Polaritons enable subwavelength confinement and highly anisotropic flows of light over a wide spectral range, holding the promise for applications in modern nanophotonic and optoelectronic devices. However, to fully realize their practical application potential, facile methods enabling nanoscale active control of polaritons are needed. Here, we introduce a hybrid polaritonic-oxide heterostructure platform consisting of van der Waals crystals, such as hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) or alpha-phase molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO3), transferred on nanoscale oxygen vacancy patterns on the surface of prototypical correlated perovskite oxide SmNiO3 (SNO). Using a combination of scanning probe microscopy and infrared nanoimaging techniques, we demonstrate nanoscale real-time reconfigurability of complex hyperbolic phonon polaritons patterned at the nanoscale with unmatched resolution. Hydrogenation and temperature modulation allow spatially localized conductivity modulation of SNO nanoscale patterns, enabling robust real-time modulation and nanoscale reconfiguration of hyperbolic polaritons. Our work paves the way towards nanoscale programmable metasurface engineering as a new paradigm for reconfigurable nanophotonic applications facilitated by a hybrid material platform exploiting extreme light-matter interactions in polaritonic systems. © 2021, CC BY.

The purpose of this study is to find the influence factors of blockchain technology adoption of payments system in Indonesia banking industry. Moreover, the researchers proposed new model of payment system by using blockchain technology in Indonesia banking industry. All this time, the researchers of blockchain in payment systems were done in major countries such as UK, USA, Australia, Scotland, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, and China. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) used as a method in this study and there were five databases that taken as references, such as IEEE, science direct, AIS electronic, ACM and Google Scholar. The researchers were found 26 references Studies Included in Quantitative Synthesis and 9 variables (Easy to use, Usefulness, Transaction fees, Risk perception, Behaviour intention of use, Attitude toward, Cognitive style, Subjective Norm, Effectiveness). Based on the result of data analysis and discussion, there were two conclusions in this study, the first, the researchers found nine factors that expected tobe used as a reference if Indonesia banking industry wants to adopt blockchain technology for payment system;and second, the researchers had to propose payment system model by using blockchain technology in Indonesia banking industry. © 2018 IEEE.

Atomically precise epitaxial structures are unique systems for tunneling spectroscopy that minimize extrinsic effects of disorder. We present a systematic tunneling spectroscopy study, over a broad doping, temperature, and bias range, in epitaxial c-axis La2−xSrxCuO4/La2CuO4/La2−xSrxCuO4 heterostructures. The behavior of these superconductor/insulator/superconductor (SIS) devices is unusual. Down to 20 mK there is complete suppression of c-axis Josephson critical current with a barrier of only 2 nm of La2CuO4, and the zero-bias conductance remains at 20–30% of the normal-state conductance, implying a substantial population of in-gap states. Tunneling spectra show greatly suppressed coherence peaks. As the temperature is raised, the superconducting gap fills in rather than closing at Tc. For all doping levels, the spectra show an inelastic tunneling feature at ∼80 meV, suppressed as T exceeds Tc. These nominally simple epitaxial cuprate junctions deviate markedly from expectations based on the standard Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory.

Strange-metal behavior has been observed in materials ranging from high-temperature superconductors to heavy fermion metals. In conventional metals, current is carried by quasiparticles;although it has been suggested that quasiparticles are absent in strange metals, direct experimental evidence is lacking. We measured shot noise to probe the granularity of the current-carrying excitations in nanowires of the heavy fermion strange metal YbRh2Si2. When compared with conventional metals, shot noise in these nanowires is strongly suppressed. This suppression cannot be attributed to either electron-phonon or electron-electron interactions in a Fermi liquid, which suggests that the current is not carried by well-defined quasiparticles in the strange-metal regime that we probed. COVID-19 makes the community must carry out activities such as school, work, and worship at home. However, the long-running activities from home make people experience boredom which can lead to stress. On the other side, the entertainment obtained by the public through smartphones by reading articles by their interests can reduce boredom. This paper proposed a rules-based decision support system to help the people to make choices of their activities from home while COVID-19 e rules-based approach for make an application decision support system. Ruled base used in application to selected process through characteristics following the interests of the community. This decision support system is implemented in mobile web applications. The system can display articles based on interests by questions or statements through the front end system. The results showed that most users of the application in a happy condition while working from home.

