Foot ulcers are one of the chronic wounds commonly occurring in diabetic patients and are associated with a high risk of major or minor amputations. Evaluation and measurement of such wounds are done manually by experts to assess the wound healing and suggest further treatment. Manual assessment methods can cause infections at times and are less feasible in the existence of pandemic situations. The development of artificial intelligence has brought a revolution in many domains of medical imaging. Deep learning-based computer-aided approaches can be applied to assist clinicians in assessing and monitoring chronic wounds. Wound segmentation helps to measure wound area which is useful for assessing its healing progress. In this research work, a deep learning-based segmentation method, namely Dual-UNet is presented for precisely segmenting the diabetic foot ulcers images. The foot ulcer images are passed to Dual-UNet to generate the mask image having the segmented wound area. We proposed two modified UNets each having a customized encoder and decoder with skip connections, atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) block, and output block to improve the segmentation results. We assessed our framework by performing experimentation on two benchmark datasets, named the foot ulcer segmentation (FUSeg) challenge and the AZH segmentation dataset. Additionally, we have also assessed our Dual-UNet for cross-corpora validation to demonstrate the generalization capability of the proposed approach. The qualitative and quantitative results highlight the accuracy and effectiveness of the Dual-UN et framework for segmenting chronic diabetic wounds. Future research should focus on the development of large and diverse wound datasets and improving the results for cross-corpora evaluation.

Although supervised image denoising networks have shown remarkable performance on synthesized noisy images, they often fail in practice due to the difference between real and synthesized noise. Since clean-noisy image pairs from the real world are extremely costly to gather, self-supervised learning, which utilizes noisy input itself as a target, has been studied. To prevent a self-supervised denoising model from learning identical mapping, each output pixel should not be influenced by its corresponding input pixel; This requirement is known as J-invariance. Blind-spot networks (BSNs) have been a prevalent choice to ensure J-invariance in self-supervised image denoising. However, constructing variations of BSNs by injecting additional operations such as downsampling can expose blinded information, thereby violating J-invariance. Consequently, convolutions designed specifically for BSNs have been allowed only, limiting architectural flexibility. To overcome this limitation, we propose PUCA, a novel J-invariant U-Net architecture, for self-supervised denoising. PUCA leverages patch-unshuffle/shuffle to dramatically expand receptive fields while maintaining J-invariance and dilated attention blocks (DABs) for global context incorporation. Experimental results demonstrate that PUCA achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming existing methods in self-supervised image denoising.

Objective: Glucose homeostasis is the only way to manage diabetic progression as all medications used do not cure diabetes. This study was aimed at verifying the feasibility of lowering glucose with non-invasive ultrasonic stimulation. Methods: The ultrasonic device was homemade and controlled via a mobile application on the smartphone. Diabetes was induced in Sprague–Dawley rats through high-fat diets followed by streptozotocin injection. The treated acupoint CV12 was at the middle of the xiphoid and umbilicus of the diabetic rats. Parameters of ultrasonic stimulation were an operating frequency of 1 MHz, pulse repetition frequency of 15 Hz, duty cycle of 10% and sonication time of 30 min for a single treatment. The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. A composite strain-modulation strategy to achieve high-performing green µ-LED devices for visible light communication is proposed. Compared with the conventional pre-well structure, introducing a pre-layer to enlarge the lateral lattice constant of the underlayer decreased the strain in the overall strain-modulated layer and MQW. This improved the crystal quality and suppressed the quantum confinement Stark effect. Using this modulation strategy, the green µ-LED array with the compound pre-strained structure exhibited a light output power of 20.5 mW and modulation bandwidth of 366 MHz, corresponding to improvements of 61% and 78%, respectively, compared with those of µ-LEDs with a pre-well structure. © 2024 Optica Publishing Group © 2024 Optica Publishing Group (formerly OSA). Adenosine triphosphate plays a vital role in providing energy and enabling key cellular processes through interactions with binding proteins. The increasing amount of protein sequence data necessitates computational methods for identifying binding sites. However, experimental identification of adenosine triphosphate-binding residues remains challenging. To address the challenge, we developed a multi-window convolutional neural network architecture taking pre-trained protein language model embeddings as input features. In particular, multiple parallel convolutional layers scan for motifs localized to different window sizes. Max pooling extracts salient features concatenated across windows into a final multi-scale representation for residue-level classification. On benchmark datasets, our model achieves an area under the ROC curve of 0.95, significantly improving on prior sequence-based models and outperforming convolutional neural network baselines. This demonstrates the utility of pre-trained language models and multi-window convolutional neural networks for advanced sequence-based prediction of adenosine triphosphate-binding residues. Our approach provides a promising new direction for elucidating binding mechanisms and interactions from primary structure. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

AC-DC converters almost always require common-mode (CM) filters to restrict conducting their electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions to the power grid and ensure compliance with EMI certification requirements. These CM filters, which are based on the well-known LC lowpass filter, are typically bulky and expensive. Hence, a method for passive $\mathbf{C M}$ current cancellation using a nonlinear model is proposed herein. This method is entirely composed of passive components and offers advantages in terms of cost and system reliability. Compared to conventional passive LC filters, the number of magnetic components remains unchanged. This study proposes the derivation of a nonlinear model to estimate the filter performance using measured data from an actual CM choke; however, the proposed method does not require the mathematical model of a CM choke.

Path planning is a crucial part of autonomous navigation when regarding autonomous aerial vehicles, often demanding different priorities such as the length, safety or energy consumption. Dynamic programming and geometric methods have been applied to solve this problem, but in recent years, more work has been developed using artificial intelligence approaches, such as reinforcement learning. In this paper we propose an offline path planning method for static environments using Q-learning. An optimal policy is found weighting three important factors: path length, safety and energy consumption. Due to a well balanced exploring/exploiting ratio, the proposed method can lead the agent to the desired destination starting from anywhere in the map. Simulations are done in different scenarios to address the performance of the proposed method and it showcased that the algorithm is able to find feasible paths in each scenario while regarding different set of priorities.

Data communications within the smart power grid components are susceptible to cyberattacks due to the inter-connected nature of the grid and reliance on communication networks. Such cyberattacks can exploit the integrity of the exchanged data and result in operational instability. Existing data-driven cyberattack detection systems (CDSs) are proposed in the literature but their effectiveness is only verified against one type of cyberattacks. In reality, a smart grid system could encounter more than one attack type at once. Thus, in this paper, we investigate the resilience of state-of-the-art data-driven CDSs against replay false data injection, adversarial evasion, and adversarial data poisoning attacks on a realistic IEEE 118-bus system model. It turns out that a convolutional recurrent graph autoencoder-based CDS offers an attack detection rate of 96 – 97.5%, which outperforms other machine learning and deep learning-based data-driven CDSs by 16 – 54% since it captures the recurrent and spatial aspects of the data without being trained on attack data.

This paper presents the human fall detection by convolutional neural network (CNN) classification and MobileNet algorithm. In order to reduce the number of parameter, we propose a vision-based fall detection model, that is called “Applied Depthwise separable-based CNN-MobileNet (ACM) algorithm”. This model is based on CNN, deptwise convolution and pointwise convolution of MobileNet algorithm. Experimental results show the accuracy of proposed ACM model about 97.68% and number of parameters of proposed ACM model is less than conventional CNN model.
