Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) refers to the use of AI to automate the information creation process while fulfilling the personalized requirements of users. However, due to the instability of AIGC models, e.g., the stochastic nature of diffusion models, the quality and accuracy of the generated content can vary significantly. In wireless edge networks, the transmission of incorrectly generated content may unnecessarily consume network resources. Thus, a dynamic AIGC service provider (ASP) selection scheme is required to enable users to connect to the most suited ASP, improving the users’ satisfaction and quality of generated content. In this article, we first review the AIGC techniques and their applications in wireless networks. We then present the AIGC-as-a-service (AaaS) concept and discuss the challenges in deploying AaaS at the edge networks. Yet, it is essential to have performance metrics to evaluate the accuracy of AIGC services. Thus, we introduce several image-based perceived quality evaluation metrics. Then, we propose a general and effective model to illustrate the relationship between computational resources and user-perceived quality evaluation metrics. To achieve efficient AaaS and maximize the quality of generated content in wireless edge networks, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-enabled algorithm for the optimal ASP selection. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a higher quality of generated content to users and achieve fewer crashed tasks by comparing with four benchmarks, i.e., overloading-avoidance, random, round-robin policies, and the upper-bound schemes. © 2023, CC BY.

Understanding, predicting and controlling laminar-turbulent boundary-layer transition is crucial for the next generation aircraft design. However, in real flight experiments, or wind tunnel tests, often only sparse sensor measurements can be collected at fixed locations. Thus, in developing reduced models for predicting and controlling the flow at the sensor locations, the main challenge is in accounting for how the surrounding field of unobserved (or unresolved) variables interacts with the observed (or resolved) variables at the fixed sensor locations. This makes the Mori-Zwanzig (MZ) formalism a natural choice, as it results in the Generalized Langevin Equations which provides a mathematically sound framework for constructing non-Markovian reduced-order models that include the effects the unresolved variables have on the resolved variables. These effects are captured in the so called memory kernel and orthogonal dynamics, which, when using Mori's linear projection, provides a higher order approximation to the traditional approximate Koopman learning methods. In this work, we explore recently developed data-driven methods for extracting the MZ operators to two boundary-layer flows obtained from high resolution data;a low speed incompressible flow over a flat plate exhibiting bypass transition;and a high speed compressible flow over a flared cone at Mach 6 and zero angle of attack where transition was initiated using a broadband forcing approach ("natural" transition). In each case, an array of "sensors" are placed near the surface of the solid boundary, and the MZ operators are learned and the predictions are compared to the Extended Dynamic Mode Decomposition (EDMD), both using delay embedded coordinates. Further comparisons are made with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and a regression based projection framework using neural networks for the MZ operators. We have successfully demonstrated, for the first time, an innovative back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible electro-optic modulator and memory (EOMM) based on Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) micro-ring resonator (MRR) integrated with Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconate Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O (HZO) non-volatile analog memory. High non-volatile memory and modulation performances are both achieved in a single compact device, exhibiting high extinction ratio of 13.3 dB, excellent efficiency of 66pm/V, stable nine-state switching, record-high endurance exceeding 10 9 cycles. This is accomplished by utilizing Pockels effect in LNOI, induced by electric-field effect from remnant HZO ferroelectric polarization. We studied the system implementation of reconfigurable chiplet-interposer photonic interconnect, enabled by the EOMM and EOMM with hybrid thermal-optical modulation. Our model shows a potential 70% energy efficiency improvement over conventional electrical interposer interconnect. We have also tested the integration of the EOMM with POET technologies’ 400G Tx/Rx optical interposer chip and studied a limited scale demonstration of the EOMM device.

Data-Driven Mori-Zwanzig: Approaching a Reduced Order Model for Hypersonic Boundary Layer Transition

