Image segmentation is an essential component in many different types of computer vision systems. Image segmentation is used in order to identify objects and boundaries within pictures. It is important to note that the success of recognition algorithms is heavily dependent on the quality of the picture segmentation, and there is yet no technique that can universally segment images. Boundary detection has a long history of being recognised as one of the most difficult challenges in the fields of image processing and pattern analysis, in particular, when it comes to applications in medical imaging. The clarity of the picture is being muddled by more information, which is the source of the problem's complexity. The creation of segmentation algorithms for medical pictures is an active field of study, and segmentation algorithms are meant to account for a variety of factors, including noise, intensity inhomogeneity, poor contrast between the lesion and the surrounding skin, and so on. There is currently no active contour model that combines the locally statistical property of being more noise-resistant, in which the intensities in the transformed domain have less overlapping in the statistics, and the locally image fitting property of extracting the local image information in order to be able to segment images with intensity inhomogeneity. This is because there is no such model. So the proposed work includes Ant colony optimization based double threshold segmentation in medical images. Performance of the proposed algorithm is more efficient, reliable and accurate than the existing algorithm. Performance parameters such as segmentation accuracy, error rate, and Dice co-efficient are used in order to conduct the evaluation of the proposed work. © 2022 IEEE.

The Robotics Major at the University of Michigan was successfully launched inthe 2022-23 academic year as an innovative step forward to better servestudents, our communities, and our society. Building on our guiding principleof "Robotics with Respect" and our larger Robotics Pathways model, the MichiganRobotics Major was designed to define robotics as a true academic disciplinewith both equity and excellence as our highest priorities. Understanding thattalent is equally distributed but opportunity is not, the Michigan RoboticsMajor has embraced an adaptable curriculum that is accessible through adiversity of student pathways and enables successful and sustained career-longparticipation in robotics, AI, and automation professions. The results afterour planning efforts (2019-22) and first academic year (2022-23) have beenhighly encouraging: more than 100 students declared Robotics as their major,completion of the Robotics major by our first two graduates, soaringenrollments in our Robotics classes, thriving partnerships with HistoricallyBlack Colleges and Universities. This document provides our original curricularproposal for the Robotics Undergraduate program at the University of Michigan,submitted to the Michigan Association of State Universities in April 2022 andapproved in June 2022. Exploring Potential Factors to Students' Computational Thinking: Interactions between Gender and ICT-resource Differences in Taiwanese Junior High Schools

One of the major purposes of this study is to investigate the potential impact of gender and information and computer technology (ICT) resources on students' computational thinking (CT) competencies. To this end, the Computational Thinking Test for Junior High Students (CTT-JH) was developed and validated. Research participants included 437 junior high school students in Taiwan. The surveyed schools were categorized into more or fewer ICT resources. Then, discrimination analyses and Rasch modeling for item analyses and two-way ANOVA were conducted. Results showed that the final version of CTT-JH is of good item quality. Students in schools with more ICT resources had higher CT test mean scores regardless of gender. Nevertheless, at schools with limited resources, male students had significantly lower CT test mean scores than female students did. This study provides new insights into how gender and ICT resources can interact with and impact on students' CT competencies. It also provides a valid and reliable tool for assessing young adolescents' CT abilities.

Several research efforts have proposed adaptive solutions for Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) to satisfy time requirements and save energy on Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) affected by radiofrequency interferences and carrying dynamic traffic. Even with the benefits, most of these solutions waste network bandwidth, decreasing network performance and the ability to recover from some unexpected communication conditions. This paper introduces the E-THeTA, an adaptive and efficient approach based on TDMA crafted to enhance performance, save energy, and efficiently use WBAN bandwidth. Compared to IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.15.6 standards and other adaptive approaches, the proposed solution reduces message losses, consumes less energy, and maintains low communication latencies in most evaluated scenarios.

Nowadays, schools are trying to insert knowledge and learning about sustainability issues and environmental conservation in the academic context from an early age. It is also observed the use of information technology with new didactic and ludic resources that can encourage elementary and high school students to obtain knowledge about sustainability. To this end, this research presents some results using educational Robotics, Gestalt, and information technology, which students received from a Brazilian public elementary school. In this study, after attending workshops on sustainability, the students developed robotic resources to help them with sustainability-related knowledge. The resources were tested according to their objectives: a mobile robot that recognizes the food and shows its footprint and a box with gas sensors to identify if food is in consumable condition or should be recycled. The experiment was very successful and is in a continuous application phase.

