The physiological signs are a reliable source to identify stress states, and wearable sensors provide precise identification of physiological signs associated with the stress occurrence. The literature review shows that the use of physiological signs as a source for stress patterns identification is still a critical investigation subject. Few studies evaluate the effect of combining several different signals and the implications of the data acquisition procedures and details. This article’s objective is to investigate the possible integration of data obtained from heart rate variability, electrocardiographic, electrodermal activity, and electromyography to detect stress patterns, considering a new experimental protocol to data acquisition. The data acquisition involved the Trier Social Stress Test, wearable sensor monitoring, and complementary stress perception instruments, resulting in a publicly available dataset. This dataset was evaluated using different machine learning classifiers, considering the obtained annotated data and exploring different physiological features and their combinations. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper presents a new transistor placement method applied to the ASTRAN EDA tool, an open-source solution for the automatic design of complex digital gates. Although it currently reaches an optimized solution through a Threshold Accepting approach, ASTRAN does not guarantee a minimum-width placement. In this paper, a method based on Boolean satisfiability is proposed, ensuring an optimal solution for the transistor placement task through modeling the problem into a set of Boolean variables and clauses aware of four design rule constraints. Experiments comparing the proposed method and the current ASTRAN placement technique have shown reductions in the layout area. Furthermore, our method achieved a significant improvement regarding runtime, an essential feature for designing digital circuits and systems on-demand. © 2020 IEEE

We propose a high-level, behavior-based control architecture for an autonomous sailboat that enables efficacy in mission execution under diverse weather conditions, maintaining energy autonomy, while allowing the use of data driven models for learning behavioral tasks. Inspired by subsumption, this novel architecture employs hierarchical behaviors acquired through the use of the proximal policy optimization, mostly known as PPO, which is a reinforcement learning based technique. Its validity and efficacy is assessed through digital emulation of the vessel’s behaviors in the Gazebo simulation environment, combined with the ROS framework and GYM Gazebo, thus mitigating complexities and costs associated with real-world sailing operations. The successful results facilitate the creation of a resilient and versatile sailing vessel capable of handling missions without requiring the user to master navigation specifics, naval procedures, or corner cases.

Computational music research plays a critical role in advancing music production, distribution, and understanding across various musical styles in the world. Despite the immense cultural and religious significance, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) chants are relatively underrepresented in computational music research. This paper contributes to this field by introducing a new dataset specifically tailored for the analysis of EOTC chants, also known as Yaredawi Zema. This work provides a comprehensive overview of a 10-hour dataset, 369 instances, creation, and curation process, including rigorous quality assurance measures. Our dataset has a detailed word-level temporal boundary and reading tone annotation along with the corresponding chanting mode label of audios. Moreover, we have also identified the chanting options associated with multiple chanting notations in the manuscript by annotating them accordingly. Our goal in making this dataset available to the public1 is to encourage more research and study of EOTC chants, including lyrics transcription, lyric-to-audio alignment, and music generation tasks. Such research work will advance knowledge and efforts to preserve this distinctive liturgical music, a priceless cultural artifact for the Ethiopian people. © 2024, CC BY.

Health education is crucial for the community, especially the younger generation, because adolescent behavior/lifestyle will carry over into adulthood, and it is difficult to change it. This paper proposes designing and implementing a mobile application for young people for healthy lifestyle education. This mobile application implemented with the android studio is designed using use case diagrams to describe the business processes of this mobile application. In addition, activity diagrams describe the process details of each activity use case, and class diagrams describe the design of the database model, which is implemented using a MySQL database. © 2022 IEEE.

While several content management systems (CMS) and audience analytics tools are available for digital signage in the market, they are often sold separately and can be expensive. Therefore, this project aims to design a cost-effective and unified web-based solution for digital signage that combines content management and audience analytics functions, reducing the need for multiple purchases. This can be achieved by utilizing Raspberry Pi technology, known for its cost-effectiveness and versatility in integrations, along with a face recognition camera and machine learning methods. This proof of concept demonstrates the integration of these components to create a dynamic digital signage system. Overall, this project has the potential to offer an affordable solution for companies aiming to efficiently manage and optimize their digital marketing strategies, especially in the Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) Advertising space. © 2023 IEEE.

