Universities can employ information technology as one means of achieving their goals and objectives. Universities can get advantages from information technology, such as effective resource management and information management for decision-making. However, don't forget that the campus must consider what technology is appropriate to assist them achieve their goals, particularly in the current industrial era 4.0 where technology is available with many different choices. The campus requires an enterprise architecture in order to design, manage, and coordinate information technology infrastructure, applications, and processes strategically and thoroughly. The adoption of enterprise information system architecture (EA) is also intended to improve the quality of services provided to internal and external stakeholders. In this case, Enterprise Architecture can help an organization to match its information technology resources with business processes and strategies to achieve their goals. This research was conducted using TOGAF ADM, also known as the Open Group Architecture Framework Architecture Development Method. This method offers best practices for creating enterprise architecture and emphasizes several steps that include creating an architectural vision, information systems, business architecture modeling to help XYZ campus manage all their information technology. © 2023 IEEE.

Students 'attendance in class is one important success parameter in face-to-face learning processes. Conventional attendance systems, such as paper-based attendance sheets or identity card systems, require a long time in the manual recapitulation process. Without additional verifications, even computer vision-based methods are prone to fraudulent practices by the students instead of gaining their excitement and attention in a class. To stimulate students' attention in a class, this work designs an intelligent class attendance system, in which facial pattern and smile recognition are implemented by using the latter as an additional task-based verification to reduce the risks of fake attendance. For the face recognition module, this pilot study used FaceNet as a feature extractor combined with SVM for classification, whereas the Haar cascade algorithm is used for recognizing smiles. This face recognition pipeline was implemented as a service installed on minicomputers or Internet of Things (IoT) devices in each classroom and connected to an IP camera. Every recorded attendance will be sent as a notification to a mobile application for students that requires their active participation to confirm it with a smiling self-photo. The proposed pipeline obtained 92.86% accuracy on the test data, and 66.67% accuracy when evaluated in a real-life simulation setting through the implemented system. The lower accuracy in the simulation indicated that further improvements are indispensable, especially since the model obtained 28.57% False Negative Rate. Future studies will need to acquire more data and experiment with more efficient methods of attendance verification. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, two deep learning models for automatic tattoo detection were analyzed; a modified Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and pre-trained ResNet-50 model. In order to achieve this, ResNet-50 uses transfer learning with fine-tuning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and computational efficiency of the system being considered. To augment the dataset included 1000 photos that were equally divided between those showing tattoos and those that did not show tattoos. A k-fold cross-validation approach was employed in training and testing the models. Although custom CNNs are effective, utilizing pre-trained ones like ResNet-50 can offer even better outcomes. Specifically, ResNet-50 attained a higher accuracy (0.86 compared to 0.79), precision (0.85 versus 0.78), recall (0.91 against 0.86), and F1-score (0.91 vis-a-vis 0.86) as compared to custom CNNs. In selecting these models for examination, two main motivations were considered. The first motivation is to see whether transfer learning with a pre-trained ResNet-50 model does well when compared with a customized CNN designed specifically for tattoo detection. Secondly,the intent of this study is to know what advantages can be derived from each approach and their demerits too. Furthermore, it seeks to determine if transfer learning can provide an alternative in contrast to the common CNN techniques with regards to precision and computational efficiency. In this research, two models will be evaluated in order to answer the question of what is better for tattoo detection: transfer learning or designing custom architectures.

Speed Bump Detection Through Inertial Sensors and Deep Learning in a Multi-contextual Analysis

Speed bumps are vertical raisings of the road pavement used to force drivers to slow down to ensure greater safety in traffic. However, these obstacles have disadvantages in terms of efficiency and safety, where the presence of speed bumps can affect travel time and fuel consumption, cause traffic jams, delay emergency vehicles, and cause vehicle damage or accidents when not properly signaled. Due to these factors, the availability of geolocation information for these obstacles can benefit several applications in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles, allowing to trace more efficient routes or alert the driver of the presence of the obstacle ahead. Speed bump detection applications described in the literature employ cameras or inertial sensors, represented by accelerometers and gyroscopes. While camera-based solutions are mature with evaluation in different contextual conditions, those based on inertial sensors do not offer multi-contextual analyses, being mostly simple applications of proof of concept, not applicable in real-world scenarios. For this reason, in this work, we propose the development of a reliable speed bump detection model based on inertial sensors, capable of operating reliably in contextual variations: different vehicles, driving styles, and environments in which vehicles can travel to. For the model development and validation, we collect nine datasets with contextual variations, using three different vehicles, with three different drivers, in three different environments, in which there are three different surface types, in addition to variations in conservation state and the presence of obstacles and anomalies. The speed bumps are present in two different pavement types, asphalt and cobblestone. Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) is a widely known technique to adapt the accuracy of a solution in critical areas of the problem domain instead of using regular or irregular but static meshes. The MARE2DEM is a parallel application that employs the AMR technique to model 2D electromagnetics in oil and gas exploration. The modeling consists in iteratively applying a data inversion based on a set of measurements collected and registered by a survey on an area of interest. The parallelism of the MARE2DEM works by dividing the workload into a set of refinement groups that represent overlapping areas of the problem domain. Each refinement group can be computed independently of the others by a set of workers, carrying out the AMR in the meshes when necessary. The shape and compute performance of the refinement group depend directly of a set of user-defined parameters. In this article, we provide a method to estimate the MARE2DEM performance for all possible values that can be used in the influencing parameters of the application for a given case study. Our relatively cheap method enables the geologist to configure MARE2DEM correctly and extract the best performance for a given cluster configuration. We detail how the method works and evaluate its effectiveness with success, pinpointing the best values for the creating refinement groups using a real case study from the Marlim field on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although we demonstrate our evaluation with this scenario, our method works for any input of MARE2DEM.

