Palm vein pattern recognition offers a unique personal identification feature. Unfortunately, these techniques typically require a Near Infrared (NIR) camera sensor to extract the individual's venous pattern, challenging their wide deployment. This paper proposes a new feasible palm vein verification scheme using a Deep Autoencoder and a Siamese Network, implemented threefold. First, we capture the individual's palm using a traditional visible spectrum camera sensor and perform preprocessing tasks to correct imprecise positioning, easing palm support accessories requirements. Second, we eliminate NIR sensor requirement by fine-tuning a Deep Autoencoder model to convert images from the visible spectrum to their infrared counterparts. Third, generated images are processed by a lightweight Siamese network using a contrastive loss function for individual verification. Experiments conducted on a publicly available dataset with over a hundred individuals confirmed the feasibility of our proposal. Our scheme reaches up to 0.97 of true-negative rate, with only 0.01 decrease compared to traditional NIR-based approaches. In addition, individual identification can be conducted in less than 6 seconds in a resource-constrained environment thanks to our lightweight model's implementation.

News gives new insight and information from all over the world. News has many categories, such as politic, economy, science, and other common news categories. Every news will have their own category based on its content. The classification of news is usually done manually by inputting the category during the news posting. Some of the categories may be inputted incorrectly. The news classifier can be the solution for problem, but the news classifications out there are usually based on the news content. The classifier will receive the word vector inputs that are taken from the news content and try to classify it into one of certain categories. Unfortunately, news contents can be longer and harder to be processed rather than processing the news headline. The news headline is shorter and packs a decent information for the classifier to find out what category it is. Besides the news headline usage, the classifier also needs to be chosen correctly. In this paper, the SVC model will be tested using the news headline data to classify the news and compare with several other models, such as Linear Regression, Multinomial Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, and Random Forest. The common variables to be compared are the accuracy, recall, and precision to evaluate the SVC model. © 2022 IEEE.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Over the past few years, several highly accurate Machine Learning (ML) techniques have been proposed for Android malware detection. Unfortunately, proposed schemes are rarely used in production, a situation usually caused by their limited generalization capabilities, leading to low accuracies when deployed. This paper proposes a new multi-view Android malware detection model, implemented in two stages. First, we extract multiple feature sets from an analyzed Android application package. The feature sets provide a complementary Android app behavioral vector for the classification task, enhancing the system's generalization. Secondly, we conduct a multi-objective optimization to select the optimal feature subset from each view for subsequent ensemble-based classification. Our proposal's insight is to proactively select each feature subset that simultaneously improves accuracy and reduces processing requirements in a multi-view setting. Experiments on our new dataset, comprising over 40 thousand Android app samples, demonstrated the feasibility of our proposal. Our scheme can improve true-positive rates by an average of 4.4 while demanding only up to 65% of inference processing costs.

One of the major tasks of natural language processing is sentiment analysis. The web is a source of unstructured and rich informa-tion with thousands of opinions and reviews. Individuals, businesses, and governments can all benefit from recognizing sentiment. As part of this study, we propose a deep learning-based approach for sentiment analysis on drug product review data obtained from the UCI machine learning repository. As an alternative to deep learning models, this architecture integrates glove word embedding with convolutional neural networks (CNN). Word2vec and GloVe word embedding schemes have been evaluated empirically for their predictive performance in CNN architectures. Based on a comparison of the deep learning architecture with RoBERTa, itcan be seen that BERT architecture outperforms both of them in training and validation. However, CNN models using Glove word embedding provided superior results in testing. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

The city of Jakarta is getting more and more congested and crowded by the number and types of vehicles. Lack of public awareness to use public transportation causes this congestion to worsen, especially during rush hours in the morning before going to work or school and in the afternoon when returning home. This is also caused by the lack of the government of the capital city of Jakarta in providing cheap, safe, and comfortable public transportation. It is not surprising that the Indonesian government has plans to move the capital city of the Indonesian government from Jakarta on the island of Java to East Kalimantan on the island of Kalimantan. Therefore, seeing this severe traffic jam, it is essential to propose an application that can reduce congestion so that drivers who bring their vehicles can share with people around them to travel to work as a routine activity during weekdays. The model of this vehicle sharing application was designed using use case diagrams, and the database design was designed using class diagrams. In addition, security issues are also significant considering that people meet in this vehicle sharing application, and some bad people may take advantage of it. Therefore user registration and moderation are essential. It is hoped that this vehicle sharing application will reduce congestion in the capital city of Jakarta and become an example in other cities. © 2022 IEEE.

