The Robotics Major at the University of Michigan was successfully launched inthe 2022-23 academic year as an innovative step forward to better servestudents, our communities, and our society. Building on our guiding principleof "Robotics with Respect" and our larger Robotics Pathways model, the MichiganRobotics Major was designed to define robotics as a true academic disciplinewith both equity and excellence as our highest priorities. Understanding thattalent is equally distributed but opportunity is not, the Michigan RoboticsMajor has embraced an adaptable curriculum that is accessible through adiversity of student pathways and enables successful and sustained career-longparticipation in robotics, AI, and automation professions. The results afterour planning efforts (2019-22) and first academic year (2022-23) have beenhighly encouraging: more than 100 students declared Robotics as their major,completion of the Robotics major by our first two graduates, soaringenrollments in our Robotics classes, thriving partnerships with HistoricallyBlack Colleges and Universities. This document provides our original curricularproposal for the Robotics Undergraduate program at the University of Michigan,submitted to the Michigan Association of State Universities in April 2022 andapproved in June 2022. An empirical model for branding oriented by the environmental sustainability of the Amazon Rainforest: a hybrid structural equation modeling with fsQCA approach

Utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior, a meaningful connection between an organization and its consumers can be established, transcending mere appearances and delving into emotions, relationships, and brand experiences. In line with these principles, this study aims to present an empirical model grounded in factual evidence derived from the perspectives of entrepreneurs and consumers of environmentally sustainable brands in the Brazilian Amazon. The proposed model adopts a mixed-modeling approach, utilizing data analysis techniques such as fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Two independent data sets were collected: one from 8 companies operating in the Amazon rainforest and another from 535 potential consumers. By analyzing these datasets, consumer motivations for the consumption of sustainable brands, entrepreneurial practices, and the role of traditional communities and the forest environment in shaping brand perceptions were identified. The results reveal that, from the consumer’s perspective, the key factors influencing a positive inclination to purchase sustainable brands include the brand’s engagement with traditional com munities, perceived product quality, brand innovation, and a transparently communicated positioning strategy. These constructs form the core components of the main solution. This article provides valuable information for entrepreneurs operating sustainable brands in tropical forests as well as for policymakers in community-based entrepreneurship. It is also of interest to researchers and individuals involved in brand management as a strategy for empowering small businesses engaged in sustainable practices and community collaboration. The study’s findings and recommendations have the potential to foster more sustainable and socially responsible business practices, thereby enhancing local economies and contributing to environmental preservation.

The rapid population growth and industrial development in developing countries harm the agricultural sector because many agricultural lands are converted into residential or industrial areas. Applying modern agriculture technologies such as hydroponic could help to overcome the problem. However, hydroponics requires special attention in adjusting the pH and nutrient levels to maximize plant growth, so an automated system is needed to manage the process. In this research, a smart hydroponic system is proposed by applying Adaptive Networkbased Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Internet-of-Things. The IoT system consists of sensor, actuator, and data processing layer is designed to monitor and control the condition of pH and nutrition of the observed plants. Then, the ANFIS algorithm is designed to control the level of pH and nutrition. The experiment results show that the system can automatically adjust the pH and nutrient levels to the expected range for growing plants, and the fuzzy controller made using ANFIS are more accurate and stable than the fuzzy controller made using Sugeno. This study shows that ANFIS has excellent performance when controlling multiple actuators, as long as the data set has great granularity and well defined.

This article presents a performance investigation of a fault detection approach for bearings using different chaotic features with fractional order, where the five different chaotic features and three combinations are clearly described, and the detection achievement is organized. In the architecture of the method, a fractional order chaotic system is first applied to produce a chaotic map of the original vibration signal in the chaotic domain, where small changes in the signal with different bearing statuses might be present;then, a 3D feature map can be obtained. Second, five different features, combination methods, and corresponding extraction functions are introduced. In the third action, the correlation functions of extension theory used to construct the classical domain and joint fields are applied to further define the ranges belonging to different bearing statuses. Finally, testing data are fed into the detection system to verify the performance. The experimental results show that the proposed different chaotic features perform well in the detection of bearings with 7 and 21 mil diameters, and an average accuracy rate of 94.4% was achieved in all cases. © 2023 by the authors.