In this work, we apply, for the first time to spatially inhomogeneous flows, a recently developed data-driven learning algorithm of Mori-Zwanzig (MZ) operators, which is based on a generalized Koopman’s description of dynamical systems. The MZ formalism provides a mathematically exact procedure for constructing non-Markovian reduced-order models of resolved variables from high-dimensional dynamical systems, where the effects due to the unresolved dynamics are captured in the memory kernel and orthogonal dynamics. The algorithm developed in this work applies Mori’s linear projection operator and an SVD based compression to the selection of the resolved variables (equivalently, a low rank approximation of the two time covariance matrices). We show that this MZ decomposition not only identifies the same spatio-temporal structures found by DMD, but it can also be used to extract spatio-temporal structures of the hysteresis effects present in the memory kernels. We perform an analysis of these structures in the context of a laminar-turbulent boundary-layer transition flow over a flared cone at Mach 6, and show the dynamical relevance of the memory kernels. Additionally, by including these memory terms learned in our data-driven MZ approach, we show improvement in prediction accuracy over DMD at the same level of truncation and at a similar computational cost. Furthermore, an analysis of the spatio-temporal structures of the MZ operators shows identifiable structures associated with the nonlinear generation of the so-called "hot" streaks on the surface of the flared cone, which have previously been observed in experiments and direct numerical simulations. We introduce the Mori-Zwanzig (MZ) Modal Decomposition (MZMD), a novel technique for performing modal analysis of large scale spatio-temporal structures in complex dynamical systems, and show that it represents an efficient generalization of Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD). The MZ formalism provides a mathematical framework for constructing non-Markovian reduced-order models of resolved variables from high-dimensional dynamical systems, incorporating the effects of unresolved dynamics through the memory kernel and orthogonal dynamics. We present a formulation and analysis of the modes and spectrum from MZMD and compare it to DMD when applied to a complex flow: a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data-set of laminar-turbulent boundary-layer transition flow over a flared cone at Mach 6. We show that the addition of memory terms by MZMD improves the resolution of spatio-temporal structures within the transitional/turbulent regime, which contains features that arise due to nonlinear mechanisms, such as the generation of the so-called "hot" streaks on the surface of the flared cone. As a result, compared to DMD, MZMD improves future state prediction accuracy, while requiring nearly the same computational cost. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Fisher Geometry and Geodesics of the Multivariate Normals, without Differential Geometry

Choosing the Fisher information as the metric tensor for a Riemannian manifold provides a powerful yet fundamental way to understand statistical distribution families. Distances along this manifold become a compelling measure of statistical distance, and paths of shorter distance improve sampling techniques that leverage a sequence of distributions in their operation. Unfortunately, even for a distribution as generally tractable as the multivariate normal distribution, this information geometry proves unwieldy enough that closed-form solutions for shortest-distance paths or their lengths remain unavailable outside of limited special cases. In this review we present for general statisticians the most practical aspects of the Fisher geometry for this fundamental distribution family. Rather than a differential geometric treatment, we use an intuitive understanding of the covariance-induced curvature of this manifold to unify the special cases with known closed-form solution and review approximate solutions for the general case. We also use the multivariate normal information geometry to better understand the paths or distances commonly used in statistics (annealing, Wasserstein). Deriving enhanced geographical representations via similarity-based spectral analysis: Predicting colorectal cancer survival curves in Iowa

Neural networks are capable of learning rich, nonlinear feature representations shown to be beneficial in many predictive tasks. In this work, we use such models to explore different geographical feature representations in the context of predicting colorectal cancer survival curves for patients in the state of Iowa, spanning the years 1989 to 2013. Specifically, we compare model performance using area between the curves (ABC) to assess (a) whether survival curves can be reasonably predicted for colorectal cancer patients in the state of Iowa, (b) whether geographical features improve predictive performance, (c) whether a simple binary representation, or a richer, spectral analysiselicited representation perform better, and (d) whether spectral analysis-based representations can be improved upon by leveraging geographically-descriptive features. In exploring (d), we devise a similarity-based spectral analysis procedure, which allows for the combination of geographically relational and geographically descriptive features. Our findings suggest that survival curves can be reasonably estimated on average, with predictive performance deviating at the five-year survival mark among all models. We also find that geographical features improve predictive performance, and that better performance is obtained using richer, spectral analysis-elicited features. Furthermore, we find that similaritybased spectral analysis-elicited representations improve upon the original spectral analysis results by approximately 40%. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset.

A multi-agent system for optimizing physiological collection based on adaptive strategies

Wearable devices have emerged from the evolution of communication and information technology, along with the miniaturization of electronic components. These devices monitor the user's physiology on a periodic basis and generally have low battery autonomy. This article proposes the Odin system, a multi-agent system that performs real-time analysis of physiological data in order to adapt the collection according to the user's health condition. Two types of adaptation were proposed in terms of adapting the collection. The first, wait-time adaptation (WTA), consists of collecting physiological data through a sensor defined as the main sensor, where the frequency of the collection is based on the user's condition. Meanwhile, the second, paused sensors adaptation (PSA), manages the activation status of secondary sensors when the main sensor suggests a possible risk to the user's health. An evaluation was implemented through two steps. First, a simulation was performed with requests control to optimize the parameters of the data collection. These results showed an increase of 214% in battery life in the adaptive scenario compared to one with no adaptivity. Second, Odin's adaptivity was evaluated in terms of a real dataset, which allowed for the reduction of the number of requests. This reduction optimized the battery consumption, with a 66% improvement over data collection with no adaptivity. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
