This work aims to identify the impact of third harmonic circulating current injection (THCCI) in a Cascaded H-bridge converter in delta configuration (Delta-CHB) for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) application. The analyses consist of evaluating the impact of THCCI on the silicon area of semiconductor devices, based on a typical IGBT/Diode model to determine the nominal current of the devices for a given maximum junction temperature. A coefficient of determination higher than 89% was obtained for all modeled variables. The results showed an increase of 42.4% in the active area of the IGBT and 42.2% in the active area of the diode when the peak cluster current increased by 62%. © 2023 IEEE.

Fixed-wing aerial vehicles are equipped with functional-ities such as ILS (instrument landing system), PAR (precision approach radar) and, DGPS (differential global positioning system), enabling fully automated landings. How-ever, these systems impose significant costs on airport op-erations due to high installation and maintenance requirements. Moreover, since these navigation parameters come from ground or satellite signals, they are vulnerable to in-terference. A more cost-effective and independent alternative for guiding landing is a vision-based system that de-tects the runway and aligns the aircraft, reducing the pi-lot's cognitive load. This paper proposes a novel frame-work that addresses three key challenges in developing au-tonomous vision-based landing systems. Firstly, to over-come the lack of aerial front-view video data, we created high-quality videos simulating landing approaches through the generator code available in the LARD (landing approach runway detection dataset) repository. Secondly, in contrast to former studies focusing on object detection for finding the runway, we chose the state-of-the-art model Lo-RAT to track runways within bounding boxes in each video frame. Thirdly, to align the aircraft with the designated landing runway, we extract runway keypoints from the re-sulting LoRAT frames and estimate the camera relative pose via the Perspective-n-Point algorithm. Our experimental re-sults over a dataset of generated videos and original images from the LARD dataset consistently demonstrate the proposed framework's highly accurate tracking and alignment capabilities. The electrification of offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs), using offshore wind turbines, is now a reality, aimed at minimizing carbon emissions. In this scenario, the utilization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) improves both efficiency and power quality. As this integration comes with a high CAPEX, industries demand exploring BESS for multiple ancillary services on OOGPs. Thus, this paper proposes an alternative approach to energizing a power transformer (PT) using the BESS power conversion system (PCS) on the platform, aiming to minimize inrush currents. This avoids the necessity for additional bulky devices, converters, or dc voltage sources specifically designated for this purpose. The strategy consists of manipulating residual core flux using BESS PCS followed by a controlled switching, which reduces inrush currents during PT energization. The results show effective reduction of the inrush current from 2.31 pu to 0.16 pu for the presented case study. © 2024 IEEE.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in various applications, from inspection and surveillance to transportation and delivery. Navigating UAVs in complex 3D environments is a challenging task that requires robust and efficient decision-making algorithms. This paper presents a novel approach to UAV navigation in 3D environments using a Curriculum-based Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) approach. The proposed method utilizes a deep neural network to model the UAV's decision-making process and to learn a mapping from the state space to the action space. The learning process is guided by a reinforcement signal that reflects the performance of the UAV in terms of reaching its target while avoiding obstacles and with energy efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed method has a positive trade off when compared to the baseline algorithm. The proposed method was able to perform well in environments with a state space size of 22 millions, allowing the usage in big environments or in maps with high resolution. The results demonstrate the potential of DRL for enabling UAVs to operate effectively in complex environments. © 2023 IEEE.