Recently, Metaverse has attracted increasing attention from both industry and academia, because of the significant potential to integrate real and digital worlds ever more seam-lessly. By combining advanced wireless communications, edge computing and virtual reality (VR) technologies into Metaverse, a multidimensional, intelligent and powerful wireless edge Meta-verse is created for future human society. In this paper, we design a privacy preserving targeted advertising strategy for the wireless edge Metaverse. Specifically, a Metaverse service provider (MSP) allocates bandwidth to the VR users so that the users can access Metaverse from edge access points. To protect users' privacy, the covert communication technique is used in the downlink. Then, the MSP can offer high-quality access services to earn more profits. Motivated by the concept of “covert”, targeted advertising is used to promote the sale of bandwidth and ensure that the advertising strategy cannot be detected by competitors who may make counter-offer and by attackers who want to disrupt the services. We derive the best advertising strategy in terms of budget input, with the help of the Vidale-Wolfe model and Hamiltonian function. Furthermore, we propose a novel metric named Meta-Immersion to represent the user's experience feelings. The performance evaluation shows that the MSP can boost its revenue with an optimal targeted advertising strategy, especially compared with that without the advertising.

Calcium aluminate cement (CAC)bonded castables have numerous benefits when compared to monolithic refractories. Their main drawback is their long initial heating, when the physical and chemically-bonded water are released. If the mass flux of water to the ambient is lower than the vapor generation, the gas pressure can increase well above the material's strength resulting in cracks and spalling of the ceramic lining. In order to avoid this, optimized heat up curves are needed, and one promising methodology by using numerical models. Most of these calculations are based on tools used for simulating Portland cement concrete structures on fire and they vary both in complexity and their basic assumptions. Thus, the main question that remains is how complex such models need to be in order to capture the fundamental aspects of this phenomenon. The present work aimed to solve this issue by implementing multiple numerical tools reported in the literature with distinct complexity levels and fundamental assumptions and by also conducting neutron tomography tests on a CAC-bonded castable. It was possible to see that the pressure values predicted by such methodologies are equivalent and the water content predicted is qualitatively similar within the models and with the experimental values, indicating that the simplest approach might be used for predicting the castables' drying. © 2022 Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories, UNITECR 2022 - Proceedings. Digital transformation plays a big role in many industries, including construction. One of the obstacles to manage large-scale and complex construction projects is inefficient communication between involving personnel. Most problems are such as misunderstanding contexts, incomplete information, ignorance, missing multimedia files, etc. In Thailand, organizations adopt digital transformation by utilizing a variety of applications and software to complete their projects, such as LINE, G-Suite, Asana, etc. Users have to spend a lot of time to learn each application and software to be able to achieve maximum performance. Construction process quality control assisted application is the new tool developed for uniting all needs and solving communication problems. Requirements are gathered by five interviews with three major organizations, the Thailand Department of Highway, Team Built Co., Ltd., and one major construction company. Requirements were analyzed to extract the most useful features that are beneficial to all users. React Native and the Expo framework were used to develop the frontend part of the application. For the backend part, the application used microservice architecture with various cloud services, like Amazon AWS, Expo Server, and Firebase Cloud Messaging. In the end, the application was put through hand-on tests by 13 on-site personnel. The final results showed the average scores of the user interface, hands-on experience, and benefits for the users were 4, 4.16, and 3.92 (out of 5), respectively, in which the total satisfaction score is 4.03(out of 5). © 2021 IEEE.

The assignment of preachers to mosques in Riau Province faces significant challenges due to the geographic dispersion of mosques and inconsistent scheduling practices. Preachers often travel long distances, and mismatched assignments lead to inefficiencies and reduced effectiveness in delivering sermons. This study addresses these issues by leveraging advanced clustering techniques to optimize preacher assignments. Specifically, we applied Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) to cluster mosque and preacher data based on geolocation, activity, and profiles. We integrated Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction to enhance the clustering performance, forming a GMM-PCA hybrid approach. Data was obtained from the Indonesian Ulema Council Riau Province Chapter, which consists of 185 mosques and 250 preachers, totaling 435 data points. The results indicate that using GMM alone, the optimal clustering was achieved with 10 clusters, yielding a Silhouette Score of 0.31. The GMM-PCABIC hybrid approach improved clustering quality. It achieved optimal results with 9 clusters, a significantly higher Silhouette Score of 0.48, and a lower BIC Score of 2696.18. These findings demonstrate the novelty of the GMM-PCA-BIC hybrid method in effectively capturing the complex characteristics of mosque and preacher data, ensuring efficient and relevant preacher assignments. Implementing this optimized clustering approach allows mosque administrators to make data-driven decisions, enhancing the effectiveness of religious activities.
