Who, after all, still speaks of "society" other than the citizens of Empire, who have come or ratherhuddledtogether against the self-evidence of Empire's final implosion, against the ontological obviousness of civil war?The summer and fall of 1969 in Italy's northern industrial cities witnessed intense confrontations between capital and labor, most exemplarily at the Fiat factory in Mirafiori on the outskirts of Turin.1These struggles were novel insofar as they took place largely outside the direction of the unions and the classical institutions of the workers' movement. Moreover, they focused their antagonistic force on severing the link between demands for higher wages and levels of productivity—a correlation enforced by the unions. This recast the wage as an "independent variable," no longer understood as the price of labor-power but as what came to be called, within the movement, apoliticalprice to be extracted from capital in exchange for a provisional social stability. Separating wages from productivity represented a decisive break with the social pact drawn up in Italy between labor and capital after World War II, a pact that made the structurally antagonistic forces of labor and capital into partners sharing the fruits of the so-called postwar "economic miracle." De-linking wages from productivity transformed the wage from an objective mediation between capital and labor into an index of worker "needs" that would be unilaterally asserted by the class itself. This made the wage into the lever of destabilization, and wage demands into an affirmation of "worker power [potere operaio]."The Italian state responded to this worker assault by depressing the value of wages through monetary policy (artificially induced inflation) and by expanding the class struggle onto the urban terrain and into the sphere of social reproduction. It did so by unilaterally raising the costs of public housing, transportation, and utilities. The urban proletariat countered in turn with

This paper presents a fully complex-valued functional link network (CFLN). The CFLN is a single-layered neural network, which introduces nonlinearity in the input layer using nonlinear functions of the original input variables. In this study, we consider multivariate polynomials as the nonlinear functions. Unlike multilayer neural networks, the CFLN is free from local minima problem, and it offers very fast learning in parameters because of its linear structure. In the complex domain, polynomial based CFLN has an additional advantage of not requiring activation functions, which is a major concern in the complex-valued neural networks. However, it is important to select a smaller subset of polynomial terms (monomials) for faster and better performance, since the number of all possible monomials may be quite large. In this paper, we use the orthogonal least squares method in a constructive fashion (starting from lower degree to higher) for the selection of a parsimonious subset of monomials. Simulation results demonstrate that computing CFLN in purely complex domain is advantageous than in double-dimensional real domain, in terms of number of connection parameters, faster design, and possibly generalization performance. Moreover, our proposed CFLN compares favorably with several other multilayer networks in the complex domain.

It has been 50 years since Bionics were first being studied and developed. However, the findings and scholars in Bionics were rather deficient comparing with its developing history, and that made Bionics unable to become a leading subject among all the other disciplines, let alone the achievements of Bionic applications to designing. Under the principle of interdisciplinary research, this study has reviewed the concepts and knowledge system of Bionic design, and further by the given examples of the Biology of crabs, this study has also analyzed a hands-on practice in applying the Biological knowledge to designing. The logic of Bionic design, which is also the ultimate expectation of this study - is to reload and transform the elements of Biology and technology/material after the comprehension of Biological knowledge. To sum up, this study aims to inference the education approaches of Bionic design, and to construct and analyze the methodology of Bionic design by the achievements of former approaches. Aimed at the third year university students in Taiwan, the hands-on practice revealed the following effects: 1. the designers usually have a good sense on connecting the shape and functions of organism to the product design, and result in a visual completeness. 2. Knowledge of different organisms indeed enriches education, thought and sense, and opens up a new route of designing. 3. Interdisciplinary study is necessary for breaking the closed subjects, and for accepting another new knowledge to widen the view. I believe this worth a better development by more designers and researchers in the future. © 2010 IEEE.

Edge detection plays a significant role in assessing the capability level of the robot's vision. Accurate edge detection leads to better vision. The work in this paper was conducted by the inspiration of the biological concept of mammalian vision. That is, the retina enriches the edges in the view before passing it to the visual cortex in the brain for further processes. Although many works have been done to investigate surrounding this issue, these works are still limited in compare with that exists in retina. In this study, we investigated the main role of horizontal cells for the retina's network toward building a retina-like robot's vision technique. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed algorithm to provide accurate edges in real-time with less noise. © 2010 TSI Press.

