The development of video analysis instrument to determine teacher's character

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable video analysis instrument to determine teachers’ character in the opening lesson in terms of its utterances and produce video analysis on micro-teaching that will be used in training related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). The type of research used is research and development. The subject of this research is the micro-teaching video of class E students’ batch 2019, Mathematics education Study program at Sanata Dharma University. The product of this research is a video analysis instrument to find out the character of the prospective teachers, such as confidence, enthusiasm, and happiness in terms of voice utterances. This study uses the ADDIE research model. The results show that the video analysis instrument has a validity value of 4.80 which means it's very valid. Video analysis instrument to find out the enthusiastic character has a value of validity of 4.70, which means it's very valid. Then, the video analysis instrument to find out the character of happiness has a validity value of 4.60 which means it's very valid. The practicality of the developed video analysis instrument meets the required criteria with a practicality value of 4.31. Overall, the video analysis instrument developed belongs to an effective category.

Automatic rigging of 3D models with stacked hourglass networks and descriptors

We put forward an approach for automated skeleton rigging of 3D point cloud models of segmented characters. Unlike earlier systems that fit predetermined skeleton templates or forecast predetermined sets of joints, our approach generates an animation skeleton that is tuned to the structure and geometry of the input 3D model. Our architecture is built on a stack of hourglass models trained using a large dataset of 3D-rigged characters mined from the web. It works with a volumetric representation of the input 3D shapes enhanced with geometric shape elements that provide different indications for joint and bone positions. The proposed method also allows straightforward user customization of the output skeleton’s level of detail. Our study shows that, compared to many alternatives and baselines, our approach predicts animation skeletons that are significantly more comparable to those made by people.

Polarization entanglement holds significant importance for photonic quantum technologies. Recently emerging subwavelength nonlinear quantum light sources, e.g., GaP and LiNbO3 thin films, benefiting from the relaxed phase-matching constraints and volume confinement, has shown intriguing properties, such as high-dimensional hyperentanglement and robust entanglement anti-degradation. Van der Waals (vdW) NbOCl2 crystal, renowned for its superior optical nonlinearities, has emerged as one of ideal candidates for ultrathin quantum light sources [Nature 613, 53 (2023)]. However, polarization-entanglement is inaccessible in NbOCl2 crystal due to its unfavorable nonlinear susceptibility tensor. Here, by leveraging the twist-stacking degree of freedom inherently in vdW systems, we showcase the preparation of tunable polarization entanglement and quantum Bell states. Our work not only provides a new and tunable polarization-entangled vdW photon-pair source, but also introduces a new knob in engineering the entanglement state of quantum light at the nanoscale. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Mobile devices have been playing an important role in changing how people have access to information. The use of mobile devices for educational purposes has been growing every day and, along with that, we can see how much Augmented Reality can contribute to the development of applications in this area. This work presents a case study carried out in Early Childhood education classes, in a school in the city of Mossoró/ RN, RN, Brazil, using the Cubo Kids application, which was developed with Augmented Reality technology, in order to expand the possibilities of teaching and learning. The research allowed us to observe that the application can bring great possibilities to the teaching of children at all levels of Early Childhood education.

An efficient multi-objective evolutionary approach for solving the operation of multi-reservoir system scheduling in hydro-power plants

This paper tackles the short-term hydro-power unit commitment problem in a multi-reservoir system - a cascade-based operation scenario. For this, we propose a new mathematical modelling in which the goal is to maximize the total energy production of the hydro-power plant in a sub-daily operation, and, simultaneously, to maximize the total water content (volume) of reservoirs. For solving the problem, we discuss the Multi-objective Evolutionary Swarm Hybridization (MESH) algorithm, a recently proposed multiobjective swarm intelligence-based optimization method which has obtained very competitive results when compared to existing evolutionary algorithms in specific applications. The MESH approach has been applied to find the optimal water discharge and the power produced at the maximum reservoir volume for all possible combinations of turbines in a hydro-power plant. The performance of MESH has been compared with that of well-known evolutionary approaches such as NSGA-II, NSGA-III, SPEA2, and MOEA/D in a realistic problem considering data from a hydro-power energy system with two cascaded hydro-power plants in Brazil. Results indicate that MESH showed a superior performance than alternative multi-objective approaches in terms of efficiency and accuracy, providing a profit of $412,500 per month in a projection analysis carried out. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze continued...challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative

Over 150 000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) every year, and annually over 50 000 individuals will die from CRC, necessitating improvements in screening, prognostication, disease management, and therapeutic options. Tumor metastasis is the primary factor related to the risk of recurrence and mortality. Yet, screening for nodal and distant metastasis is costly, and invasive and incomplete resection may hamper adequate assessment. Signatures of the tumor-immune microenvironment (TIME) at the primary site can provide valuable insights into the aggressiveness of the tumor and the effectiveness of various treatment options. Spatially resolved transcriptomics technologies offer an unprecedented characterization of TIME through high multiplexing, yet their scope is constrained by cost. Meanwhile, it has long been suspected that histological, cytological, and macroarchitectural tissue characteristics correlate well with molecular information (e.g., gene expression). Thus, a method for predicting transcriptomics data through inference of RNA patterns from whole slide images (WSI) is a key step in studying metastasis at scale. In this work, we collected tissue from 4 stage-III (pT3) matched colorectal cancer patients for spatial transcriptomics profiling. The Visium spatial transcriptomics (ST) assay was used to measure transcript abundance for 17 943 genes at up to 5000 55-micron (i.e., 1–10 cells) spots per patient sampled in a honeycomb pattern, co-registered with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained WSI. The Visium ST assay can measure expression at these spots through tissue permeabilization of mRNAs, which are captured through spatially (i.e., x–y positional coordinates) barcoded, gene specific oligo probes. WSI subimages were extracted around each co-registered Visium spot and were used to predict the expression at these spots using machine learning models. Recently, reported a comments on the our paper [Appl. Phys. Lett. 119, 142102(2021)]. With our response, the APL journal rejected their non scientificcomments. There are some ambiguities about their claim: 1-They can check thephonon dispersion of their structure to see ZA out-of-plane mode. 2-They reportthe uniaxial stress-strain responses in Fig 2., which is unrelated to ourpaper. For a more helpful understanding of the mechanical properties of thenovel C6N7 monolayer, they can publish a paper. 3-They mentioned: Using the DFTmethod and with assuming a thickness of 3.35 A for the C6N7 monolayer based ongraphene thickness. Indonesia is prone to natural disasters such as an earthquake. Many people are clueless regarding what to do when an earthquake occurs. An earthquake has caused a more devastating outcome due to it being able to lead to other hazards. The idea of developing a mobile application surfaced by reading and receiving inspiration from the previous research. Previous research has been implementing different kinds of ways to alert people regarding the upcoming earthquake. The development of a mobile application to provide a platform that will assist people with information on what to do in times of before, during, and after the earthquake. Therefore, people will have a source that they can turn to when seeking information about the steps to be done when an earthquake occurs. Besides, providing information apropos to earthquakes, the mobile application will send further alerts to the people that are in that specific area. Moreover, people will be able to be aware of the particular areas that they are in. The alerts sent will give information to the people so that they could evacuate to safety as soon as possible before the upcoming earthquake occurs. © 2019 IEEE.
