Chitosan has been utilized as a popular biopolymer to fabricate hydrogels for biomedical applications. However, chitosan hydrogels are generally too brittle to mimic the deformability of the extracellular matrix in many tissues and organs. In particular, the role of the varied crosslinkers in determining the elasticity of chitosan hydrogels is lack of discussion. Here, three aldehyde-functionalized crosslinkers (i.e., aldehyde-modified poly(xylitol sebacate)-co-poly(ethylene glycol) (APP), glutaraldehyde (GA), and polydextran aldehyde (PDA)) are used to react with quaternized chitosan (QCS) through imine bonds to form hydrogels. The microstructures, mechanical performances, and cytocompatibility of the three hydrogels are systematically investigated. The APP/QCS hydrogels presented the best compressive and stretch properties among the three hydrogels. The mechanical property and antibacterial activity of APP/QCS hydrogels can be further modulated using varied QCS amounts, where more QCS contributed higher stiffness and stretchability as well as better bacterial inhibition to the APP/QCS hydrogels. Taken together, it is demonstrated that the inherent elastomeric characteristic of APP crosslinker provides the desirable elasticity and stretchability to QCS hydrogels compared to the other aldehyde-functionalized crosslinkers of GA and PDA. This strategy of using multivalent elastomeric crosslinkers to fabricate deformable chitosan hydrogels can expand the use of chitosan hydrogels in tissue engineering applications.

Effect of Ammonium Formate Addition on Corrosion Behavior of Trivalent Chromium Coatings Electrodeposited in Deep Eutectic Solvents

The Cr thin films were electrodeposited from trivalent chromium deep eutectic solvents. The conditions of deep eutectic solvents divided into without water (specimen C1), added 15 wt% water (specimen C2), added 15 wt% water with ammonium formate (specimen C3). The HR-TEM shows the structure of “C1” is amorphous structure, and both “C2” and “C3” belong to nano-crystalline structure. The best corrosion resistance of Cr thin film is “C3” which icorr value is approximately at 3.69×10^-7 A/cm², the worst corrosion resistance of Cr thin film is “C1” which icorr value is approximately at 3.05×10^-5 A/cm², it can be attributed to “C3” has a dense structure and “C1” has a loose structure. The EIS analysis also presents “C3” has the best corrosion resistance. The reason for the large difference in corrosion resistance can be attributed to the loose structure of the "C1" thin film and the gaps of film is perpendicular to substrate, the dense structure of the "C3" thin film can effectively protect the substrate. Moreover, the addition of ammonium formate into trivalent chromium deep eutectic solvents will promote the reduction reaction of Cr ions and form a dense film © 2022. The Authors. Background: LZ91 Magnesium alloy with a dual-phase structure has improved mechanical properties and a low density of about 1.48 g/cm3 but their limited resistance to corrosion limits their application. Therefore, it is a great challenge to increase the stability of LZ91 alloys under corrosive factors and environments. Methods: This study uses micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and an electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) plated composite film to increase the corrosion resistance of LZ91 magnesium alloy. Before electroless Ni-P plating, the MAO layers are activated by palladium catalysts at different pH values to produce composite coatings. SEM, EDS and Image J are used to determine the surface properties and elemental composition of the samples. The corrosion resistance is measured using a potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. Findings: The results show that the MAO coating is activated by an acid catalyst and the surface is obviously corroded. The electroless Ni-P plating grows into the MAO coating and the substrate corrodes. Therefore, corrosive medium (chloride ion) easily enter to the substrate and pitting corrosion occurred. On the contrary, activation by a neutral catalyst (pH=7) maintains the original structure of the MAO coating and provides a good bonding interface for the Ni-P coating. Form the potentiodynamic analysis can be finds that the corrosion potential for the neutral catalyst treated sample is -0.35V and the corrosion current density value is 1.77×10−6 A/cm2, so the corrosion characteristic become better than the acid catalyst treated samples. In terms of the long-term resistance after 48 h, EIS analysis shows that the resistance value remains at about 7.6×104 Ω•cm2. A composite coating that is compact and with excellent resistance to corrosion resistance is produced, which provides better protection for LZ91 magnesium alloys. © 2023 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers

This paper compares single microstrip antenna designs and microstrip arrays used for Manpack Radar with X-band frequency. Antenna array configurations were investigated for 1x2, 1x4, and 1x32 elements. A gain increase is required for each additional patch element. Patch dimensions are set at 9.17 x 10.10 x 0.035 mm. The parameters needed are X-Band frequency with gain >15 dBi, beamwidth angle of ≤5°, and bandwidth of more than 60 MHz. The simulation results show a good match with the target required for the 9.3 GHz frequency. The largest gain value numerically is obtained on the antenna with 32 patches, which is 17.1 dBi.