In Internet of Things (IoT) applications, data flows are continuous streams of high-dimensional time series that aggregate various data sources. In this context, decision-making processes frequently encompass multiple factors and criteria that demand forecasting these time series. This paper introduces MO-WMVFTS, a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fuzzy time series (FTS) method for tackling this complex scenario. MO-WMVFTS is a hybrid forecasting method that fuses weighted multivariate FTS (WMVFTS) with embedding transformations, designed for IoT applications. To assess the performance of the proposed method, it was applied to the prediction of energy consumption in smart homes and air quality in smart cities. Here, three real-world datasets are used to assess the validity of our proposed approach, and the results obtained are highly competitive when compared to other existing methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Biosurfactants are amphiphilic biomolecules with promising tensoative and emulsifying properties that find application in the most varied industrial sectors: environment, food, agriculture, petroleum, cosmetics, and hygiene. In the current work, a 23 full-factorial design was performed to evaluate the effect and interactions of pineapple peel and corncob as substrates for biosurfactant production by Bacillus subtilis LMA-ICF-PC 001. In a previous stage, an alkaline pretreatment was applied to corncob samples to extract the xylose-rich hydrolysate. The results indicated that pineapple peel extract and xylose-rich hydrolysate acted as partial glucose substitutes, minimizing production costs with exogenous substrates. Biosurfactant I (obtained at 8.11% pineapple peel extract, 8.11% xylose-rich hydrolysate from corncob, and 2.8109 g/L glucose) exhibited a significant surface tension reduction (52.37%) and a promising bioremediation potential (87.36%). On the other hand, biosurfactant III (obtained at 8.11% pineapple peel extract, 31.89% xylose-rich hydrolysate from corncob, and 2.8109 g/L glucose) exhibited the maximum emulsification index in engine oil (69.60%), the lowest critical micellar concentration (68 mg/L), and the highest biosurfactant production (5.59 g/L). These findings demonstrated that using pineapple peel extract and xylose-rich hydrolysate from corncob effectively supports biosurfactant synthesis by B. subtilis, reinforcing how agro-industrial wastes can substitute traditional carbon sources, contributing to cost reduction and environmental sustainability. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Quantifying the effect of mutations in the BRCA1 gene is useful for understanding their clinical consequences on breast cancer. Machine learning models can be applied to predict the landscape of protein variant effects that might not be always accessible by experiments. In this work, we propose a simple semi-supervised learning method using a Gaussian mixture model to predict ~90% of the unlabeled missense variants of the BRCA1 gene collected from the ClinVar database. High-quality embeddings are used as a feature of the protein sequences, extracted using the latest pre-trained transformer-based language protein model. A statistical test show that the protein embeddings are effective and robust for predicting pathogenicity. Further, the lower representations of the features are then fed into the semi-supervised model. The prediction performance of the model only for the labeled testing data achieves an AUC score and an accuracy of 79.27% and 71.58%, respectively. Using our defined pathogenic probability score, we find that ~94% of variants in our unlabeled dataset are well-separated into either benign or pathogenic classes according to that scoring. Our scores obtain a moderate Spearman rank correlation with the results of established unsupervised variant effect models. Finally, our approach can potentially be developed for more accurate and biologically reliable predictions of the variant effects. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Conventionally, assessing people's personality done by psychology experts requires more time and effort. Hence automatic personality prediction is starting to get noticed by researchers. Nowadays, many people engage themselves in social media platforms, one of which is Twitter. This platform stores actions done in this media which reflect one's personality. This research focuses on improving the performance of personality prediction models based on machine learning algorithms, by augmenting the dataset using Easy Data Augmentation to overcome imbalance dataset, thereafter combining n-grams with POS-tag weighted by TF-IDF. Results show that this method outperforms other machine learning approaches and decreases bias, with a maximum of 72.62% of the best average accuracy and 72.72% best average Fl score using Support Vector Machine classifier. The second-best model is obtained by XGBoost and, lastly, Naive Bayes classifier. Overall, this study shows that data augmentation with the addition of POS-tag feature is evident in improving the performance of personality prediction models. However, larger data is needed. © 2022 IEEE.