In one-dimensional quantum emitter systems, the dynamics of atomic excitations are influenced by the collective coupling between emitters through photon-mediated dipole-dipole interactions. By introducing positional disorders in a portion of the atomic array, we investigate the delocalization phenomena at the interface between the disordered and clean zones. The excitation is initialized as symmetric Dicke states in the disordered zone, and several measures are used to quantify the excitation localization. We first use population imbalance and half-chain entropy to investigate the excitation dynamics under time evolutions, and further investigate the crossover of excitation localization to delocalization via the gap ratio from the eigenspectrum in the reciprocal coupling case. In particular, we study the participation ratio of the whole chain and the photon loss ratio between both ends of the atomic chain, which can be used to quantify the delocalization crossover in the nonreciprocal coupling cases. Furthermore, by increasing the overall size or the ratio of the disordered zone under a fixed number of the whole chain, we observe that excitation localization occurs at a smaller disorder strength in the former case, while in the latter, facilitation of the delocalization appears when a significant ratio of the clean zone to disordered zone is applied. Our results can reveal the competition between the clean zone and the disordered zone sizes on localization phenomenon, give insights to nonequilibrium dynamics in the emitter-waveguide interface, and provide potential applications in quantum information processing.

The capacity to deceptively move in hilly terrains is fundamental to agents in simulation systems for tactical and strategic military training. Such an ability to deceive the adversary can ensure a relevant advantage by hiding the real goals of a mission. Using pairs of real and deceptive mission goals, this paper investigates the planning of realistic deceptive routes for simulated agents. With real-world terrain elevation maps, it shows how to explore pathfinding algorithms with relevant path-smoothing characteristics (Theta* and WJPS*, contrasting with the standard $A^{*}$ algorithm) in terrains with pronounced relief features. The study analyzes the effects of terrain elevation costs and the representation of relief contour lines on the determination of more realistic deceptive paths. This work also investigates how users can adjust a Last Topographic Deceptive Point ($L D P_{T}$) calculation to enhance the pathfinding algorithm’s ability to produce more deceptively dense and topographically aware routes. Experimental results for different deceptive topographic path planning strategies are evaluated according to statistical models showing that Theta*, despite being slower than the base $A^{*}$ method in most cases, generated smoothed paths while maintaining a similar deception density for the proposed strategies. On the other hand, WJPS outperformed both in execution time for certain strategies while maintaining the smoothed path characteristic and resulting in a path with lower deceptive capacity.

In the digital transformation era, Metaverse offers a fusion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and web technologies to create immersive digital experiences. However, the evolution of the Metaverse is slowed down by the challenges of content creation, scalability, and dynamic user interaction. Our study investigates an integration of Mixture of Experts (MoE) models with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for mobile edge computing to revolutionize content creation and interaction in the Metaverse. Specifically, we harness an MoE model's ability to efficiently manage complex data and complex tasks by dynamically selecting the most relevant experts running various sub-models to enhance the capabilities of GAI. We then present a novel framework that improves video content generation quality and consistency, and demonstrate its application through case studies. Our findings underscore the efficacy of MoE and GAI integration to redefine virtual experiences by offering a scalable, efficient pathway to harvest the Metaverse's full potential. © 2024, CC BY.

Several real-world optimization problems manipulate discrete variables, involve with many objectives and vary along the time, that is, they are dynamic. Recent works have focused on investigate dynamic multiobjective optimization problems (DMOPs), which adds an additional challenge to the search convergence. Some evolutionary strategies have emerged based on the adaptation of consagrated multiobjective algorithms previously proposed for static continuous optimization problems, such as, NSGA-II and MOEA/D. This work presents a novel evolutionary algorithm for dynamic discrete many-objective problems named D-MEANDS. It uses the subjacent search proposed in MEANDS. This algorithm has been successfully investigated in static MOPs and herein we propose some adaptations to be used in DMOPs. A comparative analysis of the new proposal is made using two DMOP evolutionary algorithms from the literature: DNSGA-II and MS-MOEA. A dynamic many-objective version of the knapsack problem (KP), known as dynamic multiobjective knapsack problem (DMKP), was explored. Results using DMKP formulations with 4 and 6 objectives suggest that D-MEANDS is a promising algorithm to deal with DMOPs with many objectives.