The arrival of Building Information Modelling (BIM) platforms to the Architecture, engineering and Construction (AEC) markets and companies has led to a significant increase in efficiency in this economy sector. However, many AEC companies try to implement BIM as a normal or incremental change or improvement in technology rather than as a technological paradigm shift that radically affects most organizational processes, which may hinder a successful adoption of BIM with a deployment of its full potential. This paper aims to present a basic BIM framework amenable to ensure a successful BIM adoption in public organizations, particularly adapted to the Brazilian federal government. Based on a literature review, we propose to split the factors into three main groups: project development procedures, model development procedures and public governance policies. Some processes were studied in order to infer which of them is necessary for a successful BIM adoption. A BIM implementation is expected to be a success only if all main groups of factors are well defined and the established goals for each of them are reached. We also describe results of two concept proofs related to actual cases of BIM processes implementation, with extensive changes in product and governance management processes. Main results show that any BIM adoption should consider the close relation among model management, product management and governance management groups. WCO is a second-generation biofuel made up of accumulated free fatty acids, which can be used as feedstock for biodiesel production. The review aims to: (a) evaluate the sustainability of waste cooking oil (WCO) for biodiesel production in Indonesia using life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) methods;(b) explain the challenges, development, recommendation, and industrial potential of WCO for biodiesel production in Indonesia;and (c) determine the sustainability concept of WCO for biodiesel production. This study was carried out by reviewing papers related to LCSA which include Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), and Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA). The review found that the WCO collection, pretreatment, and transesterification processes have the biggest environmental impact caused by the use of chemicals, catalysts, and electrical energy from fossil fuels. According to the LCCA results, WCO-based biodiesel production has a high economic potential and is more practicable due to lower raw material and production costs than biodiesel from edible and non-edible plants. Meanwhile, the SLCA aspect emphasizes that the WCO-based biodiesel industry must consider social indicators such as employment provision, human rights, human health impact, working conditions, local community impact, cultural heritage, socio-economic repercussions, governance, and large accident risk. There are several recommendations that can be made to develop WCO-based biodiesel, namely the government must demonstrate political commitment by promoting WCO as a national energy source feedstock. The sustainable concept has three pillars: environmental, economic, and social. These pillars must simultaneously direct every stage of the WCO production process. To produce high-quality biodiesel, the government must support all of these stages, establish regulations and governance for WCO supply and the WCO processing industry, and provide implementable R&D, adequate funding

In the field of cyber range simulations and network security research, the ongoing challenge of limited and diverse real-world malware data has been addressed, and our innovative approach, which combines model-driven generation and trace-based duplication, offers a promising solution. The proposed method aims to address the scarcity of diverse and significant malware packet capture (PCAP) datasets, facilitate more realistic training, support in-depth research, and enhance the assessment of malware detection and mitigation strategies. This research introduces a framework for creating authentic malware network behavior to address the difficulties associated with malware-induced network activity. The empirical findings confirm the effectiveness of the model in producing a variety of synthetic traffic, faithfully replicating the patterns of the original traffic with a high degree of precision and achieving 99.6% accuracy. Overall, this research contributes to advances in cybersecurity training and preparedness by presenting a practical approach for generating simulated offline malware traffic for forensic analysis and research purposes. © 2024, The Authors. Background: To evaluate the effect of the weighting of input imaging combo and ADC threshold on the performance of the U-Net and to find an optimized input imaging combo and ADC threshold in segmenting acute ischemic stroke (AIS) lesion. Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled a total of 212 patients having AIS. Four combos, including ADC-ADC-ADC (AAA), DWI-ADC-ADC (DAA), DWI-DWI-ADC (DDA), and DWI-DWI-DWI (DDD), were used as input images, respectively. Three ADC thresholds including 0.6, 0.8 and 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s were applied. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) was used to evaluate the segmentation performance of U-Nets. Nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test with Tukey–Kramer post-hoc tests were used for comparison. A p <.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The DSC significantly varied among different combos of images and different ADC thresholds. Hybrid U-Nets outperformed uniform U-Nets at ADC thresholds of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s and 0.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p <.001). The U-Net with imaging combo of DDD had segmentation performance similar to hybrid U-Nets at an ADC threshold of 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p =.062 to 1). The U-Net using the imaging combo of DAA at the ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s achieved the highest DSC in the segmentation of AIS lesion. Conclusions: The segmentation performance of U-Net for AIS varies among the input imaging combos and ADC thresholds. The U-Net is optimized by choosing the imaging combo of DAA at an ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s in segmentating AIS lesion with highest DSC.
