Air pollution makes it worse in populated regions. Indonesia's major cities are also impacted by air pollution. Due to rising traffic, material consumption by vehicles, industrial growth, land burning, and garbage collection, air quality has altered significantly. Accurate measurement and classification of air quality are required. Results of accurate classification aid in forming governmental regulations. To reach the criteria for livable air quality, we intend to manage controls. Some of the characteristics of air pollution include particulate (PM10) or PM25, sulfides (in the form of SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), and nitrites (NO2). Using the XGBoost algorithm and synthetic minority oversampling (SMOTE) methods based on the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) category, this study seeks to uncover factors that affect air quality. XGBoost, an ensemble machine learning approach built on a decision tree and applying a gradient reinforcement framework, is the classification algorithm in use. Air quality categorization has been tested and shown to work with the XGBoost algorithm. The dataset used in this study is air quality in 2021 which was collected by the Jakarta Environmental Ministry The proposed classification model will be evaluated using the Repeated k-fold cross-validation method for objective results. The results of the study prove that SMOTE and XGBoost have better performance than using only the XGBoost method in predicting air quality, where the overall accuracy value of SMOTE with XGBoost is 99.60%, The overall precision value is 99.60%, the overall recall value is 99.60% and the overall f1-score is 99.60% and the overall ROC AUC value is 99.96%. The overall SMOTE method with the proposed XGBoost has given better performance in air pollution prediction. © 2022 IEEE.

Technology to automatically synthesize linguistically accurate and natural-looking animations of American Sign Language (ASL) from an easy-to-update script would make it easier to add ASL content to websites and media, thereby increasing information accessibility for many people who are deaf. We are investigating the synthesis of ASL facial expressions, which are grammatically required and essential to the meaning of sentences. To support this research, we have enhanced a virtual human character with face controls following the MPEG-4 Facial Action Parameter standard. In a user-study, we determined that these controls were sufficient for conveying understandable animations of facial expressions.

This paper presents our experiments for integrating OMG MIOP (Mullicast Inter-ORB Protocol) specifications into a CORBA ORB. We proposed an integration model which allows the coexistence of two different protocol stacks (IIOP/TCP/IP and MIOP/UDP/IP multicast), making possible a large spectrum of middleware support for distributed objects communication. That integration model is discussed in this paper, giving evidence of the compatibility of our approach with the CORBA specifications. We also do some considerations about the implementation of this model in a CORBA compliant ORB. © 2003 IEEE.

Biomechanics plays an integral role in cancer development and progression. Accurately quantifying the mechanical properties of cells would enable a more comprehensive understanding of cancer, complementing conventional biochemical and genetic analyses. Here, we introduce a microfluidic platform for measuring single cell viscoelasticity at multiple frequencies in a high-throughput and label-free manner. Using the Coulter principal and a unique microfluidic channel geometry, our device records resistance pulses in order to estimate a cell's viscoelastic phenotype. The next generation of wireless sensor networks will integrate communication systems beyond the third generation paradigm. As a result of this integration, the new communication systems will be fed by the sensor networks with information gathered from the environment, achieving context awareness. To reach the necessary end-to-end connectivity between all-IP networks and sensor networks, the IETF 6LoWPAN working group has designed an IPv6 adaptation layer for low power devices. This protocol stack provides IPv6 interoperability to the sensor networks, thus avoiding as much overhead as possible. This paper analyses and evaluates the associated IP communication overhead in each possible 6LoWPAN scenario, from intra to inter network communication. We conclude that, even the 6LoWPAN offering a light weight IP solution for link local sensor network communication, it has a relatively high overhead when data flows between different networks. In order to avoid the communication overhead when global IPv6 addressing is necessary we propose a new solution based on a 6LoWPAN global-to-link-layer address translation.

When providing patient care, healthcare professionals often rely on interpreting laboratory and clinical test results. However, their analysis is constrained by human capacity, leading to uncertainties in diagnoses. Machine learning has the potential to evaluate a larger amount of data and identify patterns and relationships that may otherwise go unnoticed. However, popular machine learning algorithms typically require abundant and labeled data, which is not always available. To address this challenge, the adoption of active learning allows for the selection of the most relevant instances for training, reducing the need for extensive labeling. Additionally, fuzzy logic offers the ability to handle uncertainties. This paper proposes a novel approach that utilizes fuzzy membership functions to transform data as a pre-processing step for active learning. The objective is to approximate similar instances, specifically for the purpose of prediction, thereby minimizing the workload of human experts in labeling data for model training. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in predicting heart disease and highlight the potential of using membership functions to enhance machine learning models in the analysis of medical information. By incorporating fuzzy logic and active learning, healthcare professionals can benefit from improved accuracy and efficiency in diagnosing and predicting pacients’ health conditions. © 2024 – IOS Press.

This paper proposes the use of local histograms (LH) over character n-grams for authorship attribution (AA). LHs are enriched histogram representations that preserve sequential information in documents;they have been successfully used for text categorization and document visualization using word histograms. In this work we explore the suitability of LHs over n-grams at the character-level for AA. We show that LHs are particularly helpful for AA, because they provide useful information for uncovering, to some extent, the writing style of authors. We report experimental results in AA data sets that confirm that LHs over character n-grams are more helpful for AA than the usual global histograms, yielding results far superior to state of the art approaches. We found that LHs are even more advantageous in challenging conditions, such as having imbalanced and small training sets. Our results motivate further research on the use of LHs for modeling the writing style of authors for related tasks, such as authorship verification and plagiarism detection. © 2011 Association for Computational Linguistics.

THE EFFECT OF VISUAL APPEAL, SOCIAL INTERACTION, ENJOYMENT, AND COMPETITION ON MOBILE ESPORTS ACCEPTANCE BY URBAN CITIZENS

Aim/Purpose This study investigated a model of mobile esports acceptance among urban citizens based on an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Background Currently, esports are increasingly popular and in demand by the public. Supported by the widespread development of mobile devices, it has become an interactive market trend to play games in a new model, mobile esports. Methodology This study collected data from 400 respondents and analyzed it using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Contribution This study addresses two research gaps. The first gap is limited esports information systems studies, particularly in mobile esports acceptance studies. The second gap is limited exploration of external variables in online gaming acceptance studies. Thus, this study proposed a TAM extended model by integrating the TAM native variables with other external variables such as visual appeal, enjoyment, social interaction, and competition to explore mobile esports acceptance by urban citizens. Findings Nine hypotheses were accepted, and four were rejected. The visual appeal did not affect the acceptance. Meanwhile, social interaction and enjoyment significantly affected both perceived ease of use and usefulness. However, perceived ease of use surprisingly had an insignificant effect on attitude toward using mobile esports. Moreover, competition significantly affected the acceptance, particularly on perceived usefulness. Recommendations Fresh and innovative features, such as new game items or themes, should be frefor Practitioners quently introduced to enhance players’ continued enjoyment. Badminton is a very popular subject in Physical Education (PE). Many students enroll badminton courses in every semester which pose a tremendous teaching load to the instructors. The one-on-one guiding/feedback time provided by the instructor to each student is also greatly reduced. To overcome this challenge, some studies have tried to adopt pose recognition technique in teaching badminton. However, the lack of mobility and recognition accuracy problems hinder its applicability. To address this issue, a new pose recognition technique, OpenPose, was employed to develop a real-time pose recognition badminton teaching APP in this study. The APP was then installed on a mobile device to enhance badminton smash skill learning performance. The scores distribution of the experimental group shows majority of students achieved satisfactory performance, this implies the badminton teaching APP is helpful to all students no matter what their initial skill levels are. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