The substantial memory window (MW) of 1.8 V is achieved by utilizing stacked two nanosheet (NS) gate-all-around (GAA) Ge0.95 Si0.05 ferroelectric field-effect transistors (FeFETs), employing a low write voltage of 2 V. The channel phosphorus concentration 1E18 cm-3 is used to erase the absence of interfacial layer (IL) can reduce the operation voltage. An isotropic wet etching process is employed for channel release. The stacked two NSs offer the advantages of reducing cell-to-cell variation and doubling the read current. Additionally, the stability of data storage is demonstrated with the data retention of >1E4 s, linearly extrapolated to a span of 10 years, and exhibiting high endurance >1E11 cycles. The thermal budget is as low as 400 °C. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This article presents the design of a power optimizer, composed of five PV modules and five non-isolated Boost DC-DC converters connected in series, in order to obtain the necessary voltage for the DC bus of the central inverter. In the CC-AC stage, three topologies are compared: half-bridge, full-bridge and NPC, in order to analyze the leakage current levels. In addition, with the objective of obtaining greater energy processing, the perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm was implemented in each optimizer, being then evaluated, considering ideal conditions and with partial shading (irradiance variation). © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, new functionalities are presented for the Portable System for Automatic Acquire of electrical Signals for Supercapacitor Characterization (SAAESSC) [1]. These supercapacitors can be used in low consumption electro-electronic devices, energy harvesting and Internet of Things (IoT) applications [2] [3] [4]. In addition to self-discharge test of supercapacitors, functions for testing galvanostatic charge and discharge cycling, automatic extraction of electrical parameters, supercapacitors circuit models and definition of test methodology were implemented. To validate the SAAESSC, it is used two supercapacitors to obtain measurements with both SAAESSC and VMP3 Multichannel Potentiostat from BioLogic [5]. Those measurements were compared, showing a mean percentage error of 0,23%. © 2023 IEEE.

Failures in Current Transformers (CTs) can have a significant financial impact on utilities, causing revenue loss, service interruptions, and even damage to nearby equipment. To minimize the effects of CT degradation on the electrical system, predictive techniques and continuous monitoring are essential. One such tool that can aid in the supervision and diagnosis of equipment in service is the loss tangent. This parameter is directly related to the aging and degradation of electrical insulation, making it a useful indicator of possible failures in CTs. Therefore, this work aims to perform computer simulations using the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the effect of oil and paper degradation on the loss tangent values of a 230 kV current transformer. To achieve this, the COMSOL Multiphysics® software was used to verify the loss tangent as a function of the conductivity of parameters correlated to the CT dielectric. The results of the simulations show that the degradation of oil and paper substantially increases the value of the loss tangent. Additionally, it was found that the simultaneous or individual degradation of oil and paper have different effects on the loss tangent values obtained. The findings of this study demonstrate the usefulness of loss tangent as a tool for the diagnosis and supervision of electrical equipment in service. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

This work addresses the problem of adaptive control of Euler-Lagrange systems considering unknown parameters without the hypothesis that the persistence of excitation (PE) condition holds. A systematic framework to obtain linear regression equations in accordance with the dynamic regressor extension and mixing (DREM) technique is proposed involving the notion of the Euler-Lagrange first integral. Then, we develop a novel robust nonlinear adaptive H∞ controller capable of ensuring both convergence of the estimated unknown parameters and trajectory tracking in finite-time under a more relaxed condition than the PE assumption. The effectiveness of the proposed robust nonlinear adaptive H∞ controller is corroborated through numerical experiments with a simplified CRS-A465 robot manipulator. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the ability to perform various maritime activities flexibly and reduce human life risks, Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs) are increasingly used in most offshore applications. The demand for more complex missions has increased the capabilities of ROVs in their operations. Because it is a robust and rigid system, this type of robot may not be effective in certain missions where monitoring in narrow and difficult-to-access places is required. The idea is to create a more flexible and compact three-degrees-of-freedom robot. This robot can help the offshore industry, marine biologists, and researchers in marine life investigation. The reason is that the prototype is more similar to a fish, which would avoid scaring the other specimens, thus not harming the environment. Therefore, this research project intends to develop a low-cost underwater robot modeling applied to an embedded system capable of monitoring information on the seafloor. The results are still preliminary, but they already indicate the possibility of inserting the system in a test environment closer to the real one. ©2023 IEEE.
