The present study aims to explore the usage of portable fire extinguisher's usability from the interaction with non-specialists in emergency context. Has been noticed an absence of Brazil's proper education regarding procedures for fires, evidencing the need for portable fire extinguishers to induce intuitive usage and to improve the usability by users. Were also explored ergonomic factors, such as effort to complete the task and user's perception of discomfort. In order to simulate the emergency context, a usability test was applied with addition stress stimuli. The study allows to conclude that the portable fire extinguisher evaluated present a low level of intuitive use induction, revealing the need to state better standards from Brazilian authorities towards the label and handles of this product. This paper presents the importance of evaluating ergonomic and intuitive factors related to products required on emergency contexts. This study conducted in Brazil is the starting point for other research that explore the theme and aim to improve these devices, assisting designers to take into account aspects of intuitive use and ergonomic principles during the configuration of industrial products. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The literature discusses about the coproduction of value, emphasizing the involvement of consumers in Product Development Processes (PDP). This concept is associated with the interaction of consumers in creating value for the PDP. Thus, this paper discusses the measurement of user experience as an important factor for the coproduction of value through mechanisms that measure the usability of products. Thus, the User Experience can be treated as a core competency in design management within organizations. This study was conducted through literature review of the principles of design and Management, User Centered design, User Experience and about the function of the design department market research through mechanisms of consumer involvement. Shows the correlation of these approaches and issues for further research aimed at Measuring the User Experience with results that can enable feedback into the process of developing new products or incremental and radical innovation. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

This article makes a brief foray into state-of-the-art in Virtual Reality technologies and into semiotic studies in the field of Human-Computer Interaction in order to invite the reader to think about human's current situation. From this perspective, we shall seek to raise new questions about the forms of communication and interaction mediated by digital technologies. These forms deal with the fact of fiction and non-fiction going hand-in-hand, taking shape in images which, and in virtual beings who, co-inhabit both our imagination and the scenarios which comprise the parallel worlds of virtual environments. This thinking is indispensable for us to understand, for example, the implications of these changes on children and young people development and how we conceive education in today's world. Therefore, this article is based on: 1) studies that led to the dissertation entitled Digital Self: exploring the "I" construction on the Internet, submitted to the Post graduate program in Cognitive Psychology at the Federal University of Pernambuco, 2) discussions kindled at the Laboratory of Interactional Analysis and Videography, which is linked to the Post graduate program in Cognitive Psychology, and 3) discussions and projects developed in partnership between the Center for Informatics, Department of design and Human Factors Researchers at Federal University of Pernambuco. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

This paper sets out the case for the importance of using virtual reality immersion for diagnostic analysis and rehabilitating people with disabilities. To do so, a review of the literature was undertaken by examining articles published between 2000 and 2012. The results show that browsing in virtual immersion environments simulates real-world situations, with the advantage that this enables there to be full control over the variables analyzed and consequently over the health aspects involved. Furthermore, when using multisensory channels, the human-task-system interface tools enable there to be simultaneous treatment of multiple morbidities, which characterizes there having been an important advance made in the functional independence of people with disabilities. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Advancing the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Next Generation Nuclear Power Plants requires enhancing our basic understanding of fuel and materials behavior under irradiation. The two most significant issues limiting the effectiveness and lifespan of the fuel are the loss of thermal conductivity of the fuel and the mechanical strength of both fuel and cladding. The core of a nuclear reactor presents an extremely harsh and challenging environment for both sensors and telemetry due to elevated temperatures and large fluxes of energetic and ionizing particles from radioactive decay processes. The majority of measurements are made in reactors using "radiation hardened" sensors and materials. A different approach has been pursued in this research that exploits high temperatures and materials that are robust with respect to ionizing radiation. This synergistically designed thermoacoustic sensor will be self-powered, wireless, and provide telemetry. The novel sensor will be able to provide reactor process information even if external electrical power and communication are unavailable. In addition, the form-factor for the sensor is identical to the existing fuel rods within reactors and contains no moving parts. Results from initial proof of concept experiments designed to characterize porosity, surface properties and monitor gas composition will be discussed.

By using artistic mutations, called Doodles, Google has been commemorating important events and personalities. This fun approach started with still images, evolved to increasingly complex interactions, and has resulted in games based on the configurations of its logo. Thus, the company which was born in the digital world has introduced a new interactive approach to its logo in cyberspace, thus offering new experiences to the user. This article sets out to present a comparative analysis of usability and playability of five interactive Doodles by applying the RITE (Rapid Interation Testing and Evaluation) approach so as to investigate ergonomic criteria of invitation, suitability immediate feedback and user control. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Stripes have long been a popular design element in clothing. It is a fact that striped clothing has great impact on customer's preference in fashion design field. The retailer stores usually sell striped clothing because the needs from consumers. Some well-known brands such as: MUJI, UNIQLO, NET, MOSCHINO, and Tommy Hilfiger, consistently supplying line clothing in the 2013 Spring Collections. However, we found out that the aesthetic feeling are actually depending on personals favorite and connected to the theory of Zebra Effect. In this research, we are investigating the influence of Helmholtz Illusion in dress patterns and fashion cognition between both consumers and subjects. Visual illusions have been widely applied in many areas of design. Some studies showed that human body is best revealed by horizontal, not vertical lines, and that the depth and curvature of the body are crucial for conveying its shape. After the reasons of different dimension present the effect of illusion, they identify that the depth and curvature of the body are crucial for conveying the shape. Nevertheless, this study exist few tools or methods to support reasoning about the influence of line fashion through interact experience. It is an experimental procedure for subjects to observe the four female shapes in two different line shirts, in order to undertake people's real considerations between their notion of stereotype and perceptions. Normally, we think that vertical lines would make people look taller, so wearing vertical stripes should cause the figure to look slimmer than when wearing horizontal stripes. On the other hand, horizontal lines usually give the feeling of sideward extension, resulting in the visual effect of a wider and heavier appearance. Under the same condition, the four differently shaped females in this study, tall, short, heavy, and thin, were asked to try on both vertical and horizontal striped clothing to compare the visual effects, based on certain formula and
