Lung cancer remains a significant global public health concern, being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Despite recent medical advancements, the disease still has a high mortality rate, making early detection and treatment critical for improving patient outcomes. Accurate prediction of nodule growth is key to early lung cancer treatment, but current assessments offer unclear indications of future growth, leading physicians to recommend costly and anxiety-provoking follow-up appointments every 3 to 12 months. To address this need, this study develops an ensemble deep learning approach that combines demographic data with existing CT images to predict whether lung nodules will grow, potentially reducing unnecessary examinations and easing the burden on patients. Our study, conducted on 862 patients with 1004 nodules, produced promising preliminary results with Accuracy, Sensitivity, Precision, F1 Score, and AUC of 0.66, 0.66, 0.67, 0.66, and 0.71, respectively. The proposed method provides a promising support system to empower patients to make informed decisions about seeking medical attention and helps physicians facilitate early treatment regimens, leading to improved patient outcomes and potentially saving lives. © 2023 ACM.

Research on Shelf-Life Extension Technologies for Food Sustainability: An Assessment of Scientific Activities and Networks

A clearer understanding of research streams and players involved in efforts to address the sustainability of global food and agricultural systems is needed to clarify the current state of scientific knowledge and form collaborations to pursue future research directions. This study presents new insights into this issue through a scientometric process involving a case study of technologies for extending fruit shelf-life. The text mining software was utilized to analyze 3,131 Web of science-indexed articles published between 2000 and 2020 as a means to glean the conceptual structure of current knowledge and conduct a social network analysis to explore scientific and publication activity. The findings were mapped onto a strategic diagram of research productivity and collaboration between players at the national, organizational, and individual levels. This research's main findings highlight that research on shelf-life technology is in continuous development, and academic institutions from China, Spain, and the U.S. are the core national players in this field. The results provide insights for further investigation to strengthen co-research and technological development programs in other fields. Researchers who are exploring networking opportunities can use the model and process presented as a guideline for identifying emerging and future research trends and formulating strategies. © 2022 Jakkrit Thavorn et al.

Device degradation due to hot carrier injection (HCI) in multi-fin 20 nm and 10 nm N- and P-type FinFET devices are thoroughly analyzed. To further understand the HCI reliability of the four FinFET devices, the device is fabricated with a standard Vt base and low Vt base gate stacks with different work functions. It is evident that: (i) The standard Vt device sustains lower effective stress bias due to the difference in threshold voltage, resulting in a more stable threshold voltage than the low Vt base device, and (ii) the transconductance of the single N- and P-type FinFET is more severely degraded than the multi-fin N- and P-type FinFET, mainly because multi N- and P-type Finfet has coupe effect, which effectively reduces the impact of HCI. © 2023 The Electrochemical Society ("ECS"). CONVERGENCE SPEED AND APPROXIMATION ACCURACY OF NUMERICAL MCMC

When implementing Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms, perturbation caused by numerical errors is sometimes inevitable. This paper studies how perturbation of MCMC affects the convergence speed and Monte Carlo estimation accuracy. Our results show that when the original Markov chain converges to stationarity fast enough and the perturbed transition kernel is a good approximation to the original transition kernel, the corresponding perturbed sampler has similar convergence speed and high approximation accuracy as well. We discuss two different analysis frameworks: ergodicity and spectral gap, both are widely used in the literature. Our results can be easily extended to obtain non-asymptotic error bounds for MCMC estimators. We also demonstrate how to apply our convergence and approximation results to the analysis of specific sampling algorithms, including Random walk Metropolis and Metropolis adjusted Langevin algorithm with perturbed target densities, and parallel tempering Monte Carlo with perturbed densities. We present the task of Automated Punishment Extraction (APE) in sentencing decisions from criminal court cases in Hebrew. Addressing APE will enable the identification of sentencing patterns and constitute an important stepping stone for many follow up legal NLP applications in Hebrew, including the prediction of sentencing decisions. We curate a dataset of sexual assault sentencing decisions and a manuallyannotated evaluation dataset, and implement rulebased and supervised models. We find that while supervised models can identify the sentence containing the punishment with good accuracy, rulebased approaches outperform them on the full APE task. We conclude by presenting a first analysis of sentencing patterns in our dataset and analyze common models' errors, indicating avenues for future work, such as distinguishing between probation and actual imprisonment punishment. We will make all our resources available upon request, including data, annotation, and first benchmark models. © 2021 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Generative Diffusion Models (GDMs) have emerged as a transformative force in the realm of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), demonstrating their versatility and efficacy across various applications. The ability to model complex data distributions and generate high-quality samples has made GDMs particularly effective in tasks such as image generation and reinforcement learning. Furthermore, their iterative nature, which involves a series of noise addition and denoising steps, is a powerful and unique approach to learning and generating data. This paper serves as a comprehensive tutorial on applying GDMs in network optimization tasks. We delve into the strengths of GDMs, emphasizing their wide applicability across various domains, such as vision, text, and audio generation. We detail how GDMs can be effectively harnessed to solve complex optimization problems inherent in networks. The paper first provides a basic background of GDMs and their applications in network optimization. This is followed by a series of case studies, showcasing the integration of GDMs with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), incentive mechanism design, Semantic Communications (SemCom), Internet of Vehicles (IoV) networks, etc. These case studies underscore the practicality and efficacy of GDMs in real-world scenarios, offering insights into network design. We conclude with a discussion on potential future directions for GDM research and applications, providing major insights into how they can continue to shape the future of network optimization. © 2023, CC BY.

Chat-UniVi: Unified Visual Representation Empowers Large Language Models with Image and Video Understanding

Large language models have demonstrated impressive universal capabilities across a wide range of open-ended tasks and have extended their utility to encompass multimodal conversations. However, existing methods encounter challenges in effectively handling both image and video understanding, particularly with limited visual tokens. In this work, we introduce Chat-UniVi, a Unified Vision-language model capable of comprehending and engaging in conversations involving images and videos through a unified visual representation. Specifically, we employ a set of dynamic visual tokens to uniformly represent images and videos. This representation framework empowers the model to efficiently utilize a limited number of visual tokens to simultaneously capture the spatial details necessary for images and the comprehensive temporal relationship required for videos. Moreover, we leverage a multi-scale representation, enabling the model to perceive both high-level semantic concepts and low-level visual details. Notably, Chat-UniVi is trained on a mixed dataset containing both images and videos, allowing direct application to tasks involving both mediums without requiring any modifications. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that Chat-UniVi consistently outperforms even existing methods exclusively designed for either images or videos. Personnel and education data very important for organizations, including the military. All data related to military personnel will give effect positions and careers in the military field. The integration of personnel and education data can assist in processing and decision making. An analysis is needed so that the developed system can be useful for the long term. Analysis with IT balanced scorecard and COBIT® 2019, will be able to help and fill the gaps in the existing system based on the objectives of the military organization itself. It is shown that the domains BAI05 (Managed Organizational Change) and DSS02 (Managed Service Requests and Incidents) are still not being implemented well. The system developed will have the features and capabilities to support the organization in achieving its goals, including in the field of staffing and education. Besides, it provides convenience in making decisions in terms of positions related to personnel careers. © 2020 IEEE.

This works presents an innovative application of Markov Decision Process (MDP) to a medium-term mining logistics planning problem considering the mine-to-client supply chain. We implemented three distinct algorithms based on state-of-the-art approaches to solve large-scale problems, and compared their results. Furthermore, we combined all three variants in a single novel algorithm that attained fast convergence and may be an alternative to circumvent the curse of dimensionality underlying large scale problems. © 2020 EUCA.
