Over the last years, the engine calibration task has mostly been conducted based on the engineers' knowledge. As a result, considering the complexity of modern engines, finding the most suitable configuration for each situation has become an impractical and expensive task. Apart from causing engines to be produced with inadequate calibration configuration, it can also decrease the lifespan of their components, degrading their efficiency. This paper proposes a machine learning-based digital twin model for pressure prediction in a fuel injection system, split into two steps. First, we extract statistical engine features based on a predefined time window to represent the engine behavior over time. Second, a digital twin implemented through a machine learning model is used to predict pressure levels in the fuel injection system. As a result, the predicted values can be used to assist the engine common rail system module in avoiding undesired engine states. Experiments performed on a new dataset, built over a real diesel-based engine, consisting of 208 features and over 1.3 million instances, have shown the feasibility of our proposal. The proposed scheme can predict in an advance time of 0.1 seconds the pressure levels for a fuel injection system with only 0.057 RMSE. Moreover, it increases its error rate by only 10.6% if a 0.5-second time advance is required. © 2022 IEEE.

The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOS process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems are being increasingly used in a broad range of applications requiring extensive communications either to interconnect the UAVs with each other or to connect them with Ground Control Stations (GCS). Due to the complexity and difficulty of performing long distance experiments with these robots, simulation becomes a viable and necessary alternative. However, focusing either on the modeling of UAV operations or communication dynamics, available simulation tools are not able to capture the complex interdependencies between these two aspects, especially in applications where extensive communications are required. The main contribution of this work is the modeling and implementation of strategies for enhancing connectivity of a UAV performing long-distance navigation tasks, taking into account applications' requirements. The proposed strategies aim at assessing the impact of frequent handovers between wireless access points in terms of packet loss and available bandwidth. The first strategy prioritizes maintaining a connection until the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observed by the robot reaches a predefined threshold. For this, it is assumed that the data to be transmitted is small enough so that the robot may change its modulation to obtain smaller bandwidths while improving connection time. The second one prioritizes bandwidth availability, thus, it always searches for a network that is able to offer data rates higher than a minimum threshold. A hybrid model is validated by considering the characteristics of each individual strategy. The capabilities of the simulation tool designed for this work are illustrated through some case-study scenarios. © 2021 IEEE.

Video super-resolution (VSR) is widely used in various high-definition applications, such as HDTVs and smartphones, requiring a dedicated upscaling technique for realtime full-HD generation. To reduce on-chip buffers for largesize output feature maps, a streaming VSR accelerator may employ an output stationary dataflow, leading to a large energy consumption caused by frequent filter switching. To mitigate this, we introduce a new filter-dedicated multiplier design for realtime VSR acceleration. We replace costly multipliers with adders, shifters, and multiplexers (MUXes), referred to as unified multiple constant multiplications (UMCM). The conventional UMCM, however, may incur considerable area/power overhead due to the unified topology constraint among different filter sets. To address this problem, we propose a new approximated MCM (AMCM) problem to relax the constraint and an approximate compatible graph synthesis (A-CGS) framework to efficiently solve AMCM by jointly searching for approximated filters and constructing a unified graph. Additionally, we suggest a lightweight finetuning method by freezing approximated filters and only finetuning biases, which can recover the original model’s accuracy within a few epochs. Experimental results with synthetic data demonstrate that AMCM reduces the area by up to 49.8%, 44.8%, and 40.3% when considering constant sets of 2, 4, and 8, respectively. Our designs with SR application achieve up to a 73.3% reduction in energy consumption. Experiments with the Set5 and Set14 datasets show that our model with bias correction achieves similar restoration performance compared to the eightbit models. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

YouTube is a widely-used platform in Indonesia, with 93.8% of its users. As such, it presents a valuable opportunity for marketing tourist destinations, particularly in Riau province, which aims to become Indonesia's top Halal travel destination. Tourism is a vital contributor to the economic growth of regions, and each province in Indonesia competes to promote its tourist attractions to attract more visitors every year. However, the large volume of data can challenge the manual analysis of feedback from YouTube's features, such as likes, dislikes, and comments. A literature review suggests that the Naive Bayes algorithm, which uses machine learning, is helpful for sentiment analysis. Therefore, this study aims to analyze public sentiment toward tourist destinations in Riau province by analyzing YouTube comments using the Naïve Bayes algorithm. The study used 1680 opinions collected from 10 YouTube videos showcasing tourist destinations in Riau. The Naive Bayes algorithm classified 60% of the comments as positive, 32% as neutral, and 8% as negative. The experimental results indicated an accuracy and precision of 73%, a recall of 94%, and an F-1 Score of 82%. The study used the word frequency technique to reveal that Riau could become a popular halal tourist destination based on several frequently occurring words in the comments. © 2023 IEEE.

