Image segmentation is an essential component in many different types of computer vision systems. Image segmentation is used in order to identify objects and boundaries within pictures. It is important to note that the success of recognition algorithms is heavily dependent on the quality of the picture segmentation, and there is yet no technique that can universally segment images. Boundary detection has a long history of being recognised as one of the most difficult challenges in the fields of image processing and pattern analysis, in particular, when it comes to applications in medical imaging. The clarity of the picture is being muddled by more information, which is the source of the problem's complexity. The creation of segmentation algorithms for medical pictures is an active field of study, and segmentation algorithms are meant to account for a variety of factors, including noise, intensity inhomogeneity, poor contrast between the lesion and the surrounding skin, and so on. There is currently no active contour model that combines the locally statistical property of being more noise-resistant, in which the intensities in the transformed domain have less overlapping in the statistics, and the locally image fitting property of extracting the local image information in order to be able to segment images with intensity inhomogeneity. This is because there is no such model. So the proposed work includes Ant colony optimization based double threshold segmentation in medical images. Performance of the proposed algorithm is more efficient, reliable and accurate than the existing algorithm. Performance parameters such as segmentation accuracy, error rate, and Dice co-efficient are used in order to conduct the evaluation of the proposed work. © 2022 IEEE.

This study adopted the reasonable person model (RPM) in the context of agritourism to identify tourists' preferences for features of agricultural landscapes;to examine the effects of agritourism landscape's fascination on subjective well-being and destination attachment, which in turn influence tourists' loyal behaviors;and to investigate the moderating effects of farm types. The quantitative and qualitative approaches were combined to obtain 1118 usable samples. The results validated the RPM by identifying the predictive power of landscape fascination, subjective well-being, and destination attachment on tourists' destination loyalty. Managerial implications for enhancing visitors' retentions in Taiwan were discussed. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions.

In this paper, we propose an Embedded Real-time Monocular SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) System for an autonomous indoor mobile robot. Autonomous mobile robots must be able to estimate and maintain the pose of the robot and the map of the environment at the same time. SLAM performs those tasks using one or more external sensors (e.g., LiDAR, Camera, and Inertial Measurement Unit). The previous SLAM system had problems with a sensor size, high power consumption, and high cost. Thus, it is hard to implement on a small indoor robot. We propose an Embedded (small size, low power consumption, and low cost) Real-time Monocular SLAM System which combines an ORB feature extraction-based SLAM (ORB-SLAM), a monocular camera, and a dynamically reconfigurable processor (DRP). This system realizes real-time (30 fps over) and low-power (less than 2 W) SLAM utilizing the hardware accelerating function of DRP. Do Larger-Scale Ecological Networks Imply Higher Efficiency in Biodiversity Conservation? Evidence from the Yangtze River Delta, China

Constructing ecological networks between protected areas is crucial for preventing further biodiversity loss. Considering the variations among protected areas, developing multi-level ecological networks can optimize resource allocation. However, the relationship between the different levels of ecological networks and their efficiency in biodiversity conservation remains unclear. In this study, we considered factors including the distribution of endangered species, the impact of climate change, and human activity to identify ecological sources at different levels and established multi-level ecological corridors. We then assessed the relationship between different levels of ecological networks and biodiversity conservation efficiency. The results showed that high-priority ecological corridors are primarily concentrated in the southwestern part of the Yangtze River Delta, gradually extending eastward, while ecological corridors in the northern region are of relatively lower priority. Significant differences were also observed in the conservation efficiency of ecological networks at different levels. Under various future climate change scenarios (Shared Socioeconomic Pathways 126, 245, 370, and 585), smaller-scale but higher-priority ecological networks (MEN1 and MEN2) exhibited higher conservation efficiencies, reaching 75.36% and 61.13%, respectively, while larger-scale ecological networks (MEN3 and MEN4) showed efficiencies below 50%. These results indicate that larger-scale ecological networks do not necessarily equate to higher efficiency in biodiversity conservation, underscoring the importance of assessing the actual contributions of ecological networks to biodiversity protection. © 2024, The Authors. In the digital transformation era, Metaverse offers a fusion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and web technologies to create immersive digital experiences. However, the evolution of the Metaverse is slowed down by the challenges of content creation, scalability, and dynamic user interaction. Our study investigates an integration of Mixture of Experts (MoE) models with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for mobile edge computing to revolutionize content creation and interaction in the Metaverse. Specifically, we harness an MoE model's ability to efficiently manage complex data and complex tasks by dynamically selecting the most relevant experts running various sub-models to enhance the capabilities of GAI. We then present a novel framework that improves video content generation quality and consistency, and demonstrate its application through case studies. Our findings underscore the efficacy of MoE and GAI integration to redefine virtual experiences by offering a scalable, efficient pathway to harvest the Metaverse's full potential. © 2024, CC BY.