The phenomenon of urbanization in Indonesia is inevitable. The new residential and economic centers in suburban areas is also a problem in city development. The gradual planning and development of smart cities in a living lab require consideration of the right location for a living lab. This study wants to show that suburban areas as city buffer zones can become living laboratories for smart city development. The diversity of situations in cities and regencies across Indonesia, the potential for resources, and the problems faced are the challenges of developing a living lab-Garuda Smart City Framework. This research uses the method of reviewing the literature of research publications for the last five years (2019-2023) to obtain information on Smart City development in Indonesia. We collected selected articles from databases in Google Scholar, IEEE, and Scopus using the Publish and Perish 8. The search keywords used were garuda AND Smart city AND Framework. The findings show the potential and dynamics of buffer zones to become appropriate living laboratories. Smart city regional planning can more holistically involve neighborhoods and address urban issues. © 2023 IEEE.

This study introduces the system submitted to the SemEval 2022 Task 11: MultiCoNER (Multilingual Complex Named Entity Recognition) by the UC3M-PUCPR team. We proposed an ensemble of transformer-based models for entity recognition in cross-domain texts. Our deep learning method benefits from the transformer architecture, which adopts the attention mechanism to handle the long-range dependencies of the input text. Also, the ensemble approach for named entity recognition (NER) improved the results over baselines based on individual models on two of the three tracks we participated in. The ensemble model for the code-mixed task achieves an overall performance of 76.36% F1-score, a 2.85 percentage point increase upon our individually best model for this task, XLM-RoBERTa-large (73.51%), outperforming the baseline provided for the shared task by 18.26 points. Our preliminary results suggest that contextualized language models ensembles can, even if modestly, improve the results in extracting information from unstructured data. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This study evaluates an agent-based reinforcement learning framework for model-based testing (MBT). The framework’s performance was assessed on three key metrics: effectiveness and efficiency in achieving model coverage objectives, the quantity and uniqueness of generated test cases, and code coverage. The results show improved metrics for the framework compared to traditional testers in model coverage evaluation and test case metrics. Specifically, the framework achieved higher effectiveness and efficiency, generating a higher average number of test cases with a substantial proportion of unique cases, indicating more diverse and thorough testing. Additionally, the framework, along with random and greedy testers, achieved over 70% coverage across branch, method, and line code metrics. The framework showed slightly higher values in method and line coverage compared to other testers. The evaluation highlights the use of agent-based reinforcement learning to support model-based testing in planning test case generation, exploring models using multiple strategies, and learning guided by testing metrics. Future work will focus on further refining the framework learning model, including error coverage evaluation, and testing its applicability across different software systems.

Immersive learning has gained significant attention with the rising trend of spatial computing, particularly in the after-pandemic era. Numerous research has explored the potential of immersive learning in higher education, primarily on the educational sector. However, prior research has frequently focused too narrowly on the effects of technology and neglected to address the crucial element influencing successful immersive learning in higher education. This study seeks to pinpoint the crucial element contributing to the development of immersive learning experiences. The methodology uses a systematic literature review (SLR) from 2018 up to 2023 to investigate the critical factors of immersive Learning in Higher Education. From the 728 papers initially retrieved, 274 were considered potential candidates, and ultimately, 86 articles were selected based on their relevance to the research question. The results reveal that the critical factors include learning design, technology, immersion, engagement, interactivity, and usability. Academic interests will benefit from this SLR's consequences as institutions create models for designing suitable immersive learning, especially within the context of higher education. © 2023 IEEE.

Kidney stones are primarily crystals formed from ion oversaturation in urine. Currently, the diagnosis of kidney stones involves experienced professionals manually interpreting images of urinary crystals under a microscope. In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), many researchers have proposed various methods to assist in diagnosis, hoping to improve medical quality. This study explored the application of AI in the medical field, aiming to automate the interpretation of urinary crystal images, such as red blood corpuscles (RBCs), calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM), calcium oxalate dihydrate octahedron (COD-OCT), calcium oxalate dihydrate dodecahedron (COD-DOD), debris, and others, and to use image processing techniques to classify urinary crystal types. This research is expected to assist medical personnel in quickly determining the categories of urinary crystals. Ultimately, our model achieved an F1-score of 0.93, indicating that this architecture has significant potential. © 2024 Copyright ACM.