The aspartic protease cathepsin E has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells under physiological conditions. Therefore, cathepsin E-activity-enhancing peptides functioning in the physiological pH range are valuable potential cancer therapeutic candidates. Here, we have used a general in vitro selection method (evolutionary rapid panning analysis system (eRAPANSY)), based on inverse substrate-function link (SF-link) selection to successfully identify cathepsin E-activity-enhancing peptide aptamers at neutral pH. A successive enrichment of peptide activators was attained in the course of selection. One such peptide activated cathepsin E up to 260, had a high affinity (KD;300nM), and had physiological activity as demonstrated by its apoptosis-inducing reaction in cancerous cells. This method is expected to be widely applicable for the identification of protease-activity-enhancing peptide aptamers. Copyright © 2011 Madhu Biyani et al.

The primary purpose of graphic map design was to determine the factors for each types of map that can meet the demand of the tourists who are different in their destination. The graphic map factors enable us to know the target group and type of map they used that provides the accurate information corresponding to their actual need. Methodologically, the simulation viewing questionnaires were used to examine the opinion and need of the tourists whose interest was different with the type of map they used. In case study, the sample included the foreign tourists in Bangkok territory. This paper examined the graphic map design factors that meet the tourist's need. The results are expected to be used as useful guidelines for map design that satisfies the tourists in context of Thai social and cultural environment that can be recognized at international level. It's not only useful to those tourists, but also to general people.

Window displays, as a part of selling strategies, not only convey the type and positioning of mechanize, but also the promotional strategies and corporate images. The study uses window displays for clothing to examine patterns, selling strategies, merchandize types, and target groups. It investigates the effects of design elements on the customers’ perceptual responding to configurations. The theoretical framework bases on marketing concepts, visual perception principles, Gestalt psychology, and design's principle and elements. Sixty undergraduates, ages 18-23, participated as research subjects. Results derive a design guideline for window displays towards the designated type of intended perception for the particular group.

Recently, robotic surgical support systems are in clinical use for minimally invasive surgery. We have developed a multi-DOF robotic forceps manipulator using a novel omnidirectional bending mechanism, and for the developed robotic forceps manipulator, we proposed a passivity based bilateral control that enables motion scaling in both position tracking and force tracking, and guarantees the stability of the teleoperation system in the presence of constant time delay, so far. In this paper, the passivity based bilateral control is improved so as to guarantee the stability of the teleoperation system not only in the presence of the constant time delay but also in the presence of the time varying delay. However, the proposed bilateral control law is applicable only to the one DOF bending motion of the robotic forceps. Therefore, using the change of coordinates, the proposed bilateral control scheme is extended so that it may become applicable to the omnidirectional bending motion of the robotic forceps. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, experimental works were carried out for the developed robotic forceps. © 2010 IEEE.

Mockup is a scale or full-sized model that used for demonstrating and evaluating the functionality of a design. It is only in-plemented in a large project that having similar room patterns to reduce the risk of poor design. This research is to identify the corelationship between the number of rooms (or the project size) and the mockup investment cost to find the decision-making point. The research methodology is to build the perspective picture of VIP in-patient rooms as the Stimuli approach and build the same realistic full-sized rooms as the mockup then applying the systematic research implication to learn and synthesize the results to investigate the functionalities, environmental perceptions and cost-benefits ratio in order to evaluate the corelationship between the cost effectiveness and the estimated optimum number of rooms. In addition, data collection from the same hospital staffs, patients, and other service receivers will be conducted by questionnaire survey and close observation. The data will be complied vis-à-vis the results from mockup and stimuli methods to establish the decision-making baseline.

This research is about the analysis and design of variable-wheelbase bike. Aiming to the existing folding bike of all kinds, we collect patent communiqué and record information to classify the documents and give analysis of its merit and defect. We find the way of innovative design from the generalizing information. Finally, we choose multiple-linkage mechanism system to change the positions of seat, handle bar and rear wheel, which can also alter the riding position and control ability of user. In order to lower the cost, we reduce the numbers of linkages. This linkages system must be one freedom . Therefore, this research is proceeding the mechanical sustainable synthesizing with this design iuput, and develops a multiple-linkages mechanism system with 8 bares, 10 joints with one freedom to be the construction of bike frame. Then, we synthesizing the dimensions of bike frame by SolidWorks,and stimulating sporting motion and interference by the 3D CAD model, later, evaluate whether the 3D dummy meets the requirements or not. It will also make the CAE to proceed the stress analysis of the bike frame construction with ANSYS11. 0 to make sure the strength and security. Finally, may be we would make a prototype.
