Coronary artery disease is a leading cause of death, with 17.8 million deaths globally. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging is used to characterize coronary lesions and guide intervention in the cardiac catheterization lab. Separately, catheter-directed thrombolysis provides therapeutic ultrasound in an intravascular form factor to treat clots. In this paper, we propose to develop a flexible, multifunctional, FPGA-based pulser/receiver system for combined IVUS imaging and therapy. The novel system consists of a computer with a Matlab-based graphical user interface, an FPGA board and a custom proprietary board. An example therapy excitation is shown for a 1000-cycle, 550 kHz output waveform with an amplitude of 102 Vpp. This excitation was applied to a custom 3 mm therapy transducer, resulting in hydrophone-measured peak negative acoustic pressure of 305.28 kPa, a mechanical index of 0.41, I spta.3 of 5.64 mW/cm 2 and I sppa.3 of 310.36 mW/cm 2 . For imaging, the system can produce waveforms such as a 160 Vpp 1-cycle, 16.67 MHz sinusoidal pulse with a -6 dB bandwidth of 21 MHz. Thus, the developed system can be used to drive simultaneous IVUS imaging to assess the coronary environment and provide image-guided therapy of clots or plaques.

The problems of high voltage equipment usually come from the imperfection of solid insulation, which may be caused by poor workmanship during cable installation, leading to multi-void inside solid insulation and subsequently partial discharge when that cable is put in service. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the discharge phenomena of multi-void inside solid insulation by creating artificial defects in epoxy resin and testing under AC and very low frequency voltage sources. The test object consists of a single void with different void diameters and multi-void created by injecting the air voids at atmospheric pressure into epoxy resin. The partial discharge inside a single void and multi-void is detected by using a conventional and unconventional sensor. The results of PD measurement are represented in the phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) and several partial discharge parameters, such as PD charge magnitude and PD repetition rate. In addition, the results are analyzed to observe the impact of the multi-void with different conditions such as variable void diameter, the thickness of epoxy resin, type of voltage source, and PD sensor. The test can specify trends toward breakdown and the severity of multi-void inside solid insulation. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper details a process used to create an interconnect in a conducting systems, such as amorphous or polycrystalline semiconductors. An experimental verification on the plasticity that supports the percolation conduction mechanism is provided. The plasticity observed in the sample could be harnessed in the development of new electronic devices that require flexibility and adaptability, such as wearable electronics and bendable screens. Overall, TEM characterization, in combination with SAED analysis, revealed a highly oriented crystalline structure in the sample. In addition, the results of this study have implications for the design of new memory devices that are based on a percolation conduction mechanism, which could potentially lead to the development of more efficient and reliable non-volatile storage technologies.

Lilies are popular in the global flower market, but consumers often lack information about specific varieties. To address this issue, this paper proposes a computer recognition platform based on the Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture. The proposed platform uses an improved vision transformer (ViT) architecture to classify different types of lilies, allowing consumers to access information and names of various Lilium species. The experimental results show that the proposed lily classification model achieved a 96.4% accuracy rate in classifying six lily species. © 2025 IEEE.

This work describes the investigation of planar waveguide crossings using metaheuristic methods associated with the two-dimensional finite element method (2D-FEM). An optimization and measurement process are performed on the power transmission and crosstalk of the waveguide crossings and then the values calculated are compared with other studies in the literature. The best performing adjusted crossing is optimally designed by applying the following metaheuristics: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), and a hybrid algorithm combining the Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure and Simulated Annealing (GRASP-SA). Transmission efficiency results higher than 97% and crosstalk below the -50 dB over a wide wavelength range, with a footprint of $\mathbf{4.9}\times \mathbf{4.9}\ \boldsymbol{\mu} \mathbf{m}^{\mathbf{2}}$ .