Wireless sensor networks are widely valued for their effectiveness in real-time data collection. As the amount of data exchanged within such networks grows, designing a robust network topology that maximizes area coverage with minimal sensors has become a critical challenge. The choice of topology impacts key network metrics, including sensor coverage, communication range, connectivity, inference, and installation and management costsIn this paper, we address the Wireless Sensor Network Planning Problem with Multiple Sources/Destinations, presenting an optimization approach based on deep reinforcement learning. This problem is noteworthy, as sensors in various applications are often required to share data within distinct destinationsWe leverage deep reinforcement learning to effectively address the complex task of selecting optimal sensor locations. Our reinforcement learning agent dynamically learns network structure by iteratively adding and removing sensors, optimizing both sensor coverage and the total number of sensors used. Experiment across diverse scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for network planning problems of varying scales, achieving full coverage with fewer sensors than traditional approaches. Additionally, our approach also produce solutions for large instances where Mixed Integer programming solvers were not able to. Overall, our method was able to reduce the number of sensors used by up to 22.3% compared to other methods.

This work demonstrates the development of a prototype system that could improve urban and digital accessibility for People with Disability - PwD. The research involves using an academic questionnaire to enable a wider perspective of the central subject and assessing the effectiveness of the proposed solution. The main goal is to help social integration and make the future solution implementable for smart cities through an experiment in an academic campus. The dissertation is related to technological and social issues that might be used as a resource by researchers, public or private bodies interested in more profound studies. The document recognizes the lack of studies on this subject, especially in Brazil because there are few available articles. The prototype system is designed to tackle the issues faced by persons with disability in urban settings through platforms, applications and mobile phones as it proposes a comprehensive set of solutions when addressing accessibility for PwDs. In turn, this research fosters knowledge advancements in the field of urban accessibility and provides vital recommendations for developing inclusive technologies and policies.

While Spatio-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (STGCNs) are an effective method for traffic speed fore-casting, their training and inference tend to be time-consuming. In this paper, we aim to refine these networks by strategically reducing their number of nodes, thereby boosting computational efficiency. The nodes in these graphs represent data observed for road segments, and by analyzing the interconnections and layout of the graph, we can identify nodes with minimal contribution to overall performance. Removing these nodes can potentially decrease computation time while maintaining the prediction accuracy. We employ the Biased Random-Key Genetic Algorithm (BRKGA) to identify a good set of nodes for removal, based on a predefined percentage reduction of the original graph size (e.g., retaining 95 % of the original graph). We evaluate different graph size configurations, ranging from 95 % to 70 % node retention, to determine the least impactful node set performance. Our experiments on three real-world datasets reveal that reducing nodes can decrease computation time by up to 29%, and as a byproduct of removing noise, even improve the prediction accuracy.

In this paper, we aim to reduce the number of nodes from Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), thereby simplifying models and reducing computational costs. GNNs are highly effective for various tasks, such as prediction, classification, and clustering, due to their ability to learn node and edge attributes and relationships, and they have been utilized for intelligent transportation systems recently by converting sensor networks into graph structures. Deep spatio-temporal neural networks, including Spatio-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (STGCNs), capture spatial and temporal dependencies, making them suitable for traffic speed forecasting, traffic demand prediction, and travel time estimation. Despite their success, GNNs face challenges in industrial applications due to significant memory usage and time consumption. In this paper, we propose a new approach to node reduction that outperforms existing methods in computational efficiency. Our experiments on two real-world traffic datasets demonstrate that using the heuristic and edge information to reduce nodes can cut computation time of optimization up to 95% and, by eliminating noise, can even enhance prediction accuracy.
