This working-in-progress paper aims to present a three-dimensional reconstruction using aerial images in different environments. Finding optimal locations for installing factories and warehouses, fulfilling customers’ demand is the goal of the Two-Stage Capacitated Facility Location, which compounds a supply chain class of problems. Besides locating factories and warehouses, the problem’s objective is to minimize the operational costs: opening facilities and product flow, satisfying customer demand, and without disregarding the capacity of factories and warehouses. A Hybrid Biased Random-Key Genetic Algorithm (HBRKGA), combining BRKGA with Local Search and Local Branching, was proposed to solve the problem. The computational experiments showed that the method was reliable and stood out among other approaches to the problem.

Digital games applied in education collaborate with the transmission and assimilation of knowledge, as they are motivating and attractive tools for students. This type of games causes a feeling of immersion in the player and provides the applicability of previously acquired concepts, that makes the learning process less complicated and more enjoyable. Studies indicate that educational digital games facilitate the absorption of more abstract science content, such as mathematics that is considered one of the most complex in elementary school. This article presents the Mighty Math Knight game, developed with the goal of helping learning the four mathematical operations to elementary school students.

Cell-free massive MIMO systems are currently being considered as potential enablers of future (6G) technologies for wireless communications. By combining distributed processing and massive MIMO, they are expected to deliver improved user coverage and efficiency. A possible source of performance degradation in such systems is pilot contamination, which contributes to causing interference during uplink training and affects channel estimation negatively. Contamination occurs when the same pilot sequence is assigned to more than one user. This is in general inevitable, as the number of mutually orthogonal pilot sequences corresponds to only a fraction of the coherence interval. We introduce a new algorithm for pilot assignment and analyze its performance both from a theoretical perspective and in computational experiments. We show that it has an approximation ratio close to 1 for a plausibly large number of orthogonal pilot sequences, as well as low computational complexity under massive parallelism. We also show that, on average, it outperforms other methods in terms of per-user SINR and throughput on the uplink. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The use of human senses (i.e., sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell) provides us information about how to build a more concrete representation of the world. Multisensorial Media (MulSeMedia) is one of the innovations that can improve these representations of the physical world by improving the reader's Quality of Experience (QoE) in digital books (e-books). Multisensorial Books is the new e-book reading platform that combines traditional multimedia elements with MulSeMedia components to enhance the QoE of the user in the reading/learning task. However, to create new stories for Multisensorial Books, previous works use manual XML annotations, which can be very laborious. Also, the previous works do not provide controls of multisensorial effects intensities. In this scenario, this work proposes contributions, such as the automatic annotations of multisensorial media using the XML model and the construction of a sensory word lexicon to control the intensity of the effects during the reading of Multisensorial Books.

Electronic books (e-books) and audiobooks are gaining popularity in the last years. Both have been the subject of studies to expand their basic functionalities. In the case of e-books, many studies are found, such as enhanced e-books and Multisensorial Books. On the other hand, little has aimed to extend audiobooks, for example, the interactive audiobooks. In this scenario, our work proposes Multisensorial Audiobooks, a new extension of traditional audiobooks. This model uses multi-sensorial media elements to enhance the quality of experience of listeners. Multisensorial Audiobooks is created to consider accessibility; that is, it can benefit visually impaired individuals, and, at the same time, dyslexia individuals. We also present a Multisensorial Audiobooks prototype, named as MulseBook. It is based on the Multisensorial Books model, which has presented promising results in previous studies. Preliminary tests with MulseBook architecture indicates that the Multisensorial Audio-books model can be implemented as an extension of traditional audiobooks. This work also presents the first story created to be executed with MulseBoook.

In mobile robotics, an essential requirement for the fusion of different sensors is that measurements are expressed with respect to the same reference. In this sense, the transformation between sensors and robot is necessary to ensure better sensor fusion. Therefore, this article proposes an extrinsic sensor calibration based on markers and associated to three orthogonal planes. This technique is applied to two calibration approaches, LiDAR-Robot and LiDAR-Camera. The first one calculates the transformation between a 3D LiDAR sensor and a robot, and the second system calculates the transformation between a 3D LiDAR and an embedded RGB camera. To demonstrate the efficiency of our method, we performed simulations on the CoppeliaSim simulator and experiments in the laboratory. Then, the results show that it is possible to calibrate the sensors with the methodologies.

Over the past decade, online crowdsourcing has established itself as an emerging paradigm that industry and government have been using to harness the cognitive abilities of a multitude of users distributed around the world. In this context, microtask crowdsourcing has become the method of choice for addressing a wide range of diverse problems. Microtasks typically require a minimum of time and cognitive effort, but combined individual efforts have made it possible to accomplish great achievements. The goal of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing effort of understanding whether the same success that microtask crowdsourcing has achieved in other domains can be obtained in the field of social news curation. In particular, we ask whether it is possible to turn online news curation, typically a social and collaborative activity on the Web, into a model in which curatorial activities are mapped into microtasks to be performed by a crowd of online users.

A low twist angle between the two stacked crystal networks in bilayer graphene enables self-organized lattice reconstruction with the formation of a periodic domain. This superlattice modulates the vibrational and electronic structures, imposing new rules for electron-phonon coupling and the eventual observation of strong correlation and superconductivity. Direct optical images of the crystal superlattice in reconstructed twisted bilayer graphene are reported here, generated by the inelastic scattering of light in a nano-Raman spectroscope. The observation of the crystallographic structure with visible light is made possible due to lattice dynamics localization, the images resembling spectral variations caused by the presence of strain solitons and topological points. The results are rationalized by a nearly-free-phonon model and electronic calculations that highlight the relevance of solitons and topological points, particularly pronounced for structures with small twist angles. We anticipate our discovery to play a role in understanding Jahn-Teller effects and electronic Cooper pairing, among many other important phonon-related effects, and it may be useful for characterizing devices in the most prominent platform for the field of *** Codes 82D03 Copyright © 2020, The Authors.
