The mobile games market has grown in relevancy compared to traditional gaming platforms. The standard architecture for these games requires the processing of game logic and graphics using the device's own hardware. Alternatively, cloud based architectures for remote gaming on smartphones present high game input delay at a high cost for the service provider. This poses a limitation to the variety and complexity of games that target these platforms as well as constraining user QoE. To address that limitation, this work proposes the Gaming On The Edge (GOTE) architecture, that aims to enable complex games to be played on smartphone devices while leveraging edge computing infrastructure into graphics processing and content distribution systems. A GOTE architecture's proof of concept is developed and tested using WebRTC with an RTP streaming pipeline that exploits NVENC for achieving low latency video encoding. Experimental results show that GOTE architecture is a viable alternative to cloud based remote gaming on smartphones at the advantage of lowering latency of video and game input. Protein Structure Prediction (PSP) problem is an open problem in bioinformatics and, as the problem scales, complexity and processing time increases. In this way, robust methods and massively parallel architectures are required. This paper presents a GPU-based hybrid algorithm, named cuHjDE, to handle the 2D-AB off-lattice PSP problem. The cuHjDE is composed of the jDE algorithm and the Hooke-Jeeves local search algorithm. An important feature present in the cuHjDE algorithm is the use of a crowding mechanism to avoid premature convergence promoting diversification in the search space. The proposed algorithm is compared with four state-of-the-art algorithms in both artificial and real proteins. Also, the impact of using GPU is analyzed. Experimental results point out that the proposed approach is competitive in artificial sequences and achieved new best results for all real sequence proteins. © 2019 IEEE.

Nowadays, one of the challenges of communications systems is to enhance spectrum utilization and data rate without robustness loses. This situation is more perceptive in digital television applications, since there is a constant need of providing better experiences to the users with the transmission of higher resolution videos. In this context, novel approaches for the physical layer of such systems are subject of intense research, including investigation on the effect of replacing the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique currently used by other modulation schemes such as Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC). This article presents a novel FBMC based frame implementation for the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial Version B (ISDB-TB), developed as a software defined radio (SDR). The results show the robustness and rate gains of FBMC and prove that ISDB-TB frame can be modified to enhance the performance in Digital TV applications. © 2021 IEEE.

This study introduces the Quantum-Train Quantum Fast Weight programmer (QT-QFWP) framework, enabling efficient and scalable programming of variational quantum circuits (VQCs) through quantum-driven parameter updates for the classical slow programmer controlling the fast programmer VQC. By optimizing quantum and classical parameter management, QT-QFWP significantly reduces parameters (by 70–90%) compared to Quantum Long Short-Term Memory (QLSTM) and Quantum Fast Weight programmer (QFWP) while maintaining accuracy. Benchmarking on time-series tasks—including Damped Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM), NARMA5, and Simulated Gravitational Waves (GW)—demonstrates superior efficiency and predictive accuracy. QT-QFWP is particularly advantageous for near-term quantum systems, addressing qubit and gate fidelity constraints, enhancing VQC deployment in time-sensitive applications, and expanding quantum computing’s role in machine learning.

The photovoltaic maximum power point tracking using perturb and observe method has a fixed step size, where a small step size has a slower time response and more accurate steady-state, while a large step size is the opposite. This work proposes an adaptive step size, proportional to the difference between actual and previous power sample, providing a fast time response and reducing the oscillations at steady-state. The oscillations are smaller with adaptive step size, but they are not annulled and the method presents loss by power oscillations. The clustering is used to eliminate this loss, setting the result of the simple average of the last five voltage samples. The enhanced method has been tested on a 72-cell photovoltaic module with a smart bypass diode per cell under partial shading. Modeling and simulation have been implemented using MATLAB/Simulink. The proposal obtained a faster time response and elimination of oscillations at steady-state. © 2019 IEEE.