Interest in cryo-Electron Microscopy (EM) imaging has skyrocketed in recent years due to its pristine views of macromolecules and materials. As advances in instrumentation and computing algorithms spurred this progress, there is renewed focus to address specimen-related challenges. Here we contribute a microchip-based toolkit to perform complementary structural and biochemical analysis on low molecular-weight proteins. As a model system, we used the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein (48 kDa) due to its stability and important role in therapeutic development. Cryo-EM structures of the N protein monomer revealed a flexible N-terminal “top hat” motif and a helical-rich C-terminal domain. To complement our structural findings, we engineered microchip-based immunoprecipitation assays that led to the discovery of the first antibody binding site on the N protein. The data also facilitated molecular modeling of a variety of pandemic and common cold-related coronavirus proteins. Such insights may guide future pandemic-preparedness protocols through immuno-engineering strategies to mitigate viral outbreaks. © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

For damage detection, this research article discusses an easy-to-compute damage index derived from the governing dynamic of the structure that has potential practical application in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). The research uses simplified structural models to explore the sensitivity of the index to damages, to compare the index performance with a traditional but popular damage detection method, and to understand the local/global predictive capability of the index. The research uses two simple models, namely, single- and two-degree-of-freedom systems. The results suggest that the damage index is local, that can only monitor damages occurring near the points of measurements, but it is sensitive to damages, unlike the natural frequency, which is global but less sensitive.

Understanding the reliability of engineering methods is crucial for its adoption and deployment. This research focuses on the reliability of the Power Spectral Density (PSD) method via the use of the F statistic for damage detection. To the author best knowledge, the method is rather classic but its realibility has not been discussed in the context of a large data size. Priory, the research anticipates that the accuracy is a function of the damage level. In this study, we evaluate 3500 cases with five levels of structural integrity, namely, healthy condition and damaged conditions with 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20% damage levels. The dataset is established via a numerical analysis of a seven degree-of-freedom system loaded with a concentrated dynamic force with random magnitude. A spring on the system is reduced in its stiffness to simulate damages. Our significant findings are the following: it is challenging for the PSD-based method to differentiate the healthy condition from the damaged conditions when the damage level is small. However, the reliability is high at 95% probability when the structural integrity has dropped by five percent.

This paper deals with two experiments regarding games developed in Scratch in the course of robotics at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná campus Cornélio Procópio (UTFPR-CP) to assist in the learning of an autonomous vehicle using a similar classic game of war tanks, existing since the 80s for the Atari 2600. In the first experiment, applied to the class 2019/2, a student (player) controls a tank using the keyboard in a battle against another autonomous tank. In this game, certain fundamentals are presented, such as pose (position x, y and the angle formed in relation to the x axis), basic notions about controlled and autonomous robots, hierarchy of actions, modeling using state machine. These concepts were extracted through a questionnaire filled out by the students after the end of the games. The second experiment, applied to the 2020/1 class, was based on a game inspired by the classic Pong, using though more degrees of freedom (DOF). In this case, the player must operate the keyboard to reach a ball through a robotic arm with two rotating joints. Moreover, concepts such as workspace (in two dimensions), multiple solutions, inverse and direct kinematics were introduced. Delivery rates were 90% and 80% regarding the first and the second experiment, respectively. Finally, despite the limited number of these experiments, it is believed that the objective of using more modern didactic tools to teach important concepts in the discipline of robotics has been achieved. Thus, students perceived more easily the basic concepts of robotics presented in the experiments than ever before.
