The by-product of oil palm dosage application on Turnera subulata growth supports water supply

Plant growth with complex organic matter content can be enhanced by using oil palm by-products. These organic materials can maintain the water supply in the plant body. Therefore, in oil palm plantations with significant groundwater consumption, organic matter’s the ability to sustain water availability. Caterpillars that devour palm leaves are among the numerous pests that threaten oil palm plantations. Predators of leaf-eating caterpillars use the holly rose flower (Turnera subulata) in oil palm farms as a habitat. Therefore, the effect of the type and dose treatment of oil palm by-products on the growth of Turnera subulata was observed to support sustainable water management in oil palm plantations. The research was carried out using a factorial design arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two components: the type of palm oil mill by-product (boiler ash, empty bunches, and solid) and the dose of a by-product (% volume) consisting of four dosages (0, 25, 33, and 50% volume). The research data were analyzed using variance at the 5% test level. A DMRT test at the 5% test level was conducted on the treatment that had a significant effect. The growth of Turnera subulata was most positively impacted by a solid application dose of 50% volume. Turnera subulata plants responded the least favorably to the application of empty bunches in any dose treatment.

Effects of concurrency on epidemic spreading in Markovian temporal networks

The concurrency of edges, quantified by the number of edges that share a common node at a given time point, may be an important determinant of epidemic processes in temporal networks. We propose theoretically tractable Markovian temporal network models in which each edge flips between the active and inactive states in continuous time. The different models have different amounts of concurrency while we can tune the models to share the same statistics of edge activation and deactivation (and hence the fraction of time for which each edge is active) and the structure of the aggregate (i.e., static) network. We analytically calculate the amount of concurrency of edges sharing a node for each model. We then numerically study effects of concurrency on epidemic spreading in the stochastic susceptible-infectious-susceptible and susceptible-infectious-recovered dynamics on the proposed temporal network models. We find that the concurrency enhances epidemic spreading near the epidemic threshold while this effect is small in many cases. Furthermore, when the infection rate is substantially larger than the epidemic threshold, the concurrency suppresses epidemic spreading in a majority of cases. In sum, our numerical simulations suggest that the impact of concurrency on enhancing epidemic spreading within our model is consistently present near the epidemic threshold but modest. The proposed temporal network models are expected to be useful for investigating effects of concurrency on various collective dynamics on networks including both infectious and other dynamics. With the increasing global demands of coffee, Indonesia need to increase their coffee beans supply and improve the quality to maintain its position in the international coffee industry. One of the most important coffeepre-processing, coffee bean roasting, is under developed in Indonesia. Indonesia coffee farmers prefer to use the traditional cauldron to roast their coffee beans. Roasting coffee beans using traditional cauldron is inefficient and resulting unequal roasted level for the coffee beans. In this study, we proposed atemperature control system based on fuzzy logic for coffee roaster machine. The system controls the temperature in accordance with the demanded roasting level. A thermal camera is attached inside the roasting chamber to monitor the heaton the roasted coffee beans. The thermal camera is integrated with a stirring mechanism to equalise the heat among the beans. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this era of digital world information, farmers face challenges about information management of huge data and the complexity of processes in precision farming. The data collection carried out so far can cause several difficulties, especially if the data is needed by the government or academics to support decision-making. Agricultural data collection applications only cover 12% of the market share of Android-based agriculture-based applications. In this study, Tani Milenial application is present as an alternative to support agricultural data collection activities in Indonesia. This application encourages farmers to be active and contribute independently to their role as subjects of agricultural development and is accustomed to digitally recording their agricultural activities. In this developed application system, the community, especially farmers and farmer groups, will find it easier to get information about agricultural potential data around where they carry out agricultural activities and can access this information online. Tani Milenial works as a guide to help farmers and transform agriculture but still have some gaps which should be checked and removed. The data collected can be used by various parties for research and decision-making. The app can be further improved to develop new features related to education, market information, and goods.

BACKGROUND:Taiwan has one of the highest incidences of upper tract urothelial cancer (UTUC) worldwide, especially in women; however, no nationwide, long-term follow-up study has evaluated this. METHODS:We investigated the incidence of UTUC in Taiwan using data from the national population-based Taiwan Cancer Registry database (1985-2019). We divided the birth cohort into nine 5-year age groups and calculated the age-specific incidence for these groups according to the corresponding birth years. RESULTS:The average annual percent change in the incidence of renal pelvis cancer from 1985 to 2019 showed sex-specific differences, with 3.5% and 5.3% increases in the incidences in men and women, respectively. The age-specific incidence rate for renal pelvis cancer among women showed a gradual increase in the group with older women as well as an increase over time in each age group. The results of a birth cohort analysis revealed that younger cohorts had higher incidence rates of renal pelvis cancer than older cohorts did. CONCLUSION:We demonstrated that the incidence of UTUC is unusually high among older Taiwanese women and that younger cohorts have a high risk of UTUC than older cohorts.

