Light detection and ranging(LiDAR),as a hot imaging technology in both industry and academia,has undergone rapid innovation and *** current mainstream direction is towards system miniaturization and *** are many metrics that can be used to evaluate the performance of a LiDAR system,such as lateral resolution,ranging accuracy,stability,size,and *** recently,with the continuous enrichment of LiDAR application scenarios,the pursuit of imaging speed has attracted tremendous research ***,for autonomous vehicles running on motorways or industrial automation applications,the imaging speed of LiDAR systems is a critical *** this review,we will focus on discussing the upper speed limit of the LiDAR *** on the working mechanism,the limitation of optical parts on the maximum imaging speed is *** beam scanner has the greatest impact on imaging *** provide the working principle of current popular beam scanners used in LiDAR systems and summarize the main constraints on the scanning ***,we highlight the spectral scanning LiDAR as a new paradigm of ultrafast ***,to further improve the imaging speed,we then review the parallel detection methods,which include multiple-detector schemes and multiplexing ***,we summarize the LiDAR systems with the fastest point acquisition rate reported *** the outlook,we address the current technical challenges for ultrafast LiDAR systems from different aspects and give a brief analysis of the feasibility of different approaches.

This paper presents a reduced and efficient alternate model to simulate the nonlinear dynamics of a thermally driven V-shaped MEMS actuator. The experimental observation of the dynamic voltage-displacement relationship shows an overdamped response with a variable rise-time and fall-time indicating the simultaneous presence of complex energy storage and energy dissipation mechanisms. To completely characterize these mechanisms and yet have a simple representation for control, we develop an alternate model consisting of a set of ordinary nonlinear differential equations representing the behavior of a nonlinear RC circuit with variable parameters that are a function of the applied voltage. The simulation results show good agreement with the measured data and confirm the accuracy of the proposed alternate model.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) is a transformative technology using the passive beamforming capabilities to create the programmable wireless environments. However, the control overhead is a challenging issue. The system needs to deliver the high-precision reflection coefficients to the RIS controller, for adjusting the phase shifts of the numerous RIS elements. Therefore, we propose a Spirograph-based discrete beamdirection strategy, which selects a set of non-uniformly distributed beam directions based on the generic patterns generated by the Spirograph (SG). We evaluate the achievable data rate and the number of controlling bits of SG-based method. We compare the SG-based method, the ideal continuous phase-shift method, and the SISO method. Simulation results show that with the properly-selected discrete beam directions, the SG-based method can achieve a comparable data rate as the ideal method, while having a lower control overhead.

With the increase in demand for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, the number of IoT devices has drastically grown, making spectrum resources seriously insufficient. Transmission collisions and retransmissions increase power consumption. Therefore, even in long-range (LoRa) networks, selecting appropriate transmission parameters, such as channel and transmission power, is essential to improve energy efficiency. However, due to the limited computational ability and memory, traditional transmission parameter selection methods for LoRa networks are challenging to implement on LoRa devices. To solve this problem, a distributed reinforcement learning-based channel and transmission power selection method is proposed, which can be implemented on the LoRa devices to improve energy efficiency in this paper. Specifically, the channel and transmission power selection problem in LoRa networks is first mapped to the multi-armed-bandit (MAB) problem. Then, an MAB-based method is introduced to solve the formulated transmission parameter selection problem based on the acknowledgment (ACK) packet and the power consumption for data transmission of the LoRa device. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by the constructed actual LoRa network. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than fixed assignment, adaptive data rate low-complexity (ADR-Lite), and e-greedy-based methods in terms of both transmission success rate and energy efficiency. © 2025 IEEE.

While learning to align Large Language Models (LLMs) with human preferences has shown remarkable success, aligning these models to meet the diverse user preferences presents further challenges in preserving previous knowledge. This paper examines the impact of personalized preference optimization on LLMs, revealing that the extent of knowledge loss varies significantly with preference heterogeneity. Although previous approaches have utilized the KL constraint between the reference model and the policy model, we observe that they fail to maintain global knowledge and general alignment when facing personalized preferences. To this end, we introduce Base-Anchored Preference Optimization (BAPO), a simple yet effective approach that utilizes the initial responses of reference model to mitigate forgetting while accommodating personalized alignment. BAPO effectively adapts to diverse user preferences while minimally affecting global knowledge or general alignment. © 2024, CC BY.

