In recent years, the field of medicine has been increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to provide faster and more accurate disease detection, prediction, and assessment. In this study, we propose an interpretable AI approach to diagnose patients with neurofibromatosis using blood tests and pathogenic variables. We evaluated the proposed method using a dataset from the AACR GENIE project and compared its performance with modern approaches. Our proposed approach outperformed existing models with 99.86% accuracy. We also conducted NF1 and interpretable AI tests to validate our approach. Our work provides an explainable approach model using logistic regression and explanatory stimulus as well as a black-box model. The explainable models help to explain the predictions of black-box models while the glass-box models provide information about the best-fit features. Overall, our study presents an interpretable AI approach for diagnosing patients with neurofibromatosis and demonstrates the potential of AI in the medical field. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper proposes a pose estimation system for robot grasping based on a novel Object Affordance Detection and Segmentation (OADS) network. The proposed system consists of four modules: (1) OADS network; (2) point cloud extraction; (3) object pose estimation; (4) grasp pose estimation. Based on the OADS network, the proposed system achieves affordance-based object pose estimation results. The proposed grasp pose estimation system is evaluated on a laboratory-made dual-arm robot. Experimental results show that the proposed system achieves high detection rate and high accuracy in affordance detection and segmentation tasks, leading to a high success rate in object grasping tasks with lab-made dual-arm robot.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV), as a promising paradigm, speeds up the service deployment by separating network functions from proprietary devices and deploying them on common servers in the form of software. Any service in NFV-enabled networks is achieved as a Service Function Chain (SFC) which consists of a series of ordered Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). However, migration of VNFs for more flexible services within a dynamic NFV-enabled network is a key challenge to be addressed. Current VNF migration studies mainly focus on single VNF migration decisions without considering the sharing and concurrent migration of VNF instances. In this paper, we assume that each deployed VNF is used by multiple SFCs and deal with the optimal placement for the contemporaneous migration of VNFs based on the actual network situation. We formalize the VNF migration and SFC reconfiguration problem as a mathematical model, which aims to minimize the VNF migration between nodes or the total number of core changes per node. The approach is a two-stage MILP based on optimal order to solve the reconfiguration. Extensive evaluation shows that the proposed approach can reduce the change in terms of location or number of cores per node in a 6-node and 14-node networks while ensuring network latency compared with the model without reconfiguration. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Due to the increasingly irregular lifestyles, the health status of youth is gradually deteriorating. It is important to understand the risk factors that contribute to this deterioration. In this study, we focus on analyzing lifestyles and behaviors with causal discovery to clarify the relationships between them and youth health. We analyze objective wearable device data and subjective self-assessment health data using NOTEARS, a causal discovery algorithm, and construct causal graphs. Experiment results show that there are causal relationships between exercise factors and stress degree, and between sleep quality and self-assessment score. Unhealthy habits like alcohol consumption and staying up late negatively affect youth health. Notably, females and individuals of higher BMI are more prone to low mood and stress.

The use of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems as a renewable source is gaining popularity as a means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting energy demand. However, losses associated with solar PV systems remain a challenge. In this study relationship between the average power output of a solar PV system in clean and cotton dust configurations using linear regression analysis is investigated. The data is being collected over a period of 12 days, with daily measurements of 8 hours of the average power output in both configurations. Based on the t-test, it is found that the average power output in the cotton dust configuration was significantly lower than that in the clean configuration. Linear regression analysis verified that the power output of the system decreased over time in both configurations. The coefficient of determination for the clean model is 0.1905 and the R-squared value for the cotton dust model is 0.8436. These outcomes highlight the importance of considering the effects of cotton dust growth on the performance of solar PV systems and the potential for improved maintenance strategies to overcome the related losses.

Transparent conductive oxides exhibit attractive optical nonlinearity with ultrafast response and giant refractive index change near the epsilon-near-zero(ENZ) wavelength, originating from the intraband dynamics of conduction electrons. The optical nonlinearity of ENZ materials has been explained by using the overall-effective-mass and the overall-scattering-time of electrons in the extended Drude model. However, their response to optical excitation is yet the last building block to complete the theory. In this paper, the concept of thermal energy is theoretically proposed to account for the total energy of conduction electrons exceeding their thermal equilibrium value. The time-varying thermal energy is adopted to describe the transient optical response of indium-tin-oxide(ITO), a typical ENZ material. A spectrally-resolved femtosecond pump-probe experiment was conducted to verify our theory. By correlating the thermal energy with the pumping density, both the giant change and the transient response of the permittivity of ITO can be predicted. The results in this work provide a new methodology to describe the transient permittivities of ENZ materials, which will benefit the design of ENZ-based nonlinear photonic devices.