The environmental indicators provide significant information in order to describe the state of a phenomenon, environment or area [1]. This paper addresses the indicators present in the air and their relationship in the accommodation and transmission of viruses, as well as how these environmental indicators can lead to health problems. Therefore, the main goal of this work is to review the scientific contributions in the literature in order to determine and select the potential environmental indicators present in indoor environments which have an impact on the health of people who work and live within these spaces. For this purpose, we carried out a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) related to environmental monitoring, COVID-19, Internet of things, air pollution and environmental indicators within indoor spaces. This SLR allowed us to identify indicators that according to their level of presence can represent a high risk for people's health. Therefore, the process of planning, conducting and reporting the Systematic Literature Review enabled us not only to identify some environmental indicators, but also their corresponding monitoring advantages and disadvantages, and multiple perspectives and approaches of each contribution in the literature. Further on, this study will be the basis for the proposal of an automatic and intelligent platform based on Internet of Things for monitoring indoor environments in order to detect high risk levels for the contamination of contagious diseases. © 2023 ITMA.

Studies have been indicating the use of digital resources for interventions with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), especially when it comes to supporting communication and social interaction. However, there is research that suggests the use of digital environments not only in these aspects but also to assist them in their academic knowledge, such as in their mathematical skills, specifically related to geometric thinking. From this context, Active Methodologies point to various ways of rethinking traditional teaching, one of them being gamification, which can be understood as the use of game elements in non-game situations. Gamification has shown significant benefits for this audience, proving to be an effective tool to aid in the development and learning of these individuals. Therefore, this article in its complete form presents an excerpt from a doctoral thesis that seeks to understand the geometric thinking of nine autistic participants through gamified activities in their real mode. The research is divided into two stages: the first stage involves a preliminary survey with five teachers through structured interviews, aiming to investigate the demand for gamified activities for students with ASD, as well as indicating possibilities for such activities. From the Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) of these interviews, three categories emerged: opportunities, skills, and limitations. As for the second stage, conducted with nine participants, who are students with ASD, interventions were carried out with these activities in their real mode, which will be implemented digitally later. Through the researcher's observation analysis, based on recorded videos of the interventions, three subcategories related to the initial categories can be identified: potential interactions (opportunities);strategies for geometric thinking (skills);and gamification in the real mode (limitations). Elasticity is one of the most known capabilities related to cloud computing, being largely deployed using thresholds. In this way, limits are used to drive resource mangement actions, leading to the following problem statements: How can cloud users set the threshold values to enable elasticity in their cloud applications? And what is the impact of the application's load pattern in the elasticity? This article answers these questions for iterative high performance computing applications, showing the impact of both thresholds and load patterns on application performance and resource consumption. To accomplish this, we developed a reactive and PaaS-based elasticity model called AutoElastic and employed it over a private cloud to execute a numerical integration application. Here, we are presenting an analysis of best practices and possible optimizations regarding the elasticity and HPC pair. Considering the results, we observed that the upper threshold influences the application time more than the lower one. © 2015 IEEE.

Clocking represents the manner in which companies register employee data;particularly, data related to entrances to and departures from the company. Being normally implemented with wireless cards or by hand, this procedure can implies on large queues, reducing the emloyee productivity, besides being sensitive to longer complications (when the employee forget to register the clocking, for example). In this context, we developed a model named ACID (Automatic Clocking and Idleness Detection) to bring benefits for both administrators and employees through the use of wireless sensors. Besides eliminating queues, it is possible to analyze those employees that are away from their own places for more than a particular threshold. In addition, the model is also pertinent to enhance decision support when promotions take place. We developed a prototype that was evaluated through simulation, taking into account the architectural plant and the employees behavior of five real Brazilian companies. The results reveals the benefits of using IDAC both at the owner (control and productivity) and employees (the clocking actions occurs automatically) levels. © 2016 IEEE.

The use of recommender systems is widespread in several everyday systems. People are now exposed to different offerings, based on their interests, in order to anticipate decisions. However, in a different way recommender systems for accessibility domain require further studies and researches. In order to provide resources for people with special needs, we developed the Vulcanus, a recommender system designed for people with disabilities, offering access to resources according user's needs. The recommender system approaches concepts from ubiquitous computing, such as user profiles, context awareness, trails management, and similarity analysis. Vulcanus uses two different approaches: resources patterns and categories patterns;where different systems can use it, for example as a Web Service. Vulcanus was evaluated in different scenarios. These scenarios used more than 800 thousands of trails that simulate wheelchair users using resources along six months. The obtained results show that both approaches are able to provide relevant recommendations, providing resources that in fact can support users' needs. © 2015 IEEE.