Autonomous and intuitive displacement is a parameter to verify the potential of information for spatial orientation in a built environment. Being oriented implies not getting lost on the route linked to a task, both in known or unknown environments. This topic is a maximum measurement of a user's behavior in their displacement. First, some main concepts will be presented, proposing some indicators for users’observation in the built environment. After that, a case study will be presented, using the indicators that are proposed based on the task, routes, strategies, and user behavior for a data collection. As a result, this data was checked with the Visibility Index (VI) method.

The Impact of Urban Morphology on Thermal Environment Under Extreme Heat: A Case Study in Nanjing, China

The diverse urban morphology leads to different microclimates in urban areas. However, little is known about the relationship between different types of urban morphology in humid subtropical climate during extreme heat. Therefore, we selected six types of streets with three building heights and two street orientations in the Nanjing, China, and examined how they impact differently on thermal environment under extreme heat. Our results showed that: (1) the cooling effects of street orientation in NE-SW (Northeast to Southwest) was more effective than the street orientation in N-S (North to South) (3) Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) in the "Very hot"(PET above 41°C) level was consistently lower on N-S street orientation compared to NE-SW street orientation throughout the day, with the difference decreasing as building height increased. (4) The worst thermal comfort was indicated in the NE-SW street orientation with Low-rise buildings, where the proportion of "Very hot" level in 63%. Conversely, the lowest proportion is 42.7% for Middle-rise buildings on the N-S street orientation, indicating the best thermal comfort in this study. Our findings provide new insights for urban planners and policymakers in promoting healthy cities and environmentally friendly cities through rational urban morphology planning. © 2023, The Authors. Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) Services have significant potential in digital content creation. The distinctive abilities of AIGC, such as content generation based on minimal input, hold huge potential, especially when integrating with semantic communication (SemCom). In this paper, a novel comprehensive conceptual model for the integration of AIGC and SemCom is developed. Particularly, a content generation level is introduced on top of the semantic level that provides a clear outline of how AIGC and SemCom interact with each other to produce meaningful and effective content. Moreover, a novel framework that employs AIGC technology is proposed as an encoder and decoder for semantic information, considering the joint optimization of semantic extraction and evaluation metrics tailored to AIGC services. The framework can adapt to different types of content generated, the required quality and the semantic information utilized. By employing a Deep Q Network (DQN), a case study is presented that provides useful insights into the feasibility of the optimization problem and its convergence characteristics. © 2023, CC BY.

Genji-firefly has been one of the key symbols of rural environmental conservation. The species lives underwater as larvae, in the soil when they pupate, and emerges on the ground as adults. Because the habitat conditions of larvae and adults differ greatly, the habitat requirement of Genji-firefly must be clarified over a wide range from instream to the surrounding riparian environment. In this study, we developed a habitat suitability model for Genji-firefly by relating the number of individuals to local landscape features surveyed in a small river in an agricultural watershed. For habitat modelling, Random Forests, a well-known highly predictive machine learning method, was used to model species distributions and to extract quantitative information on their ecological characteristics. As a result, a good agreement was found between observed and modelled number of individuals, although some issues still remain for the test data. We were able to extract local landscape features that characterize the habitat suitability of adult firefly. In future, we plan to deepen our habitat suitability assessment by taking into account uncertainties such as noise originated from absent data.