The article introduces a two-dimensional polynomial regression model for the predictive analysis of glucose concentration in a fractal microwave sensor NP model, utilizing frequency and transmission coefficient differences to examine their correlation with glucose concentration levels. The sensor employed in this investigation is fabricated on an economical FR-4 substrate to minimize costs. The sensor structure is developed with the fractal structure reduction method established by the NP model to operate at a frequency of roughly 2.97 GHz. The CST Studio software is utilized to analyze the findings from the simulation of the suggested sensor structure. Furthermore, the proposed sensor is integrated into a test apparatus comprising a sensor platform and a liquid tube constructed from PPA material. The liquid under examination is a glucose and water mixture at varying concentrations. It was analyzed using a VNA instrument to evaluate its frequency response and the magnitude of the alteration in the transmission coefficient. The values are utilized to create a two-dimensional polynomial regression model. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed sensor model possesses an Adjusted R² value of 0.99499 and an average error of approximately 3.57% for glucose concentration analysis throughout the range of 5% to 30%, with sensitivities of 0.00879 dB/% for insertion loss and 0.092 MHz/% for frequency variation, facilitating accurate glucose concentration prediction analysis.

Sign language has importance rule to deal with communication process especially with impairments hearing people. Sign language detection also attract lot of researchers to join the challenge of research to detect and recognize the sign language in the field of computer Science. Hence, there is still no any standard approach and method to recognize the meaning in every pose of sign language. This research proposed a mechanism to detect Alphabet American Sign Language by utilizing Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) process. The CNN approach was chosen based on the ability and capability to recognize image. In this research, MNIST dataset is used for traning and testing process. The proposed CNN architecture produced 97% of accuracy that outperform the previous research using the same dataset which made this architecture promising.

Demonstration of a Polarization-Agnostic Geometric Phase in Nonlocal Metasurfaces

Symmetry-driven phenomena arising in nonlocal metasurfaces supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum (q-BICs) have been opening new avenues to tailor enhanced light-matter interactions via perturbative design principles. Geometric phase concepts—observed in many physical systems—are particularly useful in nonlocal metasurfaces, as they enable to locally pattern the q-BIC scattering rate and phase across the metasurface aperture without affecting the delocalized nature of the q-BIC resonance. However, this control typically comes with stringent limitations in terms of efficiency and/or of polarization operation. Here, we unveil a new form of geometric phase control, accumulated along a continuous contour of geometric perturbations that parametrically encircle a singularity associated with a bound state. This response is obtained regardless of the chosen polarization state, which can be rationally specified by a judicious choice of the perturbation geometry. Our findings extend geometric phase concepts to arbitrary polarizations, including linear and elliptical states, with near-unity scattering efficiency. This polarization-agnostic geometric phase offers new opportunities for wavefront manipulation, multifunctional operation and light emission, with applications in augmented reality, secure communications, wireless systems, imaging, lasing, nonlinear and quantum optics. © 2023, CC BY.

Connectivity of LEO Satellite Mega Constellations: An Application of Percolation Theory on a Sphere

With the advent of the 6G era, global connectivity has become a common goal in the evolution of communications, aiming to bring Internet services to more unconnected regions. Additionally, the rise of applications such as the Internet of Everything and remote education also requires global connectivity. Non-terrestrial networks (NTN), particularly low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, play a crucial role in this future vision. Although some literature already analyze the coverage performance using stochastic geometry, the ability of generating large-scale continuous service area is still expected to analyze. Therefore, in this paper, we mainly investigate the necessary conditions of LEO satellite deployment for large-scale continuous service coverage on the earth. Firstly, we apply percolation theory to a closed spherical surface and define the percolation on a sphere for the first time. We introduce the sub-critical and super-critical cases to prove the existence of the phase transition of percolation probability. Then, through stereographic projection, we introduce the tight bounds and closed-form expression of the critical number of LEO satellites on the same constellation. In addition, we also investigate how the altitude and maximum slant range of LEO satellites affect percolation probability, and derive the critical values of them. Based on our findings, we provide useful recommendations for companies planning to deploy LEO satellite networks to enhance connectivity. © 1965-2011 IEEE.
