base map of Cirebon region. The analysis method includes classification of Oldeman climate type, spatial data processing, water balance calculation by Thorntwaite & Matter method and making climogram (rainfall and temperature) with: k = p0 + p1/FC; p0 = 1.000412351; p1 = -1.073807306 and determination of planting pattern of each type of oldeman

In spite of Anderson’s theorem1, disorder is known to affect superconductivity in conventional s-wave superconductors2–11. In most superconductors, the degree of disorder is fixed during sample preparation. Here we report measurements of the superconducting properties of the two-dimensional gas that forms at the interface between LaAlO3 (LAO) and SrTiO3 (STO) in the (111) crystal orientation, a system that permits in situ tuning of carrier density and disorder by means of a back gate voltage Vg. Like the (001) oriented LAO/STO interface12–15, superconductivity at the (111) LAO/STO interface can be tuned by Vg. In contrast to the (001) interface, superconductivity in these (111) samples is anisotropic, being different along different interface crystal directions, consistent with the strong anisotropy already observed other transport properties at the (111) LAO/STO interface16,17. In addition, we find that the (111) interface samples "remember" the backgate voltage VF at which they are cooled at temperatures near the superconducting transition temperature Tc, even if Vg is subsequently changed at lower temperatures. An Automated Approach for Identifying Geometric Distortions in Gamma Cameras

Purpose: To develop a clinically-deployable, automated process for detecting artifacts in routine nuclear medicine (NM) quality assurance (QA) bar phantom images. Methods: An artifact detection algorithm was created to analyze bar phantom images as part of an ongoing QA program. A low noise, high resolution reference image was acquired from an x-ray of the bar phantom with a Philips Digital Diagnost system utilizing image stitching. NM bar images, acquired for 5 million counts over a 512×512 matrix, were registered to the template image by maximizing mutual information (MI). The MI index was used as an initial test for artifacts; low values indicate an overall presence of distortions regardless of their spatial location. Images with low MI scores were further analyzed for bar linearity, periodicity, alignment, and compression to locate differences with respect to the template. Findings from each test were spatially correlated and locations failing multiple tests were flagged as potential artifacts requiring additional visual analysis. The algorithm was initially deployed for GE Discovery 670 and Infinia Hawkeye gamma cameras. Results: The algorithm successfully identified clinically relevant artifacts from both systems previously unnoticed by technologists performing the QA. Average MI indices for artifact-free images are 0.55. Images with MI indices < 0.50 have shown 100% sensitivity and specificity for artifact detection when compared with a thorough visual analysis. Correlation of geometric tests confirms the ability to spatially locate the most likely image regions containing an artifact regardless of initial phantom orientation. Conclusion: The algorithm shows the potential to detect gamma camera artifacts that may be missed by routine technologist inspections. Detection and subsequent correction of artifacts ensures maximum image quality and may help to identify failing hardware before it impacts clinical workflow. In this paper we present an augmented reality system for mobile devices that facilitates 3D brain tumor visualization in real time. The system uses facial features to track the subject in the scene. The system performs camera calibration based on the face size of the subject, instead of the common approach of using a number of chessboard images to calibrate the camera every time the application is installed on a new device. Camera 3D pose estimation is performed by finding its position and orientation based on a set of 3D points and their corresponding 2D projections. According to the estimated camera pose, a reconstructed brain tumor model is displayed at the same location as the subject’s real anatomy. The results of our experiment show the system was successful in performing the brain tumor augmentation in real time with a reprojection accuracy of 97%.

Minimizing thin film thickness in TiN coatings using genetic algorithms

Optimization of coating parameters is important in the machining process, as an optimized coating layer enhances efficient machining result by providing high wear resistance, saving time and effort, reducing cost, increasing productivity and leading to extend tool life for better surface finish. In terms of tool wear resistance, tools with suitable film coating are forty times better than uncoated tools. Cutting tools are usually coated by Titanium Nitride (TiN), since it has properties such as resistance to wear and hardness resulting in increased cutting performance. Genetic algorithms (GAs) belong to the powerful artificial intelligence optimization family of evolutionary algorithm-based metaheuristic techniques. Since their inception, they have been successfully applied in numerous areas of industrial sectors as material design, tools coating and cutting, alloy design, and so on. In this research work, predicting thin film coating thickness of titanium nitride (TiN) on tungsten carbide (WC) inserts is presented. First, (WC) inserts were coated by TiN in different conditions using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), and the surface profilometer was used to measure thickness of the WC coated specimens. Second, Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to generate the objective function which represents the process parameters and coating thickness. Third, using a fitness function model, GAs were established to optimize the thickness value of TiN layer with respect to changes in three process parameters, namely Nitrogen gas pressure (N2), Argon gas pressure (Ar), and Turntable Speed (TT). Finally, for performance measurement, three real experimental tests were carried out in terms of Prediction Interval (PI) and Residual Error (e) to validate the RSM model. The actual coating thickness of validation data fell within the 95% (PI) and the (e) values percentage were very low.