PURPOSE:Pediatric hydrocephalus is the most common cause of surgically treatable neurological disease in children. Controversies exist whether endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt placement is the most appropriate treatment for pediatric hydrocephalus. This study aimed to compare the risk of re-operation and death between the two procedures. METHODS:We performed a retrospective population-based cohort study and included patients younger than 20-years-old who underwent CSF shunt or ETV for hydrocephalus from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research database. RESULTS:A total of 3,555 pediatric patients from 2004 to 2017 were selected, including 2,340 (65.8%) patients that received CSF shunt placement and 1215 (34.2%) patients that underwent ETV. The incidence of all-cause death was 3.31 per 100 person-year for CSF shunt group and 2.52 per 100 person-year for ETV group, with an adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of 0.79 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.66-0.94, p = 0.009). The cumulative incidence competing risk for reoperation was 31.2% for the CSF shunt group and 26.4% for the ETV group, with an adjusted subdistribution HR of 0.82 (95% CI = 0.70-0.96, p = 0.015). Subgroup analysis showed that ETV was beneficial for hydrocephalus coexisting with brain or spinal tumor, central nervous system infection, and intracranial hemorrhage. CONCLUSION:Our data indicates ETV is a better operative procedure for pediatric hydrocephalus when advanced surgical techniques and instruments are available.

Copper (Cu) has been excessively used for some valuable commodities and this creates environmental problems. The inorganic element becomes toxic when presents beyond the recommended tolerated concentration. Bacterial-based remediation is seen to be an excellent tool to overcome it as it reduces the copper contamination without yielding any other forms of contamination. There are some pivotal properties in the bacteria render them being considered as bioremediation agents against coppers contamination, namely bioaccumulation and biosorption. In the present study, we question if these bacteria could be clustered into a strong and representative proximity according to their functional properties. Mostly, bacteria are grouped based on their genetic profiles derived from the 16S rRNA sequencing. We propose that our K-Means clustering model can be employed to identify genetically-unlabelled bacteria. But first, a prominent reference should be developed and we are in this phase. We figured out the K-Means clustering model do not pull the same-genus bacteria into the same cluster. Instead, the model gathers into a proximity those isolates with similarity on a functional characteristic termed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), regardless their origins and their hierarchy in taxonomy.

Learning activities are an indicator of the learner's desire to learn during the learning process. The pattern of learner action is related to learning activities. In this case, in extracting the learning process, it is necessary to collect a lot of data through analysis of the learning process. The purpose of this study is to recommend and report the performance of an activity tracking system equipped with visual artifacts as an educational data mining approach to analyze action patterns when learners complete the arrangement of program code lines in each programming problem. In this study, data were taken from activity recordings when learners used interactive learning media for a basic programming subject called TOLSYASUPI-EduMed which had problem-solving learning models embedded in their interactions. Learning Analytics is used as a method of this research and data relationships from learner actions during the learning process using the “if-then” rule. Log data is used for recording and detecting activities carried out by learners. We confirm that the results of the study are based on the findings of the data relationship that if the lines of program code are too long (more than five lines) then almost all learners experience a bottleneck condition. The completion time of each question and the number of iterations in completing the program code lines for each question have also been recorded and have a pattern of connection between the data. The information that has been obtained is then forwarded to teachers or stakeholders as key information to make appropriate feedback to learners based on the results as a means of analyzing and evaluating the programming learning process.

Segmentation of prostate cancer on ultrasound (US) images is challenging because of the low-intensity contrast around the region of interest (ROI) contour caused by the intestinal gas. To the best of our knowledge, our work is one of the extremely rare groups to segment prostate cancer on US images, which designs a coarse-to-refinement segmentation framework with four merits: 1) it fuses the advantages of the deep learning- and principal curve-based algorithms to locate the ROI and fit the data center automatically, respectively; 2) a principal curve-based polygon searching method is designed by newly adding some constraints so that the performance of our method could be enhanced; 3) the quantum characteristics are added into evolution network, while newly adding numerous- operator scheme and global optimum search schemes; 4) an interpretable mathematical mapping model is developed to denote the ROI contour. Segmentation results show that our network outperforms other medical image segmentation models.

The COVID-19 pandemic requires face-to-face learning to shift to online or distance learning. Therefore, the elementary school, which is the most basic level of education affected by this phenomenon, where this research is carried out. This study aimed to analyze the process of implementing online learning, the supporting and inhibiting factors for teachers, students, and parents in implementing online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, good practices for online learning were also analyzed in this study to understand these phenomena in elementary schools. The research method utilized descriptive qualitative research and was performed at a private primary school in Yogyakarta. The subjects consisted of teachers, students, and parents that were involved in the online learning process. Online questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. The results of this study show the enormous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the learning process. Learning that is usually carried out face-to-face (conventional) has now been converted into online learning in elementary school.