This paper presents the Partial Discharge (PD) investigation of defective medium voltage (3.6/6(7.2) kV) cable terminations and the impact of using different voltage sources namely AC 50 Hz and Very Low Frequency (VLF) voltage source of 0.1 Hz as supply voltage. The PD is detected by High Frequency Current Transformer (HFCT). Electric field stress investigation is carried out by using Finite Element Method Magnetic (FEMM) simulation tool. The defective cable terminations used are no-stress control, needle tip on insulation screen and sandpaper scrubbed termination. PD investigation is carried out by applying 50 Hz and 0.1 Hz voltage sources and Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (PDIV), Partial Discharge Extinction Voltage (PDEV), PD magnitude and Pulse Repetition Rate are recorded. The comparison of PDIV values demonstrates the impact of different voltage sources. © 2022 IEEE.

Wireless transmission is vulnerable to malicious jamming attacks due to the openness of wireless channels, posing a severe threat to wireless communications. Current anti-jamming studies primarily focus on either enhancing desired signals or mitigating jamming, resulting in limited performance. To address this issue, intelligent omni-surface (IOS) is a promising solution. By jointly designing its reflective and refractive properties, the IOS can simultaneously nullify jamming and enhance desired signals. In this paper, we consider an IOS-aided multi-user anti-jamming communication system, aiming to improve desired signals and nullify jamming by optimizing IOS phase shifts and transmit beamforming. However, this is challenging due to the coupled and discrete IOS reflection and refraction phase shifts, the unknown jammer’s beamformer, and imperfect jammer-related channel state information. To tackle this, we relax IOS phase shifts to continuous states and optimize with a coupling-aware algorithm using the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and S-procedure, followed by a local search to recover discrete states. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly improves the sum rate amid jamming attacks. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Utilization of Fuzzy Logic and Bollinger Bands to Enhance Trading Decision-Making During the Bitcoin Halving Phase

The volatile behavior of Bitcoin's price, especially during its halving periods, poses considerable obstacles for forecasting and decision-making in cryptocurrency trading. This paper presents a novel method that combines application fuzzy logic with Bollinger Bands to improve trading decision-making in times of high market volatility. This study conducted an experiment utilizing three fuzzy logic controllers and Bollinger Bands (BB) to determine the strength of buy, hold, and sell signals. This dataset includes the initial and final prices that are used to calculate the BB. The raw and computed values serve as the precise input parameters for the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). The membership functions were categorized into four levels: very low, low, high, and very high, based on the input default settings utilized by traders. Rulesets were created using fuzzy logic to produce signals that indicate the level of strength of a trading advice. This study evaluate the effectiveness of this hybrid method in comparison to the traditional utilization of the Bollinger Band only indicator and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator, which is widely favored by traders to identify possible market fluctuations. This methodology involves creating a trading simulation that is based on past Bitcoin halving events. The objective is to assess the efficacy of these strategies in managing heightened volatility. The application of fuzzy logic with the Bollinger Bands model yielded a success rate of 92.47% while analyzing 93 daily data points from the previous Bitcoin halving event on May 11, 2020.

Informative and Long-Term Response Generation using Multiple Suggestions and User Persona Retrieval in a Dialogue System

Enhancing user satisfaction in dialogue systems relies on their ability to understand users and generate responses that meet their expectations. This study proposes a dialogue system that incorporates the Multi-Suggestions Transformer (MST) to generate informative and long-term responses. The MST combines empathy suggestions, system persona suggestions, and knowledge suggestions to produce comprehensive and informative responses. Additionally, the system employs a persona detection model and a persona extraction model to extract the user persona from current sentences and retrieve the most suitable user persona from the dialogue history. This facilitates long-term conversations by enabling the system to remember and respond to sentences relevant to the user persona. The proposed MST-based dialogue system outperforms the baseline in terms of informativeness, as evidenced by higher scores in BLEU, BERT-score, Distinct-n, and Perplexity on the Blended Skill Talk and Multi Session Chat datasets. Furthermore, two novel evaluation metrics, PerP and PerB, introduced in this study demonstrate the system’s effective utilization of the user persona for achieving long-term dialogue. Human subjective evaluation indicates that our model consistently outperforms the baseline, achieving superior scores of 68%, 56%, 52%, and 64% in the four subjective metrics. © 2024 J.-H. Hsu, T.-Y.
