作者: SARCHIN, T.H. The Author is head of the Technical Support Section Ship Concept Design Division of Naval Ship Engineering Center. His group is responsible for conducting special studies relative to design problems and participating in the Ship Systems Command's RDT&E program in the area of ship hydrodynamics. His educational background includes a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Washington and graduate study at Catholic University and the University of Maryland. He has over 28 years of continuous experience in the Bureau of Ships and is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers before whom he recently presented a paper on “The Stability of Naval Ships.” He is also a charter member of the ASE and is a registered Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia.

His graduate work has included instruction in Naval Construction and Marine Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology leading to a Master of Science degree in 1944 and the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1964. As an Engineering Duty Officer he has served in various Naval commands including the Mare Island Naval Shipyard the New York Naval Shipyard and as Fleet and Force Maintenance Officer on the staffs of Commander in Chief and Commander Service Force U.S. Pacific Fleet. Within the Bureau of Ships his duties have included Director of the Facilities Division Head of the Hull Design Branch Director of the Ship Design Division and most recently Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Ships for Design Shipbuilding and Fleet Maintenance. He is a member of Sigma Xi SNAME and is currently serving as a member of the ASNE council. In October 1965 he was designated by the Secretary of the Navy as Project Manager Fast Deployment Logistic Ship Project.

作者: COX, AE Mr. A. E. Cox has twenty-eight years of technical and technical management experience in the shipbuilding industry. Since joining Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in 1941 upon graduation from College he has participated in the design of all aircraft carriers built at NNS&DDCo starting with the Essex Class (CV-9) and progressing through the baby flat top LONG ISLAND the Midway Class (CVB-41) the Forrestal Class (CVA-59) the ENTERPRISE (CVA(N)65) the AMERICA (CVA-66) and the KENNEDY (CVA-67). He served as an officer in the U. S. Naval Reserves during World War II. His primary assignment was as a ship superintendent in new construction. With this and other experience as his credentials earlier this year he was promoted to senior program Manager responsible for the coordination of the activities of all of the program Managers. He is registered professional engineer in the State of Virginia. He holds a bachelors degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and is a graduate of the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology. He completed the Management Course at the Graduate School of Industrial Administration Carnegie Tech. and has taken graduate courses at George Washington University University of Michigan and the University of Virginia.

As an Engineering Duty Officer he has served in various Naval commands which include: the Mare Island and New York Naval Shipyards Chief Engineer of the USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CVA 41) during the Korean War Fleet and Force Maintenance Officer on the staff of Commander in Chief and Commander Service Force U. S. Pacific Fleet. Within the Naval Ship Systems Command formerly the Bureau of Ships his duties have included: Director of the Ship Design Division Head of the Hull Design Branch Director of the Ship Design Division and Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Ships for Design Shipbuilding and Fleet Maintenance. His subsequent positions were as Project Manager Fast Deployment Logistic Ship Project from October 1965 to July 1967 and as Deputy Chief of Naval Material for Logistic Support from August 1967. He assumed his present command of Naval Ships Systems Command in July 1969 almost a year prior to taking the helm as President of ASNE. He is also a member of Sigma Xi and SNAME.

作者: NACHTSHEIM, JOHN J. MIEHE, F.W. WILSON, COMMANDER T. B. Mr. John J. Nachtsheim is Chief Naval Architect of the Hull Design Branch of the Bureau of Ships. Prior to this position he held the position of Deputy Chief Design Engineer at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and a Bachelor of Law degree from the George Washington University Law School. He was civilian project coordinator for the Hull Design Branch for the design of USS Enterprise CVA(N)65 and has been engaged in hull design for the Navy since 1948. Commander Frederick W. Miehe Jr. U. S. Navy is a student in the Navy Graduate Financial Management Program at The George Washington University. Prior to entering this program he was project officer for major combatant ships in the Machinery Design Branch Bureau of Ships. Earlier duty assignments include shipyards staff and shipboard engineering as well as a brief interlude flying blimps. He received the Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Naval Academy in 1943 and the Degree of Naval Engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949. Lieut. Commander Thomas B. Wilson Jr. U. S. Navy is project officer for aircraft carriers in the Hull Design Branch Bureau of Ships. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Naval Academy in 1948 and his Master of Science degree at Webb Institute of Naval Architecture in 1953. He has been concerned with the construction conversion repairing docking and operation of aircraft carriers since 1951.