Open-world Semi-Supervised Learning (OSSL) is a realistic and challenging task, aiming to classify unlabeled samples from both seen and novel classes using partially labeled samples from the seen classes. Previous works typically explore the relationship of samples as priors on the pre-defined single-granularity labels to help novel class recognition. In fact, classes follow a taxonomy and samples can be classified at multiple levels of granularity, which contains more underlying relationships for supervision. We thus argue that learning with single-granularity labels results in sub-optimal representation learning and inaccurate pseudo labels, especially with unknown classes. In this paper, we take the initiative to explore and propose a uniformed framework, called Taxonomic context prIors Discovering and Aligning (TIDA), which exploits the relationship of samples under various granularity. It allows us to discover multi-granularity semantic concepts as taxonomic context priors (i.e., sub-class, target-class, and super-class), and then collaboratively leverage them to enhance representation learning and improve the quality of pseudo labels. Specifically, TIDA comprises two components: i) A taxonomic context discovery module that constructs a set of hierarchical prototypes in the latent space to discover the underlying taxonomic context priors; ii) A taxonomic context-based prediction alignment module that enforces consistency across hierarchical predictions to build the reliable relationship between classes among various granularity and provide additions supervision. We demonstrate that these two components are mutually beneficial for an effective OSSL framework, which is theoretically explained from the perspective of the EM algorithm. Extensive experiments on seven commonly used datasets show that TIDA can significantly improve the performance and achieve a new state of the art. This research is ongoing research into the student learning process which aims to develop artificial intelligence-based technology to calculate essay exam scores automatically, based on the textual proximity of students' answers to the answer key. This research uses an approach based on natural language processing (NLP) and text analysis. Feature extraction was carried out using the BERT model and similarity comparison using the Cosine distance method. Model evaluation was carried out using sensitivity and specificity tests. The model evaluation results show a sensitivity of 98.21%, which means this assessment model is able to detect positive cases well.

Virtual assistants are improving and providing consumers with greater advantages. The comprehension and fulfilment of requests by virtual assistants will increase as voice recognition and natural language processing continue to grow. Virtual assistants are projected to be employed in more commercial activities as speech recognition technology advances. The main goal of developing personal assistant software (virtual assistant) is to use web-based semantic data sources, user-generated content, and knowledge from knowledge libraries. Basically, main objective of making this Voice-Based Virtual Assistant is to make life easier and having a personal assistant to everyone which can perform many tasks. As the end user interacts with a virtual assistant, the AI programming learns from the data provided and improves its ability to forecast the end user's needs. Virtual assistants are often used to do things like add tasks to a calendar, provide information that would normally be found in a website, and operate and monitor Smart Home devices like lighting and cameras and thermostats. Massive volumes of data are required to fuel virtual assistant technologies, which feed Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms such as machine learning, natural language processing, and speech recognition. Speech recognition has a lengthy history and has seen several key advancements. On smartphones and wearable devices, speech recognition for dictation, search, and voice commands has become a standard feature. Design of a small, large vocabulary speech recognition system that can run quickly, accurately, and with minimum latency on mobile devices.

AgriField3D: A Curated 3D Point Cloud and Procedural Model Dataset of Field-Grown Maize from a Diversity Panel

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in three-dimensional (3D) agricultural research, particularly for maize, has been limited by the scarcity of large-scale, diverse datasets. While 2D image datasets are abundant, they fail to capture essential structural details such as leaf architecture, plant volume, and spatial arrangements that 3D data provide. To address this limitation, we present AgriField3D (website), a curated dataset of 3D point clouds of field-grown maize plants from a diverse genetic panel, designed to be AI-ready for advancing agricultural research. Our dataset comprises over 1,000 high-quality point clouds collected using a Terrestrial Laser Scanner, complemented by procedural models that provide structured, parametric representations of maize plants. These procedural models, generated using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) and optimized via a two-step process combining Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and differentiable programming, enable precise, scalable reconstructions of leaf surfaces and plant architectures. To enhance usability, we performed graph-based segmentation to isolate individual leaves and stalks, ensuring consistent labeling across all samples. We also conducted rigorous manual quality control on all datasets, correcting errors in segmentation, ensuring accurate leaf ordering, and validating metadata annotations. The dataset further includes metadata detailing plant morphology and quality, alongside multi-resolution subsampled versions (100k, 50k, 10k points) optimized for various computational needs. By integrating point cloud data of field grown plants with high-fidelity procedural models and ensuring meticulous manual validation, AgriField3D provides a comprehensive foundation for AI-driven phenotyping, plant structural analysis, and 3D applications in agricultural research. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

Interactive Segmentation (IS) segments specific objects or parts in the image according to user input. Current IS pipelines fall into two categories: single-granularity out-put and multi-granularity output. The latter aims to allevi-ate the spatial ambiguity present in the former. However, the multi-granularity output pipeline suffers from limited interaction flexibility and produces redundant results. In this work, we introduce Granularity-Controllable Interactive Segmentation (GraCo), a novel approach that allows precise control of prediction granularity by introducing ad-ditional parameters to input. This enhances the customization of the interactive system and eliminates redundancy while resolving ambiguity. Nevertheless, the exorbitant cost of annotating multi-granularity masks and the lack of avail-able datasets with granularity annotations make it difficult for models to acquire the necessary guidance to control out-put granularity. To address this problem, we design an any-granularity mask generator that exploits the semantic property of the pre-trained IS model to automatically gen-erate abundant mask-granularity pairs without requiring additional manual annotation. Based on these pairs, we propose a granularity-controllable learning strategy that efficiently imparts the granularity controllability to the IS model. Extensive experiments on intricate scenarios at ob-ject and part levels demonstrate that our GraCo has signifi-cant advantages over previous methods. This highlights the potential of GraCo to be a flexible annotation tool, capable of adapting to diverse segmentation scenarios. The project page: https://***/GraCo.
