It is an urgent need to find an objective way to estimate the degree of fatigue of employees. In this study, we designed a monitoring and estimation system for the degree of fatigue. This paper explains a long-term pedaling experiment that we use it to explore the possibility to use only the time sequence data of head movement during pedaling to estimate the fatigue. While we show the possibility for this through experimental data, it is clear that we need to collect more data to establish an estimation method.

Puppet shadow is not only one of the oldest forms of performing, but also a very characteristic traditional folk performing art. Since the action skill is a family heirloom of puppet shadow troupes, they seldom teach outsiders so this issue is rarely discussed. The spatial and regional limitation makes the observation and learning of puppet-motion and action skill rather difficult. This study uses Flash CS4 to create the features and functions of puppets via inverse kinematics (IK) method. Using the concept of inverse kinematics constructs the movement of puppets and simulates the motion of puppets. On this platform, we construct the single-user-game-based digital learning system of puppet shadow. We design situational challenge competitions and interactive games to enhance the quality and pleasure of learning. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper propose a driving assistance scheme for a powered wheelchair with a force feedback function of its joystick. Generally, a powered wheelchair moves in a human coexistence environment such as a pedestrian way and it is important to move on these environments without a feeling of oppression to other people around it. Therefore, we propose a concept of a dynamic personal space which is a region surrounding a person who can feel comfortable psychologically to other person with a moving wheelchair in the pedestrian flows. A dynamic personal space is defined considering with a relative velocity and acceleration between the powered wheelchair and the pedestrians around it. Using this concept, we develop a driving assistance system using a force feedback of its joystick, which enables the powered wheelchair to move in a human coexistence environment without a feeling of oppression on other people. In this paper, we investigate spatial relationship with a powered wheelchair experimentally and define a dynamic personal space using these results. For verifying its effectiveness, the performance of our system is verified by experiments using our prototype.

This paper presents the application of a cooperative evaluation, technical evaluation performed ergonomic usability with users in the Learning Management Systens (LMS) used at the Instituto Federal de Pernambuco (IFPE). The data collected in the assessments were analyzed with users from Nielsen usability heuristics. The results showed that the environment has evaluated a large number of usability problems. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Recent researches propose the integration of performance analysis to early stages of the design process in order to obtain the building's best final performance (Kolarevric;Malkawi, 2005;Holzer, 2010;Oxman, 2007). Thus, choosing the appropriate set of solutions and digital tools to develop this task is of high complexity and responsibility. The main objective of this paper is to identify and characterize the evaluation of different performances in social housing design stage, through the development of a model containing appropriate abstractions, for the representation of valid and accurate analytical data as inputs and outputs to specific simulations. This study was developed as field study involving experts in the area of thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, lighting comfort, materials conservation, water conservation and accessibility. The results show strengths and difficulties for integrating performance analysis focusing the information modelling and interoperability between computational simulations. A sequence for performing simulations considering inter-influences is proposed. This paper contributes with the characterization of the ideal information model to be use in different simulation tools, during the design stage of social housing solutions;promoting quality improvement related to social housing and the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling). With changing times, the furniture industry in Taiwan has gradually transformed into a design service industry that integrates set design and manufacturing, and its design development has become increasingly intensive and closely linked, enabling many design information to emerge and accumulate as a result of the process. Henceforth, it is up to businesses to utilize knowledge management measures for effective integration. However, the backbone of the industry is product development process management application, and a majority of Taiwan's current furniture design industry is unable to advance alongside the industry's transformation trend. In terms of operations, many mechanism problems, such as knowledge management, still await resolution. Therefore, this research hoped to determine developmental strategies for industrial application of knowledge management and success factors for the industry's development, and to offer a reference to furniture developers with operation management and transformation strategies. Through the supplementing in-depth interviews with multiple case studies, the researcher first explored Taiwan's furniture developers' current use of and thoughts on knowledge management in the process of product development. Thereafter, data collected from the interviews and studies were analyzed, and based on knowledge management concepts proposed by scholars, the results were summarized according to four major influencing dimensions, namely business organization, product development process, information technology and cultural system. Using cross-analysis and data generalization, the following conclusions were made regarding knowledge management strategies in the development of related industries in furniture design: (1) Establish a knowledge management model using the development process of the industry as the core, and tailor the model according to the needs of the industry;(2) A complete plan is needed to enable those in charge to have awareness and

Background: The literature indicates that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects cardiac autonomic control. In this study, we conducted a literature review in order to investigate the heart rate variability (HRV) in COPD subjects. Methods: A search was performed in Medline database, using the link between the keywords: "autonomic nervous system", "cardiovascular system", "COPD" and "heart rate variability". Results: The search resulted in a total of 40 references. Amongst these references, the first exclusion resulted in the barring of 29 titles and abstracts, which were not clearly related to the purpose of review. This resulted in a total of 11 articles that were then read and utilized in the review. The selected studies indicated that there is significant reduction of HRV in patients with COPD, characterized by reduction of indices that assess parasympathetic activity in addition to dealing with the global autonomic modulation. We also established that supervised exercise can reduce these harmful effects in COPD patients. Also, it was reported that the use of non-invasive ventilation in these patients may contribute to the improvement of respiratory symptoms, with no impairing, and may even induce positive responses in cardiac autonomic regulation. Conclusion: The studies indicate a need for further investigations to guide future therapies to improve the treatment of cardiovascular system in the respiratory diseases. © 2014 Roque et al.;licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

He served as senior advisor for innovation in the White House where he spearheaded government innovation initiatives that infused lean startup and agile methods as well as design thinking into the public sector. In this role Farmer co‐founded and directed the Presidential Innovation Fellows program. Earlier in his career he worked in healthcare and finance creating and building new business units from the ground up. Farmer also played professional baseball as a shortstop in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves minor league systems. He holds an MBA with honors from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and an AB with honors from Harvard University. Currently an entrepreneur in residence at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers. Formerly he was the deputy chief technology officer for the United States at the White House. Panchadsaram helped shape how an $80 billion budget can be used by federal agencies to deliver on their missions in a more effective design‐centric and data‐driven way. In 2014 Time magazine featured him on its cover as part of the crisis response team tasked with rescuing the rollout of Healthcare.gov. In response to that experience he helped found the US Digital Service—a “startup” within the White House that recruits the country's top technical talent to work on the government's most critical citizen‐facing services. Panchadsaram is an active designer and coder and held various product roles at Microsoft and ***.