Conventional boost converters operating with hard-switching result in low conversion efficiency and increased electromagnetic interference emissions. In this paper, a cost-efficient passive snubber is proposed with a few additional components: two diodes, one capacitor, and one inductor. Moreover, because these snubber components are not located on the main power processing path, they only require low ratings, resulting in improved cost-effectiveness.

The increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in recent decades has underscored the need for more accurate and objective diagnostic methods. Electroencephalography (EEG) holds promise as a tool in ASD neurobiological research due to its ability to capture neural oscillatory activity with high temporal resolution. This study aims to analyze the neurophysiological differences between individuals with ASD and neurotypical populations by examining EEG data using Hjorth parameters. The preprocessing stage involved using a Butterworth filter to enhance EEG signal quality by eliminating noise in the frequency range of 4-40 Hz. The Hjorth parameters, including Activity, Mobility, and Complexity, were used to assess the statistical characteristics of the EEG signals. The analysis was conducted on EEG data collected from 5 typical individuals and 5 ASD ASD subjects. Our findings reveal that the Hjorth Activity parameter is notably lower in the ASD group across all regions, with the most significant differences observed in the left and right frontal areas, where average activity measures 0.236 μV 2 and 0.060 μV 2 in ASD individuals, compared to 0.512 μV 2 and 0.138 μV 2 in the neurotypical group. However, the Hjorth Complexity and Mobility values remained consistent between the two groups, implying that the fundamental structure of the EEG signals is relatively preserved. These findings offer insights into the neurobiological mechanisms of ASD and suggest the potential use of Hjorth parameters in developing more targeted interventions for individuals with ASD.

Synthetic dyes have changed perceptions of natural dyes, but their chemical origins pose environmental risks. Seeking an eco-friendly alternative, the indigenous fruit duhat from the Philippines shows promise as a potential dye for cotton fabrics. This study aimed to explore duhat's dyeing capability using a cost-effective and non-invasive testing technique. The evaluation began by creating a duhat filtrate and dyeing white cotton fabrics following standard procedures from the AATCC 61 1A handbook for color fastness testing through washing. The results and statistical analysis showed that when 150g of duhat skin was mixed with 50 mL of ethyl alcohol, it produced a filtrate with commendable color retention. An image enhancement technique converted RGB images to grayscale, aiding visual grading of color changes in cotton fabrics. The duhat skin dye scored a grade of 4 for noticeable color change and a grade of 3 for moderate staining on adjacent undyed fabric, according to the results from the gray scale for color change and staining. Furthermore, a paired t-test on the numerical data indicated no significant color change after the color fastness test compared to the fabric's original color. In conclusion, the experimentation suggests that duhat could serve as a potential natural dye source for cotton fabrics. Embracing duhat's coloring properties may reduce our reliance on synthetic dyes and help protect the environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Data Alignment Design for Robotic programming by Demonstration Based on IMU and Optical Tracker

This study proposes a data alignment design for sensor fusion of an optical target (OT) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to track the trajectory of a handheld tool for robot programming by demonstration (PbD). A novel method is proposed for coordinate and temporal alignment between the OT and the IMU sensor to increase tracking accuracy. The IMU measurements are aligned with the corresponding angular velocities and accelerations derived from the OT to calibrate the IMU-OT relationship. Global and local optimizations are combined to reduce the computation time for the temporal alignment and coordinate calibration. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides improved calibration results with shorter calculation time compared with the two existing methods. The sensor fusion experiments verify the accuracy of trajectory tracking of 1.3 mm using the calibration result, an improvement from 1.4 mm of the data alignment using ruler measurement. Integrated PbD experiments using a 6-DOF manipulator were carried out to evaluate the proposed method. The manipulator imitated the hand motion of a bottle transfer task with a trajectory error of 0.66 mm. Practical robotic experiments demonstrate that the method is suitable for robot programming applications. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
