A simulation model for a Brazilian pipeline network used to transport heavy oil derivatives is presented. The network has four refineries, three intermediate depots, a harbor and seven pipelines. The transport is influenced by supply needs and operational constraints. The network schedule is generated online by a simulation model. The objectives are to generate the schedule in accordance with a nondeterministic arrival of ships and to compare this schedule with the one generated by a hybrid approach that combines optimization and simulation techniques. With the simulation-only approach herein proposed, the pipelines are modeled as continuous flow entities. The obtained results allow the validation of different probability distributions for the arrival of ships and they indicate the differences of both approaches: the hybrid and the simulation-only.

This work presents the application of the Continuous Wavelet Transform employing the complex Morlet mother wavelet for the modal identification of electromechanical transients. The observed oscillations are decoupled into simpler oscillatory modes through analytical expressions, from which the relative oscillation frequencies are estimated for each mode. Additionally, the most influential modes in the detected transient are identified based on the amplitude of each oscillation. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, two simulations were conducted: one using a synthetic multimodal signal and the other using a unimodal signal obtained from tests on the Power System Stabilizer of a generator from the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) consists in finding the best assignment of tasks between several workstations. An evenly distribution reduces idle time and therefore results in more efficient production systems. Although several models have been proposed for ALBP, real lines present restrictions that usually violate simplifications assumptions. This paper presents a hybrid genetic algorithm to solve balancing problems with assignment restrictions. Heuristics are dynamically used in the encoding process to reduce search space and to focus the search on promising areas. The hybrid GA is able to obtain solutions close to the optimal (0.79% in average) for the most used dataset in the literature. The presented GA can incorporate equipment or zoning restrictions that might be present in real assembly lines.

The primary objective of this innovative immobilization boot is to expedite fracture recovery phases through an ergonomic design to ensure optimal patient comfort during its use. Technological solutions are crucial in aiding the rehabilitation process for fractures caused by falls, heavy lifting, or rotational trauma. However, cost and comfort-related issues persist, underscoring the need for alternative approaches. This research addresses these challenges and delves into the broader implications of fracture treatment, catalyzing future projects and investigations in bioengineering. Additionally, this study serves as an educational tool that sparks the interest of high school and engineering students, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration in innovation. By involving students in specialized courses covering 3D design, human bone anatomy, biology, and materials science, this initiative empowers them to deepen their knowledge and develop new technologies to address bone injury problems. Material analyses include evaluating the type of material depending on the fracture site, such as PLA for printing and cotton and silicone gel for the midsection between the splint and the body. This research aims to advance our understanding of the type of fracture, the methods associated with their treatment, and tissue repair processes during bone callus formation.
